Related: I was watching this old EIT of The Golden Girls Return from Space Mountain with a friend and we got wondering why there aren't cheesy TV specials anymore, or if there were and nobody gave a gently caress because everything's netflix and youtube now. Friend looked it up and apparently Disney still makes awkward specials with their creepy lab-grown child "influencers" and boy are there a lot of them. Yeah me too, but 1) If anyone made one today it would be tainted by horrible levels of self-awareness and irony poisoning and 2) they only really make sense in an era when you couldn't just pull up any of your favorite TV shows instantly and watch whatever you want, so you'd tune in to a special during the off-season to see your favorite star and catch a sneak peek at a new episode or something like that.

Once Disney bought ABC a lot of shows suddenly had a "We're going to Disney World!" episode, many of which were two-parters. 4 minute clips are the best they can do these days because their target demographic doesn't watch TV anymore. e: It seems like Disney World advertisements disguised as episodes are still a thing, albeit rarer.
