My theory is that there are soft-hearted Liberal voters who swing to Labor whenever the Liberals loot too openly or in a way that effects them personally. Then they swing back to the Liberals one or two elections later because they’re not angry with them anymore and more inclined to buy the new snake oil they’re selling. They’re as indifferent to far-right politics as they have been the detention centres and their vote is contingent on their idea of who benefits them the most. I think we’re lucky the Liberals are currently so visibly cretinous and corrupt that they’d never have the support to fully press their libertarian/fascist policies. With a charismatic leader and decent propaganda aimed at the right people I could see us all getting properly rooted. Posted from my dunny.

Comparing our electoral system to America's where voter suppression and gerrymandering are rampant seems pointless to me. I don't know anything about Brazil but I wonder how hard it is to just do this form and make something up

The 2018 Perth by-election had a really low turnout of about 65%, compared to 95% at the 2016 election. Have the AEC actually gone to the effort of issuing 20,000 people with fines?

I missed an election once because I was working away and couldn't get mail, I called them about it, tried to get a form, forgot to follow up, didn't vote and didn't get fined. I don't know how strong the enforcement actually is for non voters.

fiery_valkyrie posted:Coal. Actually most coal plants are not dispatchable Dispatchable means it can be turned on and off quickly, big coal generators are not that - they need to burn a bunch of diesel (and time) to actually light up the coal and get to temperature. Things like gas turbines, batteries and hydro plants are what is classed as dispatchable power.

It's the incompetence that's doing them in. They look like poo poo, embarassingly so, all the loving time. They're all idiots. Bishop couldn't even take the leadership from loving Scomo.
