Ok so I've got offers from goons for the Calth box, and soon someone with 3x Prospero boxes worth of Marines, a few HQs and a Dreadnought.

I'm just gonna grab the best deal likely, but all things equal, is there any actual difference between Mk 3 and 4 armor?

My plan is likelt Salamanders bc I already plan to make them as a 40k army, I have Bray'arth, Vulkan is extremely badass and those Firedrakes make me tingly.

My alternate option would be Imperial Fists since I have an airbrush and would like to use it more, but one of the few locals I know who plays already runs them, and his poo poo looks really really good.

Purely cosmetic. If you want to be really grognardy about it, some Legions favored certain MKs over others, but no one else will likely care.

That's what I figured. Now I need to decide which I like more.

If it was Fists it'd be Mk III. Mk 4s seem more ... Lizardy

Fists were one of the first loyalist legions to have a lot of MK4. Before Isstvan, Horus made sure his legions got most of it. When the Heresy broke out, a lot of Fists went to Mars to fight in the Schism and helped themselves to stockpiles of MK4.

Also keep in mind that while different legions have different preferences in tactics and whatever, there were so many marines in each that everyone used pretty much everything so you don’t really need to justify using whatever models you want (unless you’re just putting down regular 40k marines, that’s lame)

In the fluff MK3 was considered to be 'void hardened' and a few units do get rules for that, but it's no longer tied to MK3

MkIII works great for Salamanders. Their thing is all about getting up close and personal to torch and hammer fools and that's basically what MkIII is built for. MkIV totally works too; every legion had everything to a certain degree so there's no need to limit yourself to specific armor types unless you want to. The Salamanders' fancy hat set even has a MkIII/MkIV split.

I typically keep to a certain armor mark within a squad, but there's nothing saying you have to.

No I don't really have many regular marines, I have Deathwatch and Imperial Fists that's made of some truly awful tac marines I painted when I first got back in. And I wouldn't do that anyway, the 30k models have a good look IMO

Everyone and their mother in Ultramar walks around in Mk4 plate. Mainly because they manufactured their own.

Answer for me these questions three!

1. What is your favorite mark of armor?

2. How do you feel about templates?

3. What is the Worst Legion?

Oof, I'm sorry, friend. While the first two questions are open to interpretation and a range of answers are accepted, the third isn't. The Worst Legion has been conclusively proven in this very thread and I know for a fact that you, in particular, are quite familiar with them.

Again, I'm very sorry about this, but I'm going to need you to uninstall Slack on all of your devices. An agent will be by shortly to ensure your compliance in these matters. Additionally, they will dispose of your "collection" in the appropriate manner.

Your cooperation is expected and any deviation is punishable by REDACTED under Ham Code 30005-14.

What does the second chart say exactly

tallkidwithglasses

TheBigAristotle posted:

It’s a little backwards because I am incredibly lazy, but it’s a table on how the ranking went per legion, where “minimum” is the highest ranking score that particular legion got, “maximum” is bottom, the next two columns are what they say they are, and the last column is variance of the legions dataset from its mean.

They don’t have special rules or anything but you can absolutely take them as regular dreadnoughts. I use the chaplain dread in my Dark Angels when I play Ironwing.

Absolutely. Ashmantle is wearing the same armour that Cassian Dracos (a very cool Salamanders Dreadnought character with rules) first received from Vulkan during the 30k era, and a Chaplain Dread can just be used as a fancy Castraferrum Dreadnought; I have a whole Talon of them in my Sons of Horus army.
