All of the stores near me stopped stocking amiibo completely.  One of the places said that there were times they'd go over a week without selling a single one.I wasn't buying a ton of them anyway, but it sucks knowing that if one comes out I really want I have to resort to paying inflated prices online and I can't inspect them for major defects before buying.

I stopped collecting them around the time the switch came out, I kind of ran out of space near my TV. I never paid over retail for any of them. I did import a few from Japan early on which wasn't cheap shipping, but wasn't bad, especially if you were getting more than 1 the shipping would only go up a few cents. I never had any defective amiibo's and I'm sure Amazon would ship you out a replacement. The massive shortage is pretty much over as long as you get them before they stop making it. The shortage was caused by trying to rush out the entire smash line in waves and there was far more demand than expected. There's an amiibo thread if you're really into them. I just like having a giant mess of videogame characters, it's better looking than the kidrobot collection I was starting.

Then they decided that that was too humanizing so they put everyone on a long trough with interchangeable workstations because nobody really needs a customized environment or personal effects. I think the next thing we're attempting is putting people back-to-back in the same cubicle. I'm looking forward to playing the hand equivalent of footsie whenever we both decide to stretch at the same time.

Nintendo's huge push for Animal Crossing Amiibo to go along with Happy Home Academy and New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo was the worst thing. Whenever I go to any place that sells Amiibo, I'd wager at least half of the Amiibo on display are overstocked Animal Crossing characters that aren't the big popular ones like Isabelle, K.K Slider, and Nook. They should have just made the Isabelle Amiibo and relegated even more of those characters to Amiibo Card exclusivity, because as you said all I ever see are like Lotties and Blathers'. I knew it got bad when some retailers were doing buy 1 get 3 free deals exclusively for Animal Crossing Amiibo.

I assume when you buy the Starlink ships/pilots they unlock the DLC in your game permanently to use without the toys? Because if not, how the hell are you supposed to play handheld. I purchased the digital version as the extra unlocks were a sweet deal, but I was curious how that works.
