Happily shilling for China!
Tankies always give off this sort of born-again Christian vibe, where not too long ago they were regressive. Then some brain crisis happened and they went rushing all the way to to the other extreme, and spend all their days smugging about being the most pious in the room and taking every radical stance they can get their hands on.
Critical thinking never really enters the picture.

Yes, I was talking about the status quo before the fall of Sanaa. The government was insanely influenced by Sunni political parties with a goal of destroying the Zaidi community and receiving funding from the Saudis, and while Saleh may not have been personally invested in that goal, he did little to prevent the relevant actors from working towards the goal, and enjoyed the patronage that came with not getting in the Saudi's way. the increasing penetration of N Yemen by Saudi trained clerics and religious institutions in a coordinated campaign + empowering of militias by Saleh that were hostile to Zaidis were two of the triggers to escalating the conflict. I can add more detail later today.

That sounds like the kind of justification the Houthi would use for their actions, and maybe not without some justification. However you have to keep in mind the Hussein al-Houthi was basically a Yemeni Jerry Falwell so you have to take his statements with some grains of salt. From the 1990s onwards Yemenis, both Zaidi and conventional Sunni, began to radicalize under the influence of Saudi Salafism and Iranian Islamist revolutionary ideology.

It's weird how, whenever people point out that chuds and shitlibs have stopped mentioning Cuba as an example of "communism is bad", someone immediately rushes to do so and gets owned.

e: Then after that, you get the tankie who rushes in to say that that the DPRK and Cuba are Good Actually, and then gets shoutingly mad when people try to distance both themselves and Cuba from the tankie's comments and North Korea.

In response to the complaint brought by the Palestinians to the ICJ. Which challenged Washington’s decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The United States has withdrawn from the “optional protocol” under the 1961 Vienna Convention of Diplomatic Relations that reads as such: "Concerning compulsory settlement of disputes. Disputes arising from the interpretation of this treaty may be brought before the International Court of Justice."

Big Iraqi parties have agreed upon a new Prime Minister.

Can Iraq's new leaders deliver stability after months of deadlock? posted:

President Barham Salih, 58, who was elected by parliament, is respected by both the United States and Iran, arch-rivals whose competition for influence in Iraq has fueled factionalism in a country already dogged by deep sectarian rifts.

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani both congratulated Salih on Wednesday, raising hopes he might be able to energize the traditionally ceremonial role of president and engage Tehran and Washington to Iraq’s benefit.

“President Barham Salih has a strong personality and he’s well respected by the West and regional countries and most importantly Iran,” said senior lawmaker Rebwar Taha from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the party that nominated him.

Salih’s choice of Adel Abdul Mahdi, 76, as prime minister defuses months of tension between Iraq’s two main Shi’ite blocs who hold the most seats in parliament and possess the most powerful militias.

His premiership marks the end of 15 years of rule by the Dawa Party, which has dominated Iraqi politics since the toppling of Saddam Hussein in a U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Lawmakers said that was precisely what made Abdul Mahdi an attractive option, especially to powerful cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, who despises Dawa.

Sadr, alongside outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, leads one of the two main Shi’ite blocs. The other is led by Iran-backed militia leader Hadi al-Amiri and former premier Nuri al-Maliki.

I have no idea who he is or what this means for the future of Iraqi politics. At least it seems the Iraqi government is kinda functional.

To think before you speak is like wiping your arse before you shit.
I don't just blame US for Syria...

I also blame France and UK...I believe Obama was right with the freeloader theory...
If EU stepped up when it mattered, the pluralism and out shining of American involvement would increase the validity of the actions(after Bush legacy) but also further in the future when republicans elects a loving hothead pimp.

There was both moral and political gains for EU to step up... you would think the fuckers that hated asylum seekers would join in but for some reason they were on Assad side...

I remember the disappointments... it was early on...the embargo that started the descent... yet for me it never became an option not with the bodies that ranked up, AQ which basically is a bunch of Regional Nationalist in the grand scheme of things were amateurs....but they knew how to gently caress up a revolution. And it still wouldn't have matter in the greater evil scheme.

As for Yemen and Israel during this decade...you are right....it is hypocritcal...but it was sorta like...we got Syria....we got enough misery to worry about.
