So, what's heartbreaking to me personally, is that nobody remembers the NIU shooting because it was eclipsed by an even worse shooting that happened on the same day years later. When I saw David Hogg and the Parkland students making a lot of noise about the tragedy there I just kept thinking, "Good!" so hard because if people stop talking about it they will forget and once again you'll have America shrugging off dead kids like it's just a thing that happens sometimes. edit: Oh wait, that isn't funny. I remember that at the beginning of the semester (January) the school put up these "emergency procedure" booklets in most classrooms by the doors which instructed people what do in various emergency situations. All of them were pinned open to the "active shooter event" page. This was done as a response to the Virginia Tech shooting (Forget about that already? 32 dead students + shooter) which happened about a year prior. I remember looking at the booklet in class one day after they were put up and thinking that it was an overreaction, nothing like that would ever happen at this school. Then about a month later it did. has there been a school shooting yet since it started up again that the news already forgot?

There was a mass (~5 fatalities) shooting in my metro area mere weeks ago and even the local papers forgot about it after like a day. We did slightly better remembering the previous local mass shooting for a week or two, probably because the shooting literally was at a newspaper office and there was a trump tweet involved.
