"Where you came from, recently" seems to only really make a huge difference in your identity if you immigrated in the last handful of generations, or there are a lot of recent immigrants. Speaking as a very white person here, so I could easily be wrong

Probably not coincidentally, many Fox News addicts are retired and have plenty of time on their hands. A guy in one of my accounts at work was talking to me the other day. He lives with his daughter and granddaughter and is in relatively poor health. He mentioned his granddaughter loves Disney movies and his daughter and granddaughter watch them together. I smiled and told him that must be some good grandpa time and shook his head. "I'm upstairs watching Fox News to keep up with what's going on in the real world." It was the single saddest thing I've heard in a long time. This man, with his probably less than 10 years left on Earth is opting to watch Fox news rather than engage his daughter and granddaughter. Fox News' hold on the 50+ crowd and ESPECIALLY the 60+ crowd is mind boggling and tragic.

In Texas, voter registration is about 15,600,000 as of yesterday. In 2016, it was 15,000,000. Also, to put the numbers in more perspective, the voting age population is about 20 million.

Minorities don't have to be liberal/left but the mask has slipped and the GOP is explicitly the party of white resentment. So while that's the case, I'd expect most minorities to oppose the GOP at least.

Hey everyone! Are you like me, another uninformed voter who hasn't really paid attention to anything other than presidents and senators? Not sure what any of the weird ballot measures mean? Please use BALLOTPEDIA https://ballotpedia.org/2018_ballot_measures It's a wiki, but for politics and voting and stuff! It's very clear about what the ballot measures mean, which groups support or oppose them, and all that good stuff. You can see a list of every measure that's on the ballot for YOUR state, and maybe even make a little memo to remember which measure to vote for or against next month! Wowie!

lol, I'm just going to assume the D+13 generic ballot is a bit of an outlier, but if that actually happened, thats in the range of when gerrymandering begins to backfire and the GOP starts losing more seats than they would have with "fair" maps.

So while that's the case, I'd expect most minorities to oppose the GOP at least. I think it's more complicated than that--there is room for a minority in the GOP as long as they adhere to the rules of whiteness, and for a lot of folks, that's enough. I mean, Log Cabin Republicans exist, and there are billionaire Democrats despite Dem policies being ostensibly* bad for their pocketbooks. People are more than just one facet of themselves. I grew up in a majority Latinx community and the most vocally racist person I knew, specifically towards Latinx people, was himself a first generation American with Mexican parents. Not a white guy in any meaningful way; would not pass a paper bag test, spoke with a slight accent, but considered himself 100% American, and Republican, and loving HATED other Mexicans. Growing up, the conflicts around race that I witnessed within our community were not between white people and Latinx people; it was always between 2nd or 3rd generation American kids who were Latinx towards newly-arrived ESL students. *not actually

As anyone who lives in a reddish-purple state knows, it can be difficult to find credible candidates for statewide and federal positions because there just isn't anyone with the appropriate experience who wants to run. Ut can two or three election cycles to really build up a competitive bench. Now imagine facing that in 2020 - everywhere.
