I just got back from China and missed the last Community day. Even with a VPN Pokemon go won't let you do pretty much anything. There are no spawns, stops, or gyms. Walking doesn't count toward your eggs or candy. You can give gifts and open gifts, but there's no stops so that ends quick. You can claim field research rewards and get stamps... But again, without stops, that dries up after 3 days. You cannot catch your Pokemon from field research. You can go to the catch screen, but it just kicks you back to the map if you hit the Pokemon with a ball. For reference, I was in Beijing and Xi'an and the surrounding areas.

You can name a Butterfree "Butterfree" in Go but anything else can't be called Butterfree or Butterfly. Luckily you can name anyone you like the much more polite name of Bummerfree. It seems odd that Go doesn't censor Boner. It hasn't been censored in any of the games (I think it is theorised it is to do with the move Bone Rush?) but since it introduced name censorship (about two milliseconds after trading was introduced) Go has seemed more strict, certainly more arbitrary, and doesn't give any fucks about existing Pokemon names in its censorship rules.

I, too, missed the last one but Chikorita is meh anyway and a friend will just trade me a shiny. The issue with asking a friend is having them have a spare device and having to mess around with it when they’re doing their own. I can always trade a shiny, but I can’t rack up 500+ candy without dedicated playing.

Because Candela is the best, and Blue Person is so bland and uninteresting I can't even remember their name. I think if you had a chance to get to know your potential leader and their dialogue style before picking a team randomly, the team distribution would be like 45% Valor, 45% Instinct, 10% Mystic. Instead it feels like those last two are swapped. Poor Spark.

So I got taught ~*One Weird Trick*~ while out raiding yesterday, that is mildly interesting. Basically, there is a way to skip all the animations when trying to catch a pokemon. When you are on the catch screen, hold your thumb down on the pokeball menu and slide it towards the middle of the screen, and keep it held there. Now use your other hand to throw the ball. When it hits the pokemon, release your thumb. This will pull up the ball menu. Now exit the menu, and you will be able to see the "run" icon visible, which normally is gone during the catch animation. Click it to return to the map. When you click on the pokemon again, if it was caught or ran you will just get an error notification and it will disappear from the map. If it wasn't caught you can just try again. It saves like 5-10 seconds per pokemon so its not a huge deal, but if you are in an area with a ton of spawns it can add up to a good amount of time saved, especially on community days.

However it's definitely worth knowing about if you want to quickly hoover up a bunch of pokes and have time to appraise / bin them later.
