AFAICT Spencer never recovered from the punch. He got the Alex Jones treatment on social media and last I heard DSA was protesting in front of his DC flat and he had a Nice Meltdown when one of his events with 10 Nazis & 300 people screaming at him to shut the gently caress up got constantly interrupted

Spencer's final remotely successful event was at Michigan State University on March 5th, where cops escorted 30 nazis through a crowd of 500 protestors. He spoke without interruption to his crowd of dozens, but the only results were one nazi got arrested on a weapons charge, a few protesters were arrested while pushing against the police line (Spencer wandered by the police station afterwards to gloat), the Trad Workers with Heimbach started a few inconclusive pushing/wrestling fights, and Spencer called the entire rest of his speaking tour off. Somewhere there's a great photo of hugging crying nazis under escort from the event while the crowd flanks and yells at them. The Michigan state even killed Spencer because the only people who showed up aside from his 4 body guards where the TradWorkers who he found embarrassing. They got themselves cornered in the livestock pavilion and couldent even get his whining heard over the screaming and then had to march back out through a mob.

The reason the proud boys are still around is because they have a strong social group and culture that supports the fash activities. Social belonging is the main draw to political groups. And they have the tacit support of the GOP and probably some darkmoney funders. To crush the proud boys, you have to crush their social spaces at the root, not just when they go out to "march"
