It's not so much that the sizing varies a lot, but I think basically all of them use Asian sizing standards, so an M there is just way way smaller than a UK or US M. They usually have their own size chart somewhere in the description, which is pretty accurate imo if you know your measurements. I haven't bought any pushup bras either, it's just stuff like teddies, or a couple strips of glued lace, or fishnet and a couple sequins kind of thing

It’s often easier to shop online and go by the size chart than being stuck trying on three different sizes of jeans because nobody can decide what a medium means. I never really thought about buying lingerie from AE but it makes sense. Unless you go really high end it’s usually pretty flimsy anyway.

If you've shopped Amazon for trashy lingerie (the best kind), you probably saw listings for AvidLove. AvidLove has an AE storefront and from what I can tell it's the exact same at about 30-50% off Anazon prices. None of it is good quality, but it's fine for boudoir shoots, fetish parties or whatever, or times when you don't wear the clothes very long. The sizing is VERY Asian, though, so beware.
