An interesting nugget from today's questionably sourced whispery 'process' Bernie hackery in Politicoquote:Still, even Sanders supporters who are skeptical of a 2020 run say it’s unclear who, if anyone, could carry the torch. Elizabeth Warren is often discussed, but multiple former Sanders staffers were dubious about her potential campaign after watching her attempt to defuse President Donald Trump's attacks on her past claims of Native American ancestry this week. My favorite, telling quote of the whole piece? increasingly nervous establishment man for the seventh time this year posted:Sanders should just declare victory, they said, content in the knowledge that much of his 2016 platform has been adopted by other ambitious Democrats considering White House bids. "You, uh, already won. No need to run for anything, really!"

the best political writer weighs in:quote:I like Elizabeth Warren a lot. She’s probably my second-favorite elected official. It’s only thanks to her that we have the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the best agency in the U.S. federal government. She is gutsy, smart, and she cares about the economic well-being of ordinary people. https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/10/elizabeth-warrens-native-ancestry-response-is-a-complete-disaster

Bernie is doing a lot of rallies actually right now, he’s gonna be in Wisconsin on Monday. Also Barbara Lee as VP is probably the strongest move Bernie could make and I would stan the gently caress out of him.

Kamala's pushing a tax bill right now that isn't going to go anywhere but it notably does have Universal Basic Income Lite in it, which is pretty interesting from a person who's obviously planning on running.

Bernie's gonna be 79 in 2021 so pretty much by definition anyone he picks as running mate is younger than him, but if he won I would be seriously concerned he would die in office or his brain would turn into mush like Trump/Reagan. If you could somehow transplant his brain into a 50 or even 60 year-old I think he'd be looking much better in this pre-primary phase, his age is a major concern.
