i voted for cuomo on WFP four years ago because i felt it was important to keep them around. now it's clear they've outlived their usefulness. depending on how i feel on election day, i'm either doing the same thing, or voting hawkins (who is far more Socialist Party than Green and would run for them if they had a ballot line)

That said, the entire lobbying and moralnpower of the WFP comes from them making up a substantial portion of democratic victory margins. Hopefully no one minds me posting this here, but I'm doing whatever I can to gain some support. There is a protest at the Al Smith Dinner on Thursday in support of Catholic School teachers. The Archdiocese of NY has us working without a contract, we were declined a raise, and had our pensions attacked. We also were threatened with job losses, and have had propaganda sent to parents claiming we have made unreasonable demands. Our union (FCT) is not affiliated with the public schools union (UFT) and is much smaller. I'm not the protest organizer but I'm trying to do what I can to drum up more support, especially in the form of people on site. Thanks everyone!

I'm of the opinion that increasing availability of social services in struggling schools is worthwhile even if it doesn't have an immediate effect on academic performance, so that article feels really inflammatory. These things take generations to work, not 2 years.
