His point (I think) is that this is not A Sweaty Fatbeard’s first or only thread, and this one starting with a foaming poop volcano does not prove that everything in his threads has always been foaming poop volcanoes.

We used to get thousands of words from A Sweaty Fatbeard where the only drugs he ingested were things like, “leftover beer found on the roadside,” and non-heroic doses of, like, weed. The major drug episodes were more like spice. Now, they’re the entire thread. No more lengthy discussion of brutalist architecture and leftover bomb shelters.

Like, if you don’t think “is now waking up in state mental hospitals for forced detox” is indicative of a downward trend, I guess we’re working from differing frames of reference.

The junkie episodes were always part of these threads, but they co-existed with other things. Now, they’re like 90% of everything he writes. It’s distressing, because I like his threads, and I don’t like watching people commit slow-motion suicide.

Yeah, the thread slowly became creepy.

I love drugs and honestly would be high as balls all the time if I didn't want to live to be 100 and accomplish {things} before then. Also, my husband and friends would be annoyed with me.

So I empathize with ASF on that front. But yeah, his overall quality of life would likely improve if he stopped buying expired Estonian opiates at the flea market as his main hobby. Repairing the radios seems like a better plan.

On the third hand, I know a couple of people who lived through serious illnesses they weren't expected to survive and live the "gently caress it, I'm on borrowed time, nothing matters so I'll just do whatever" lifestyle and if that's where ASF is right now, it wouldn't be a shock.

Take care of yourself, ASF. You've got a gift for storytelling and a lot of Internet strangers would really miss you if you weren't here.

Yeah, fair points. I honestly forgot there have been multiple Fat Beard threads, and in fairness, this one is over three years old and time has blurred all of his threads into a single hazy recollection. You guys are right, there is a significant downward trend on ASFB's quality of life.

I suppose the question is, where do we want to go from here? Is keeping this thread open encouraging his self-destruction? I'm asking for honest opinions, because I have to admit, I feel ambivalent about keeping it open. The last thing I want is a morbid exhibition on substance abuse/countdown thread to ASFB's death by misadventure, but this thread is also really good.

You'd have to ask A Sweaty Fatbeard, obviously, but I feel like this thread probably has some degree of therapeutic effect for him. I think there's a reason he keeps coming back to tell us about his life, and why he's so eager to tell us when he gets clean(ish). Again, you'd have to ask him. Maybe I am reading too much into this, but he's been keeping us up-to-date more or less regularly for years, now.

I think most of the posters in here genuinely want good things to happen to A Sweaty Fatbeard, and I think a lot of them (like me) would be perfectly happy if the drugs disappeared, completely, and this thread was only about his wacky former tenants, and cool bicycling trips through Zagreb. What I'm saying is, I don't think this thread has descended to a point where there are a bunch of jackals just waiting around for tragedy to strike. I think it's still a pretty chill place, mostly full of people who are genuinely interested in A Sweaty Fatbeard's life and adventures, and not just in watching addiction porn. I wouldn't suggest closing the thread (yet), but I can totally see that as a reasonable option.

It must be weird to log on and see people discussing you like this, huh, Fatbeard?

Tbh to get fatbeard to stop with the drugs permanently will probably have to involve him not knowing where to get them. And to strictly control his medication intake if it's stuff he can get high off. And Croatia is unfortunately a place where you can get drugs literally everywhere and doesn't seem to have social workers to regulate his meds.

Yes, these are all good points; this is ultimately FatBeard's thread, and he's the one keeping it alive with his updates. I don't want to feed into a spectacle, but if this thread has value for him (and us) and if it helps him in some small way, I don't want to pull the plug. It's a good question, and I see how this causes some dilemma as a mod.

For me, although this thread is getting him attention for his antics, it gets him no more attention for doing drugs than for giving tours of his country, or describing his weird new job, or any of the other drug-unrelated things he does. If he had a come-to-Jesus-I'm-over-the-drugs series of posts it would get him no less attention than the "woke up to a burnt chair on my stove" posts. Plus there's a lot more voices urging him to get control in this thread than it sounds like there are in his own life.

Hello thread!

I don't even know where to begin describing the events that came to pass in the last month. I did post some short blurbs, due to the lack of time, but I'll try to convey a more complete picture of what happened with this post.

a) The hospital itself is a collection of small detached brick houses, built in the 1950s, but you could never tell that, because the buildings are meticulously maintained and constantly being modernized. Hell, I could even say that the hospital is comfy - and the food is good, too. I gained twenty pounds during my stay!

b) The people. There was this kid, named Ivan, who had a very unfortunate combination of OCD and homosexuality. He would sometimes lock onto your face, being fascinated with your skin texture or something, and he had to feel you with his hand. This was completely harmless, but the guy who was being felt would flip the gently caress out and start a big brawl. Then the medics had to separate them, and poor Ivan would get tied to the table in order to calm down. He would later ask around if someone has a cellphone to spare, and I did give my phone to him once... only for him to call the police over "being attacked". The coppers know him all too well already and nothing came out of this - he's one of those people who phones the police eleven times a day. And there was this guy, called Damir, who was so bloody hosed up on thorazine that he didn't speak at all, only nodding, and had to be walked around like a retarded pooch. One guy holding him by his arm at each side and down the corridor we went, so his muscles wouldn't atrophy too much. Poor guy. He is slowly getting better, but at a snail's pace. Let's all pray for him.

c) Phones. We were mostly kept incommunicado at the closed ward. We'd only have phones from 11AM till noon, and then again from 5 to 6PM. The word was that our calls were being monitored, so they reduced the time in order to make the analisys easier.

d) Hospital policy. You can't just waltz out of the closed ward with real-deal lunatics. If you're a good boy, you'll get transferred to the open ward, meaning that you could walk around the hospital premises, which are designed and meticulously maintained like a park. If you don't gently caress up then, you'll gain the right to go to the nearby grocery store. If that goes well, you'll get a weekend leave so you could go home for a few days. And if that goes well, and if the medics see that you don't have trouble taking you meds, and if your psychiatrist sees that you have stabilized, well then, you're a free man. That's how it went for me, but the process took a whole month!

e) The hospital stay accidentally cleaned me up from all the nasty drugs I had in my system. I have a problem though, I took too much Pregabalin/Lyrica in the past few days and now I either have to embarass myself in front of my GP (who is an angel) or call the Drug Baba, which is something I'd rather not do at this point.

This is the hospital part of the story. Now about Vesna.
See, she and I became good friends, sharing the same diagnosis and all (F20). One night I invited her to my place because I knew that she desperately wants to take my virginity for some incomprehensible reason. Well, she gave me an erotic massage and drooled all over me but my dick failed to take off. Didn't budge at all. She massaged me for like an hour but nothing much came of this - at least I can say that I finally felt the touch of a woman (and that my dick is dead.) :smith:

Yes, Lyrica is a great drug but has a high incidence of sexual side effects, even when used at appropriate doses (which we all know our dear ASF wasn't doing).

Of course, it could also be a side effect of ASF's past cancer treatment.
