Ginger Snaps is another good movie to watch with people who have no idea about it. The first time I saw it I caught it on TV and thought it was some teen drama. Also there are hardly any jack off instructions in it.

After watching Despicable Me 3 and Minions, I appreciate the Minion's more as a collective character, because the fact that they are not specifically loyal to Gru makes them more interesting. They are loyal to the strongest villain, specifically, and have been doing their thing for millenia, Gru was just the first Villain who not only survived, but who was loyal to them to the same extent they were loyal to him. However, if Gru were to be taken out by a stronger villain, they would probably jump ship to him. Gru just consistently wins. It has an interesting twist on them in DM3 with their spat with Gru over him quitting villainy, because without a villain to follow they lose purpose and becomes listless and depressed, and as it is they are feeling underutilised and frustrated without something to steal or blow up. Their decision to go with Dru at the end as a result makes perfect sense - he can give them the lifestyle and jobs that they require to function, because he is all in on villainy. It also means that with DM4 in planning stages that that one could have a neat conflict if Dru reappears and the Minions end up fighting Gru. I also like Gru's mindset as a hero who uses underhanded tactics to win, he is still a petty rear end in a top hat, he just is also fiercely protective of his family, and being a hero pays the bills, while also allowing him to indulge his urge for fun on the job via intricate gadgets. He also never gets tempted off the hero's path once set on it, he claims to be, but he really cares about his girls more. Before, he'd have done crimes, gone to jail, broken out of jail and kept going like that. However he has daughters to take care of, so he cannot allow potential setbacks like that, and Hero work is more stable. Also the idea that Gru meets the minions halfway is a cute one, like when he tries to illustrate his point by speaking it in Minion: quote:Gru: Lisa me Lipo! Pomo doro la Cumquit! Also Scarlett Overkill and Balthazar Bratt are really fun characters, and the Rocket Dress and 80s toy gadgets respectively are really inventive, especially the Bratt Pack. Professor Flux and the Criminal Family were really cute gags too. Finally I like the Queen in Minions, she's funny. Just like her attitude. "You do not steal a lady's crown! It's impolite!" *Elbow drops Bob the Minion*

A villain turned hero who still uses villainous methods because he's good at it is a fun idea. The Venture Bros plays with that on occasion.

I also like how meaty the effects are. In Minions, when Kevin grows to immense size bursting out of Scarlett's castle, it doesn't just blow out. You see the walls start to crack and the windows totally blowing out until eventually the whole structure gives way. Similarly in the first movie when Gru shrinks the moon, it is obvious that the ray is going to immense effort, having to constantly recalculate itself due to the sheer amount of stuff that it's forcing, so the moon kind of shrinks in stages, crushing down inch by inch then foot by foot then mile by mile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMTfWRo0VCI It's such a satisfying effect.

I went into it with low expectations, and while the scatalogical humour was unnecessary and the language occasionally careless (like bandying about the term Trailer Trash, which offended a few of my friends for personal reasons) the Woody Woodpecker movie from last year is actually fairly inventive. It's a more interesting take on Man vs Nature than most kids' movies, because Woody and the lawyer who is trying to build a house on his land are equally unwilling to listen to any sort of reason, and by the middle of the film it's the lawyer who takes the first step finding common ground after failing to resist Woody's antics. In fact the property actually gets completed because the lawyer ends up literally bribing Woody with cookies to allow him to build uninterrupted in a sort of childish protection racket. Also Woody's relationship with the son of the lawyer is fairly interesting because he starts out doing most of the work, he defends his own home and also helps the kid out with his problems because he just likes him. And the kid gives him free food, it's a largely selfish thing on Woody's part initially. It's not a good movie, a lot of the jokes don't work, mostly the toilet humour, and it's still a little generic at times, but overall it's at least interesting. Also the poachers are amusing because they are unexpectedly tech savvy, like looking up Woody's species on wikipedia after their first encounter, and hosting an auction over video conferencing.

The argument about Dusk till Dawn not being advertised as a Vampire movie might be a Mandela effect kinda deal. Like how some people SWEAR Demolition Man talks about Taco bell and others say it's Pizza Hut and that's because we don't have Taco Bell here in England, it was a localisation deal. Saying this because I was trying to convince my Mum and Auntie who are huge weirdo Vampire freaks to rent it when it came to video. They had posters up for it and everything, but nothing said "Vampires" and they were going to leave it until I pointed out Harvey Keitel was holding the shotgun like a cross... Even then they almost turned the film off just before they got to the Titty Twister. And the only reason *I* knew it was a vampire film was because I was studying printing and design at college and I watched a documentary about Hollywood poster makers it and the dude was making a Dusk till Dawn poster and they showed a clip of the vampires.

When I first watched a TV broadcast of Demolition Man it was Taco Bell, in recent years it has been Pizza Hut. So it is Schrodinger's Franchise War, I don't know who won until I see it on Dutch television again.

taco bell and pizza hut are both owned by pepsico, who figured they shouldnt advertise for taco bell in regions that dont have taco bell. so they have a dubbed version with pizza hut logos in some regions.
