So basically the Allies strike a bargain with the elder gods in every timeline - it's just that this time they did it in Chungking instead of Eniwetok.

Of all the bodges in this game, I think I like Chungking the least. It wouldn't be so bad if the terrain there was a bit more forgiving, but as it is it's very much a "We've put this impossible roadblock in place so we don't have to come up with real mechanics to keep the Japanese army tied down in China" situation.

Oh, and they've decided to hold on there until the end of days. Sounds like a modernized Valhalla. Endless supplies of the same food and drink and the dead warriors being brought back to life each morning to fight, get maimed and die again. And my crazy ancestors thought this sounded like a good thing.

I ran some cruisers up towards Truk, and they run into a major US force! We come off ahead, just! Battleships can take a pounding! We spread the pain today. Well, that was an unexpected battle! Some nice sinking reports there. My own ships were lucky they were right next to a base!

Yeah, take the sinking report for the Miami with a grain of salt. A single torpedo hits and a few shells shouldn't be enough put down a Cleveland-class unless you're very lucky indeed. Though there is a likelihood for the old "the front fell off" to have happened there. The Marblehead OTOH is an old Omaha-class scout cruiser, so two Long Lance hits should be a pretty much guaranteed death sentence.

For all intents and purposes, that's just a very late-war destroyer turret mounted on the ship (2 per side, with an additional 2 above the fore/aft main guns), and acted as such in all regards. And yeah, the Cleveland-class as a whole is a pretty good representation of just how silly the light/heavy cruiser divide being based on gun caliber is, given it displaces far more than any supposed heavy cruiser fielded by the US before the Baltimore-class. Said heavy displacement being in part due to having more armor than those earlier ones as well (though oddball one-shot USS Wichita, direct predecessor the the Baltimore-class, has slightly more), as well as the additional turret of course.

The American subs continue to make their presence felt. Nothing but normal bombardment and one plane blown up n Burma that I lost the screenshot for. I don't even have anything interesting to say – I'm pulling most to the troops out of Chungking to see if they will attack me there. I do find these guys at Truk, I'm hoping they can clear the allied ships and let me get supplies in.

24 September 1944 More small Japanese warships succumb to air attack in the Philippines: the escort (ex-minelayer) Yaeyama, the torpedo boat Hayabusa, and the seaplane tender Akitsushima. U-739 sinks the Soviet minesweeper T-120 with a homing torpedo in the Kara Sea. 25 September 1944 RAF aircraft sink the German minesweeper M-471 with rockets in Den Helder.

So any chnace of getting an air raid on the Allied BB's while they're out on thier own or they disengaging full speed? Congrats on the ship battle! You actually survived an engagement with the raiders for no major losses!

Grey, can you check to see if some of the lucky ship subs that haven't shown up in years are actually alive and operational, or sunk somewhere? These have all, apparently, been unseen in three or more years according to the Lucky Ships list. I am referring to my own SS Porpoise, SS Salmon, claimed by Leperflesh, SS Skipjack belonging to A White Guy, SS Narwhal belonging to Yorkshire Tea, and SS Wahoo belonging to LeadSled. Hopefully the crews of these subs are just sitting out the war on a tropical beach somewhere drinking fruity beverages. Also, I would have voted for invading Russia in the poll had it been an option, instead of charnel house.

Those are B-25Ds, which belong to the Chinese aircraft pool. Chungking has a bunch of Chinese bomber squadrons that will eventually upgrade to lend-lease B-25Ds. The AI can pretty much pull from replacement pools at will so long as there's some supply. TL;DR lend lease magic got them there.

Of course, the American battleships come back today. We give a good showing though! Burn Baby Burn. It's a Chungking inferno! The number of fires increases. The Kido Butai finds some trouble on the way home. My return strike is decisive. That's a more interesting day! No confirmed kills, but a 300 point score jump – their air wings are gone, so I plan on finishing them off tomorrow! 26,000 fires still burn at Chungking.

Why are the American planes so bad in combat all of a sudden? Are their pilots low experience, or are we using some settings that give an advantage? It feels like about a month ago something decisive shifted and they can't get kills any more.
