That's just PR speak, prematurely dead is prematurely dead. If Netflix would've given them 7 seasons do you think they would've declined?

Lots of showrunners do want a show to end after an X number of years. So what did Love's showrunner say? Did he want to continue past the wedding?

The Hollywood Reporter posted:

Did you enter season three knowing it would be the final season?

Paul Rust [co-creator, Love]: We knew that it was on the table. It was definitely on our minds that we we wanted this to possibly work as a series finale.

Why was it the right time to end the journey of Love?

Rust: [...] It was a decision between myself and Judd Apatow and my wife, Lesley Arfin, who also created the show, along with conversations with Netflix.... We all agreed this would be a really great way to end the show. We wanted to be sensitive to the idea of telling this story in the amount of time that felt appropriate, and this felt appropriate.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/love-series-finale-explained-paul-rust-gillian-jacobs-gus-mickeys-wedding-1093868 (Spoilers)

So, Netflix wasn't exactly clamoring for more, but Arfin/Rust/Apatow weren't exactly pushing for more either. Further along in the interview Rust talks about an idea Apatow had for a future season, but the vibe of it (best as I can pick up in print) is "Yeah, maybe that would've been cool, but we're satisfied with this."

Now, we can get into the weeds of "WELL OF COURSE THEY'D SAY IT WAS A MUTUAL DECISION" if certain people are dead set on insisting that they were right to call it a cancelled show, but IMHO that doesn't get us anywhere that isn't utterly loving annoying to read.

Maybe. Officially it appears to have been cancelled, but Maria Bamford was pretty open about how hard the production was on her fragile mental health and that she would’ve needed “children’s hours” if Season 3 was ordered.

It's like a deliberate attempt at making avent garde art in the form of anime. The original source material is bleak and dark as hell which made it famous at the time, but in 2018 this take on "God isn't actually good" has been done to death and trying paint a coat of deep, meaningful philosophical thought over gross out violence porn doesn't really work.

Which is why it's good that Crybaby takes basically the polar opposite angle to "God isn't actually good"

Like, Crybaby is basically about how empathy is simultaneously the greatest strength and greatest weakness of humanity, and how while Christlike behavior will make your life insanely difficult and horrible, it's also worth behaving that way in spite of it because of the beauty that can still come from it.

Akira is basically the antidote to edgelord protagonists.

When it was announced that Coogler had dropped out (because he was busy with Black Panther), then that Stallone was going to be writing and probably directing, I lost all interest. Steven Caple, Jr., taking the helm and having another writer work with Stallone assuaged my fears a bit, but going back to the Rocky IV well, which is really just already empty since Rocky already defeated Russia and ended the Cold War and all that poo poo, doesn't bode well. It'll probably be a Redbox for me despite how much I love Creed.

She was great in Spartacus too.

I should rewatch Spartacus sometime soon. I remember it being one of the most satisfying ends to a show we've gotten. The show as a whole has a great run even if adjusting to Andy Whitfield's death was really tough at the time.
