I’m in Melbourne for a short holiday no African gang sightings. I did see a drunk white guy yell about Pakistani taxi drivers foreskin outside the MCG after a driver said he was booked for someone else Then he started humming the French anthem or the Brisbane lions club song

Also the government already got rid of 457 visas because they were politically unpopular (some are still being granted but they're old pipeline ones) so the line about them is weird and out of date. They could talk about TSS/482s but I don't think the same furore about them being abused has built up yet so it's weird to mention it at all.

Can one of you informed people explain the Medicare freeze to me? Is it basically that the Govt isn’t increasing the fee they pay to doctors and haven’t done so since 2013?

Dude McAwesome posted:Can one of you informed people explain the Medicare freeze to me? Yes It's been like $37 since 2013 which means that more and more doctors are either reducing service to fit in more patients or abandoning bulk billing and taking a smaller Medicare rebate in exchange for ~$50 gap payments.
|
# ? Oct 8, 2018 00:23 |
|
The best bit of the Medicare rebate freeze is that it is offloading GP visits onto emergency departments (and thus state govt budgets)

it's cutting back medicare by stealth, basically.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies. Is that $37 figure for a 15 minute GP consult?

Yep. Standard or short consultation pays $37.60 from Medicare. The Medicare Schedule also accounts for a non-zero amount of costs for Private Health Insurance since they pay (upwards of) 25% of the MBS for inpatient costs if a private patient. That can go up depending on no-gap and known-gap schemes.
