Given everyone's level of competence, and the helicopter physics discussed earlier, it seems possible that Kingpin sent the chopper into the death spiral by diving too hard, and the punches had nothing to do with it.

NSM is obviously going to crash a helicopter into the theater where Mary Jane's play is because he is jealous that everyone loves her. That stuff earlier where he was worried about the condition of the theater? That was just to cover himself.
