OrthoTrot posted:Thanks. I will try and write something about Ladbroke Grove next as its a really big deal. Like Clapham Junction it has had a massive impact. You can still get killed on the railway easily enough but it's hard to imagine something like that happening again. Our biggest risk these days is probably rear end collisions or a Germanwings style "I'm going down and I'm taking you all with me". Just want to chime in and say that I'm really enjoying these as well.

Diesel engines are loving loud though, how were they so unaware that they didn't hear it. You should be able to hear one at idle from quite a distance away.

Im guessing that they've heard it in the background long enough for their brains to filter it out as irrelevant white noise.

Self-reporting as an unsafe worker Tasted some nice spicy 480 the other day while farting around with control power wiring and not considering where my hands were. Don't work on live gear, kids! Even if it's convenient! We're about to have a big fat safety standdown here, but it's due to the seven fatalities we've apparently had. I'm not one of them. As far as I know.

According to the trove, Peng Yu not only confessed to knocking over that supposedly greedy granny in 2006, but he actively solicited the local news media and online forum moderators to promote him as a martyred Good Samaritan. EDIT: I can no longer read that article on Bloomberg, but I also remember it was mentioned somewhere that local officials kept the whole thing secret for some asinine reason involving face Slanderer fucked around with this message at 23:11 on Oct 17, 2018 |

My grandmother was one of the first doctors to arrive at Moorgate. She understandably never talked about what she saw down there, but between the pictures, and reading the accident reports, my impression is that it was close to hell on earth frankly.

Yeah, I'd never seen it used as a verb, but it effectively lets you know what happened. It's about as evocative as the seemingly innocuous phrase "injuries incompatible with life".

We have a large concrete pad at the yard, for working on large equipment. There is a little building on the pad, for providing power since the pad is a ways away from the 2 big shops. It is 40-50 feet from where the electricians shop is. I do not like the electricians in the yard.

Oh they'll need some empty boxes alright...

Buttcoin purse posted:Should I read it or will you be covering this too eventually OrthoTrot? (also: thanks!) It's probably worth a read as I'm not sure I would have a lot to say about it. The driver approached the station, sped up, and hit the buffer stops. We have absolutely no idea why. He might have been asleep but trains have dead man handles, so being unconscious for that long should result in the brakes coming on. It certainly shouldn't result in more power being taken. We do now have safety features that mean you can't do more than about 10mph approaching buffers, so even if you did this the speeds involved should be much lower. That's about the only mitigation possible for the always present risk that one day someone who's shown no signs of anything before might do something completely inexplicable.
