Anyways what I am sure of is that the internet and the news were both developed as weapons designed to torture all of us. Also yes Darchangel the Qanoners are dead serious. I won't get to into it because I really don't want to contribute to this part of the conversation (for my own sanity/sobriety) but I will say this. Remember a few years ago when the gov was talking about paying to have high speed internet access extended to the sticks in the name of "educating and uplifting the rural poor"? Remember when we collectively thought that would be a good idea? Remember when that actually happened thanks to mobile devices and expanding 3g-4g access? Well... this is the fallout of that. This is why I think smartphones are bad. Honestly it's way too much responsibility for the average person.

I usually just try and get myself through each wave and it always eventually passes and then I don't even want it anymore. This week has been poo poo for health in the Wrar household. Starting with last weekend, my 14 month old was vomiting on and off for about 18 hours. My wife went through the same thing on Monday. Wednesday afternoon, I wasn't feeling 100, my stomach was a bit queasy. By night it was full blown nausea. In an effort to fall asleep I decided to take a warm shower, which was a big mistake. I heaved after being in the shower for a few minutes. Due to lowered central blood pressure from the shower, when I heaved again I passed out. My wife came over and I was unresponsive for a few minutes. I could "see" an after image of what normally would have been the bathroom from that POV. Once my brain got enough blood flow again, she was there, understandably terrified and on the phone with 911. Now somewhat alert I realized that I'd twisted my ankle badly and I couldn't see out of my left eye. My vision didn't fully return for another 5 minutes. The ambulance crew was extremely professional. I was mostly alert, scared and in a decent amount of pain. They did an EKG and a blood pressure test. My heart was working normally but per my wife I was very pale and the blood pressure test confirmed it. They loaded me into a chair, transferred me to the stretcher and took me to the hospital. I took 3 bags it saline and some anti nausea meds, which helped tremendously. An x-ray confirmed my ankle wasn't broken. By 3AM I was feeling much better, although I was totally exhausted from the whole affair. At some point I bit both sides of my tongue. Now I can't talk without pain either, so I'm limping around like a zombie and probably sound a bit like one too. Brains!

Thought about this, really when you live paycheck to paycheck (or close to it) health insurance is completely worthless. If I required extensive medical care I'd still be at least $7k in debt with my current insurance before it would pay a dime, and $7,000 might as well be $700,000 when a good week ends with over $100 in your checking account.

Where as here in the glorious communist country of Australia, my partners 90yr old grandfather collapsed at home the other day, got hauled by ambulance from Strathalbyn to the hospital at Mount Barker, assessed in the ED there, decided it was too much for them, then sent lights and Sirens to the Royal Adelaide Hospital ED, found to have a raging golden staph infection, which they threw antibiotics at, then discovered that one of his artificial knees has damage in it which is where the infection started, so they opened the knee up, did some exploratory surgery, cleaned the gunk out, put him in an infectious diseases ward, did MORE surgery to repair the knee implant and have kept him in the infectious diseases ward for two weeks now. Its cost him $200 out of pocket, and the biggest cost to us is the $5 an hr parking fee at the hospital. Universal healthcare is a GOOD THING. Every person in Australia who earns over $27K a year pays a 2% levy on their income to pay for it. So on my $50K a year income I pay $1000 a year (which I dont actually pay out of pocket- its deduced from my tax return) and it means that If i front up to ANY hospital ED in the country, Im treated for no out of pocket cost.

Not sure about other states. In wa an ambulance costs $1000 for urgent or $500 non urgent out of pocket. You used to be able to pay something like $30 a year direct to the ambulance company (st johns) for coverage, but they screwed that. So now you are hosed if you don't have private health insurance with ambulance cover in the package.

Meanwhile, in socialist Sweden a proposition to consider charging $30 for ambulance journeys to counteract people calling them unnecessarily is met with loud objections! Since it costs about $40 to get treated at the ER, the $30 was supposed to go toward that. Also after watching SavageGeese's Dodge Demon review I have to say that the sound a V8 with a supercharger makes, is one of the best sounds ever. cakesmith handyman posted:Fo3 I'm surprised you can't buy dedicated ambulance-only insurance, looks like a gap in the market The AU government wants everyone who can afford private health insurance to have full private cover, if you don't you pay extra tax/levy on your income. Also when you turn 30 y/o, the longer you leave it until you get private health insurance you will be penalised with a loading rate increase for the rest of your life for every year you delayed full cover after your 30th birthday. (The private insurers don't want only sick old people as customers - they want young healthy people paying in and making no claims; so the government is pulling this stunt) It's a government that strongly wants everyone off the public system, with levies and loading applied to make most people get off public service and onto private billing. So if you could afford an ambulance call out or monthly amb. ins. cover etc, you probably will already have insurance that covers more than just ambulance anyway. In short, Australia had universal health care but they don't want anyone to use it, and ambulance or dental has never been included. E: I just remembered, pensioners get free ambulance rides, so if in WA, ferremit's partners 90yo grandfather would have got the same treatment, but ferremit himself would have paid $1000 for the ambo if it happened to them.
