It's about finding that next group of core players we can win with in the next 6, 8, 10 years. Let's face it, it's hard for 20-, 21-, 22-year-olds to lead an NHL team. Look at the playoffs.

Most Australians care about those things, sure, but they're not high compared to "what's going to happen to my job", "what kind of schools are my kids going to go to" and "do I feel safe".
Hillary lost because Trump sold a narrative of US economic recovery in sectors it began abandoning in the 80s to a bunch of loving morons in swing states, while Hillary failed to provide a compelling narrative to bring her voters out beyond "you probably shouldn't let Trump win". As time has shown, she was right and he was lying, but that's all hindsight.

*A lot of this is hearsay and assumption, I am not an expert in either field.

Further to this, i think most australians are actually pretty ok with a certain level of corruption and brown paper bag economics. You want to buy a big harbourside mansion, or own a couple of maseratis, have your own private jet, spank millions up against the wall owning a sports team? Fuckin whatever. Just make sure there's enough left over so i have a realistic chance of owning the roof over my head, that i can get my kids a good education, that I'll be looked after when I'm sick without being sent into crippling debt slavery, that i earn enough to head down the pub and blow the froth off a couple without worrying about it.

My theory is that there are soft-hearted Liberal voters who swing to Labor whenever the Liberals loot too openly or in a way that effects them personally. Then they swing back to the Liberals one or two elections later because they’re not angry with them anymore and more inclined to buy the new snake oil they’re selling. They’re as indifferent to far-right politics as they have been the detention centres and their vote is contingent on their idea of who benefits them the most. I think we’re lucky the Liberals are currently so visibly cretinous and corrupt that they’d never have the support to fully press their libertarian/fascist policies. With a charismatic leader and decent propaganda aimed at the right people I could see us all getting properly rooted.

The 2018 Perth by-election had a really low turnout of about 65%, compared to 95% at the 2016 election. Have the AEC actually gone to the effort of issuing 20,000 people with fines?

I missed an election once because I was working away and couldn't get mail, I called them about it, tried to get a form, forgot to follow up, didn't vote and didn't get fined. I don't know how strong the enforcement actually is for non voters.

let's invade New Zealand, they have oil

Actually most coal plants are not dispatchable

Dispatchable means it can be turned on and off quickly, big coal generators are not that - they need to burn a bunch of diesel (and time) to actually light up the coal and get to temperature.

Things like gas turbines, batteries and hydro plants are what is classed as dispatchable power.

Alan Jones *turning crimson* STOPP SSAYYINGG THAATTTT

Also youve got it all wrong, thread. The libs won't lose the election because of the corruption. Lib voters don't care about that poo poo because they know they'd totally do the same thing if they could.

It's the incompetence that's doing them in. They look like poo poo, embarassingly so, all the loving time. They're all idiots. Bishop couldn't even take the leadership from loving Scomo. Or Dutton for that matter, so don't tell me she's any kind of operator.

They're loving morons, and it's becoming harder and harder for selfish FYGM bastards to justify letting them drive the whole show into the ground.
