My whole family is UVA alums, so as long as we don't lose to them they can enjoy being the snuffed part of the snuff film that will be Clemson vs the Coastal rep in the ACCCG. VT can easily win or lose every game left on the schedule so the ACC is nothing if not ridiculous and unpredictable which should make for a tight November conference race.

Arizona started at -1 and they're now +7, that's a pretty wild swing and I have no idea who wins this one.

Oh, I saw earlier this week that Missouri forcing that punt in the third quarter made your punter come in for the 5th game this season.

Take that Bama, you can't redshirt your apparently really lovely punter anymore.

It's cool. It wasn't that great of a post anyway. Reminds me of a Mitch Hedberg joke:

"I mumble a lot off-stage, I'm a mumbler. If I'm walking with a friend and I say something, he won't hear me, he'll say 'What?' So I'll say it again, but once again he doesn't hear me, so he says 'What?' But really it's just some insignificant poo poo that I'm saying, but now I'm yelling, 'That tree is far away."

No moon poll thread this year? If there's any interest, here's mine for this week. General gist: each team has a rating, the game outcomes (in terms of score differences) are treated as drawn from a Gaussian with mean equal to the rating difference. Markov chain Monte Carlo to find the ratings and width of the Gaussian. All Division 1 games are included and all teams are rated on an equal footing, although I only show FBS teams here. It's a hierarchical model, so the ratings are themselves assumed drawn from an underlying Gaussian of mean 0 and calculated variance. The model doesn't know divisions/conferences are a thing, and order of games does not matter.

Upshot: Depressing as it may be, it is ridiculous how far Bama is above the rest. They are an almost 10 point favorite against #2 Clemson, which is odds of about 3:1 for in this model. They are almost as far above #2 as #2 is above #20. Life is a cruel thing, Tuscaloosa is a hellmouth, etc, etc.

But anyway the rest is sort of interesting too.

Word from the Auburn insiders is that the super smart rich guys, who all earned their money by being smart and wise in a meritocracy, have been convened and are prepared to, if necessary after sober deliberation, make Gus Malzahn the first man in human history to get paid $38 million to coach one season of American college football. It could not have possibly been foreseen that his performance was on balance relatively good but extremely volatile from year to year, there was absolutely no evidence of this when they decided to guarantee 75 percent of a $49 million contract.
