I love how much of a tenet of faith it is amongst Brexiters that Ireland is somehow desperate to return to being colonially oppressed. I mean, it's not the only complete repudiation of reality they indulge in, but it's probably the funniest

Isn't a hard border Brexit that the DUP wants a violation of the Good Friday accords? How are the Tories going to square that circle?

Zeroisanumber posted:Isn't a hard border Brexit that the DUP wants a violation of the Good Friday accords? How are the Tories going to square that circle? The GFA in no way has anything to do with the EU or presence/non presence of a hard border in Ireland beyond extremely vague commitments for the UK-Irish consultancy body to Do Its Best For Everyone Economically, presumably because EU membership and the CTA were considered to be completely settled issues that made sense as they were.

Wolfsbane posted:Ah, the "gay men have the equal right to marry a woman" argument. Convincing as ever. The current situation has existed since the adoption of the GFA. Labour at times used DUP votes to pass things, see the ID card vote, the Tories are in a similar position now albeit with slightly higher stakes. Even then I feel like a handful of reprobates like Hoey, Fields, and maybe a couple of the Lib Dems would help squeak through a Brexit Budget if the DUP dropped out and the Tories hadn't picked a new leader yet.

I am pretty sure the Lib Dems are once incinerated twice shy about propping up the conservatives. Mildly entertaining, I saw a discussion on twitter about what happens if the government can't get its budget passed. No-one is quite sure if income tax applies till repealed, or if the budget is required to authorise it's collection.
