I think most people would call what you are describing as merely the process of capital accumulation. Socialists and communists and so on would embrace capital accumulation as a means of economic development just because it's so obvious.

I wouldn't use the word capitalism to interchangeably mean capital accumulation.

capitalism is the system in which a ruling class comprised of those who own most or all of the capital privately use their accumulated wealth to acquire more and keep the proles in line and working for nothing.

I like all the :smug: comments about how hard is working fast food anyway.

the work is easy, dealing with the grownass adults acting like literal children over cheap garbage food is the actual hard part. you get poo poo pay and treat like poo poo constantly and people genuinely wonder why nobody gives a gently caress.

the half-off has a limit of $6 so you couldn’t even get anything other than the cheapest poo poo. not that it mattered to me because there’s no way in gently caress I was going to pay my job for food while getting an unpaid lunch half-hour

Fast food places routinely steal wages and make petty changes to make the workers' lives that much worse.

"We could give you a raise but we already provide half of your first meal a day. We used to provide free meals, but you took advantage of them so we got rid of them. We also know you come from a food insecure household, but we're going to make you throw away the leftovers anyway, and if you get caught eating anything -- ANYTHING -- at the restaurant without a receipt you're loving out of here."

Why are we as a people convinced we should keep fast food wages low because other skilled jobs don't make more than $15/hr? Maybe instead of keep everything down because gently caress you we band together and try to get the stagnated wages across the board raised?

It's literally just an outdated mindset held by people in ther 50s or older who think fast food still works like it did 30 years ago (i.e., every fast food worker is a teenager looking to make a little money and get their start as a worker). None of the people with this mindset realize that most fast food workers today are adults with families whose wages account for more than half of the family's income.

It's also outright greed from lobby groups like the National Restaurant Association who have fought tooth and nail against any fast food wage increases for the last 20+ years. Basically every lobby group has propagandized for decades to get American workers to punch down and therefore never present a united front against them.

Tl,dr only violent revolution will save us

A friend of mine learned that the hard way. He busted his rear end doing everything real management did for less pay because they kept dangling the carrot of "it'll happen soon" in front of him. It took like three years before they made him management.

That's because almost every job brow beats into you that you aren't allowed to discuss your wage with coworkers. Some threaten write ups for it. Mostly it boils down to pretty rear end people being awful. I dated a crazy in my department at Walmart who took personal offense and got angry at me that I'd only been there a year and was making 10 cents less than her after 3.

As has been pointed out, most of the workers are now well into adulthood, but they are desperate and so willing to put up with quite a lot of bullshit to keep their jobs.

It's totally hosed and basically any minimum wage job in existence is a moral sin
