They threw all the pink triangle detainees back in the horror prisons, and in some cases enforced the laws even more aggressively until the late 60s, in both East and West Germany. It's a point of contention in gay history of how the figures are counted, because while the Allies obviously deserve credit as liberators of the Jews and Roma and some of the political prisoners, the persecution and forced labor of gay men in East and West Germany didn't much change between 1935 and 1965, so do you count that as part of the Holocaust figures, or as part of a wider European 'gay purge'? On one hand it's important to remember that Hitler stoked up homophobia for his own purposes, on the other it's important to remember that the Allies as liberators were only for some groups. Queer zombie army is a good idea though. We could get them to follow around Mike Pence.

Nope, but I'm counting them as part of the Allies here, as they were by that point. The only differences were that some types of political prisoners were treated better and others worse on liberation, and that East Germany decriminalized homosexuality slightly earlier than the West, but that's 1968 against 1969, so they don't really get points for that.

Plus Stalin was not exactly a known progressive on LGBT rights. Possibly the shoddiest effort on that front was France though. No sodomy laws pre-WWII since 1791, but brought them in with occupation and in Vichy France, then de Gaulle got rid of all the antisemitic laws in 1945, but they kept the newly implemented anti-gay laws on the books until 1981.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article220462715.html Some fuckwit thought it'd be clever for him to burn a bunch of books in protest of the local Gay Pride event. Of course the issue being that the books he burned were from the library, and not his to burn. He literally borrowed, and then burned them. Now he's declaring he will 'never pay for them' so I guess he's going to end up going to jail for theft. Almansor posted:"Where they burn books, they will, in the end, burn human beings too."

It's even pretty weird in the US, because red was the accepted color of communism and applied to other left-wing groups on the political fringe for 50 years. Although I guess now we're getting on to 20 years of this allocation (oh god I'm old).

Yeah, while it's important to keep your expectations tempered, Republicans are knee-deep in desperate demoralization tactics now. Their main goal isn't to actually trumpet a cause or appeal to moderates, it's just to convince Democrat voters that it's pointless and that they should stay home. It's why a lot of places will report the race tightening in the weeks before the election (and I'm no scholar, but I'd have to assume that happens with most American elections) as "Huge Republican surge at the polls!" with a giant chyron saying "RED WAVE INCOMING?!" on-screen. It's also why internet chuds are hitting that stupid NPC meme so hard, and why just about every radio personality I've heard has responded to the attempted bombings of Democrats with "Look, even if it ISN'T a false flag, this is why the left needs to stop protesting and saying mean things about Trump!" Well, it's that, and in the likely event that their side loses, they won't have to pivot as hard when they inevitably go the "Democrats stole the election, they illegally stopped the red wave!" route.
