Liz would always occasionally accept Jon's advances but garfield or Jon's clumsiness would always ruin their date. In 2006 they had a successful date ending in a kiss. Then a few more good dates and finally one where Jon revealed he carries photos of garfield as a kitten in his wallet. This won liz over completely as she is not just a vet but a true animal lover. Liz eventually worked through garfield's jealousy and now pseudo talks to and understands him in the same way Jon does. Jon has proposed and she has accepted but marriage has not yet been depicted. Here is a rare example of an unedited Garfield comic I actually consider reasonably funny:

There are some Garfield strips that have this strange anarchistic bent to them, that I do find funny. There's this one sunday special which I couldn't find a pic of, but it's just Garfield destroying things that wake him up. He demolishes the alarm clock, a landline phone, and it just escalates, until in the final panel he obliterates an ice cream truck that's playing its ad tune on the street. What makes it funny to me is that there's no punchline at all. It's just Garfield loving unloading on bigger and bigger things that make an annoying sound.
