Honestly, if someone asked me to recommend two episodes of AHS: Coven to give an idea of what the show is about, it would be these past two episodes of Apocalypse.

Coven was at it's best when it focused on the Coven, and could have used a bit more of the Voodoo Coven as well. If it had dropped all the extra poo poo, like the witch hunters, etc., it would probably feel more like this.

And I say this with Murder House/Coven being my favourites.

I don't disagree. I might slam Coven all the time for being the most incoherent TV show this side of Dexter or later Heroes, but there was a lot of potential there; it makes it a little frustrating sometime. I liked the characters. I liked the setting. It was always shot nice, it always had neat ideas. But it was like some meth'ed out guy rambling good idea after good idea after good idea until he starts rambling bad ideas and changing his good ideas in TV form.

There was a lot to like under the surface. The show was cool when it was going to be Coven vs Voodoo but then they just undid that like 4 episodes in. It seemed to abort every single plot it had prematurely and like I said above, nothing about the rules of the universe really made sense. Why I'm really surprised how much I like this season and appreciate seeing good characters done much better.*

* They should have learned not to stuff a 5 minute Stevie Nicks cameo in singing again though. I think it was hilarious they remembered her, but should have left it at the dinner scene.

ED: Oh yeah I think things like the Witch Hunters could have been awesome. The problem wasn't introducing them, it was doing them SO poorly. The idea of a group of hunters that evolved into a meganational corporation is right up my alley; I loving love that sort of thing. Then they all just go 'Oh hey guys witches have invited every single one of us to the same room to surrender. Let's all go in good faith, we're genius.' Ugh. Written well, that could have been a season primary antagonist with plenty of potential for some dark humor about evil corporate culture.

Part of this is why I'm glad this season opened with the destruction of the world and the decay after; you know the villain this time around is a serious loving threat. There's very few side-threats that they could pull out of their hat that'd upend this.

70s singer as well, as she was also the vocalist of Fleetwood mac.

Among her fans, accusations about witchcraft have been common for years, due to her youthful appearance and vigor (she's 70 years old).

One of the coolest details in Coven was the story about the immortal swamp witch Misty Day, who lived a hermit life and had an almost religious spiritual relationship with the music of Fleetwood mac, claiming that Nicks was CERTAINLY a witch, as there was no other explanation for her haunting vocal performance. It added some fun flavor to Misty's character and plot, and it didn't really need any closure (much like the Anne Frank subplot in Asylum where it never was revealed if she was telling the truth about her identity or just was delusional). Of course, Murphy had to destroy that ambiguity by revealing that Nicks was a legendary white witch, and gave her a central part in the last few episodes.

Yeah, that was great.

She walks in, Sings Seven Wonders which happens actually be about the supreme test, and after the song she just . . . walks out the door? Did she leave her car lights on? Is she double parked??

I wonder when they cut back to present time if we'll ever see any of the people that got killed again or if they were entirely a red herring. Part of me wonders if we're EVER going to cut back to present time now until the end of the season, when the battle commences.

Like Jesus, candy, and crackerjacks! Ice cream and cake and lots o'laffs!
Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Joe! Larry, Curly, and brother Moe!
Having not watched since the beginning of S5, this season has been fun on a guilty pleasure level, and I didn’t expect much more than that.

That said, good lord is it a loving trainwreck in terms of basic narrative structure. I’m going to charitably assume that the characters and events of the first three episodes will become relevant again in S6 or later, and that the creators didn’t just decide “gently caress this, we’re just doing Coven S2” midway through, but if you have three consecutive all-flashback episodes midway through the season, you’re doing something wrong.

I can't disagree though I kind of can cope with it here because it's a backdoor season and switch up of what you think is going on. But I expected the flashback to be like, an episode long. I'm starting to get really concerned we're never getting back to the present.

Well, the present is basically the witches vs the Antichrist. There isn't much left to support episodes--the bunker food supply is exhausted, the world is poo poo and bombed out, and Langdon sure as hell (ha!) isn't going to back down and let them escape now that he has them under one roof. Everyone else is already dead.

So I think we're getting another 2-3 flashback narratives leading up the Bombs, then 2-3 Final Conflict eps.
So if I had to guess:
Next ep will be mostly MH and end with them maybe reporting back about devilbaby,
Following ep is the Cooperative founding and Cordelia trying to save the Coven,
Then Halloween will advance to the bombs and bring us back to the present.

Come to me .... and live forever.
I assumed it was more meaningful than that - the ability to detect poisons and such, since she saved her brother from eating a potentially lethal thing.

But apparently not, since she would have presumably not eaten the Stu stew, or, y'know, the poisoned apple.

Pretty sure she didn't eat the poisoned apple; she was off getting face-stabbed well before they bobbed for those apples IIRC.

Really digging this season so far. I've been expecting a big twist but nope, it's actually halloween, and the outside world really is a poo poo. I was a little confused when they did the Halloween episode when it was like 10/1 but now it makes more sense.

It's also super refreshing to see a character on a show not be a total idiot and instead have used the 7 wonders as a test of how strong the anti-christ is.

See I hate this thinking. There seems to be a line in this thread where you have to like every campy bit of this show because it's campy. This show is half campy/half serious and a lot of people like the serious aspect of it with Asylum/Murder House/Roanoke/Cult.

The Stevie Nicks portion was just plain bad. She's atonal, it was jarring, and it went on for way too long. Even from a campy point of view it was terrible.

Liking the majority of the season so far but Stevie Nick's loving suuuuuckssssss and if I never hear her sing a single atonal note again I'll be so happy, skipped through all of that awful segment. Like maybe if they had her singing in the background as something actually interesting happened it might be tolerable but the whole thing is so cringy as it's basically hey watch the cast do what they did in coven and sit around fawning over this over the hill singer which reeks of the creator of the show pandering to her because she's a big get I guess?

And I love the cheesy nature of the show but my god I hope she goes the way of that interrogating detective next episode.

As bad as the Stevie Nicks scene was, I think another reason it didn't bother me much was I 100% expected this to happen at least once, since I'm p sure we already knew Nicks was also returning.

Like at least they very tenuously tried to have it fit as a 'hey misty is back from hell and we know her idol stevie nicks so let's get her to sing for her again as a welcome home' thing but it still didn't need to be 4 minutes long lmbo

I would love if it it wasn't as sincere as it obviously is and they're setting up a huge troll. Like she starts singing, then 10 seconds into the song her neck snaps because Mr. Langdon has had enough.

Agreeing with whoever said the Rescuing Misty scene was cool and good, I loved the weird face effects going on when the 'kids' started communing with Michael.
