Also don't play games with classified, dipshit. Posting all junior-high-mysterious about what "may or may not" be classified is going to get your dumb rear end in deep loving trouble. A couple of goons have already been lifelong deep dicked by posting things they shouldn't.

Fun fact, you can arrive at these conclusions without them being specifically declassified. There is public information on a lot of classified info. You just need to know what to look for and where to look. Obviously you'd never know unless it's verified by the government. Plus China knows more than I do about the F22 already.

Don't be a dipshit. "They already knew the information I sold them" has been a weak sauce excuse several convicted spies have made. The secret service visits are bad enough, we don't need NCIX on Lowtax's case too.

Some of the Things That Are Against The Rules if you have a security clearance:

- confirming publicly available classified information (e.g. Wikileaks)
- compiling disparate unclassified information to create a more detailed description of something
- making fictitious claims about classified information or programs

So if you did have a clearance you could indeed get in trouble for making an earnest claim that you have knowledge about a secret program of fighting lizard aliens in Antarctica. Probably not the highest thing on the priority list for the FBI to go after, but it's technically illegal.

If you've never had a clearance and signed on the dotted line, yeah, I don't think there's really anything they can do to you.

e:

Honestly, the more I think about it the less crazy that sounds. I'm sure Lockmart would still find a way to make it hellish, but it does gel with the "evolutionary not revolutionary" design philosophy for the next fighter program. Like, sure, it'll basically be a completely new airplane, but at least they can save themselves from having to reinvent every single system and piece of gear.

Everything you're saying to defend yourself is in every loving security briefing I've ever sat through as what NOT to do. Piecing together unclass/open source things to compile something that might be classified? Yeah. Don't do that. "They already know it." Don't do that either.

Spitballing random stuff is one thing...presenting it as coming from a person with a position of authority (that whole "may or may not" thing) is a HUGE no-no. It's a security incident, at the very least, and it WILL cost a person their clearance.

Finger Prince posted:

OTOH that's not how that works (except that individual is an OCA, which is unlikely) and would open both of them up to investigation. The right way to do this would be to talk to the OCA or reference the security classification guide for the project/system in question.

But we also know that's not how it happened.

Remanufacturing the F-22's airframe with updated engines and avionics strikes me as the most logical way forward, seeing as there's nothing on the horizon that competes with the F-22.

You'd be speculating as much as I'd be speculating how it happened. How about "hey Jim, I hear they're looking for someone to head up the f119 production line restart. You gonna apply?"
:v:"Nah, they make you sign all that classified poo poo on the military stuff and you know I can't keep my mouth shut."

:v:"hey guys I hear they may or may not be restarting the f119 production line but you didn't hear it from me, nudge nudge wink wink".

None of the above was ever classified.

Really doesn't need updated engines I'd think. Just need to build more of them, which apparently P&W is at least preparing to do.

I'm hoping for his sake that he was just saying that to sound cool and does not hold a clearance; the only concern would be an NDA with P&W/UTC/whatever other subcontractor.
