I've been a WX nerd for around 20 years but I work in data science and journalism so I'm not going to go all "oh poo poo everyone is hosed and here's my landfall prediction" -- but what just happened around 20 minutes ago is less than optimal in terms of this thing slowing down even a little. Water temps are between 81 and 85. Unless it magically decides to replace an eye wall right before landfall, it looks pitted to just increase in intensity until it hits. That being said, 2am NHC hits in a second.

It's going to be weird when there's a six foot deep big, hot ocean surface, with all the abandoned buildings sticking out of it, covering the lower two-thirds of Florida

You know, I'm pretty sure the mound building native Americans of this region built mounds so that they would have a place to hang out when it was flooding

Yeah, mounds are pretty sweet. And they’re made of garbage, which is eco-friendly. We should make more mounds.

Like 95% of my family lives in/around Valdosta and I'm starting to get a bit worried for them now. My parents and two youngest siblings live in a house surrounded by tall pines, probably 20ish trees are capable of landing on the house. My other brother doesn't have trees around his place, but he lives in a newer mobile home. One of my uncle lives in a wooden house that's over 100 years old with tall pines AND live oaks around it. And so on... It's my mom's birthday today,

https://twitter.com/TODAYshow/status/1049986441542074368 aaaaaaa maria casualties were massive due to government apathy/incompetence/racism etc but also having nowhere to evacuate to this could have an even higher death toll just from the sheer cognitive deficit of homo floridiensis
