Who cares about the CHUDs. There aren't nearly enough of them to save Trump in this hellish hypothetical. All thats going to happen is that we'll have a slightly larger presence on the border for a while, they'll probably catch a lot, but not all of the refugees, and send them flying back south.

Or they would just take out of context something Obama did and then go about doing the bad thing quietly once the media heat dies down. You know, like they did with kids in cages.

also, there are some pretty tight restrictions on what the military can actually do, even if the Trump administration had a clue, which they don't

an acquaintance of mine spent several months on National Guard deployment because the big dumb baby wanted to look big and strong and their responsibilities consisted pretty much of fence repair and occasionally radioing in a sighted border crossing to the Border Patrol

after the first six weeks or so where they sat around in hotel rooms playing video games and drawing deployment pay

family separation has pretty much stopped

they're still, you know, detaining asylum seeking families together, but the courts told them to knock off the "steal kids from their families" and "ideally deport the parents and separate them permanently" bits

Interesting, I remember people in D&D's vaccination thread predicting this would cause a huge backlash as parents fought against a government mandate.

Turns out the 'marketplace of ideas' is bullshit and if you want to protect kids from preventable disease you don't try to outdebate every idiot granola mom and moron bible-thumper like their anti-science position was reached through rational means or can be changed through rational argument. You just make it mandatory and turns out most people who will entertain stupid anti-science nonsense if it costs them nothing will abandon it the moment their lives are ever-so-slightly inconvenienced.

i doubt this is going to be much more lethal than regular border arrests (maybe less so, insofar as a huge, overwhelming proportion of the people who die trying to cross the border are from exposure and such, and some of the folks who are more confident in their asylum status might try to cross at regular crossings... and get detained because the administration has illegally made it impossible for them to apply for asylum at the border without unauthorized entry)

so, you know, maybe zero, maybe greater than zero, but a 'massacre' would surprise me

quote:

Tomorrow, the migrants according to FOX news reporting are more than 2 months away, if any of them actually come here. But tomorrow is 1 week before the midterm election, which is what all of this is about. There is no invasion. No one is coming to get you. There is nothing at all to worry about. When they did this to us, got us all riled up in April remember, the result was 14 arrests. We're Amerca, we can handle it. But like I said, a week to the election.

In these systems poor people suffer even when they're working properly - if more instability is finally the boot in the rear end of government to put in restrictions (lol not likely) then the direct negative effects of the downturn will hopefully be offset by the system being restricted into being less damaging all the time.

But that's basically accelerationist so take that as you will. I don't really cheer for it but I also can't help getting a small sense of satisfaction that some rich gently caress is getting their life ruined.
