Guy Goodbody posted:I kinda get the feeling that everybody in government knows it's going to be bad, and they know that if they cut a deal they'll be blamed for cutting a bad deal even though any possible deal would have to be bad because Brexit was a bad idea in the first place. And furthermore, any deal that they could cut would involve reneging on the independence they promised the British CHUDs, like stopping immigration and not having to live up to EU fruit standards or whatever. So no deal, while disastrous for the country, is the best political choice for the Tory government. I felt that one of the politically useful things about EU membership was that it allowed the national government to offload the blame for unpopular but necessary legislation onto someone else. We didn't pass that nanny state, health and safety red-tape prohibiting toxic food additives, it was those unaccountable Brussels politicians! As you say, getting a deal will be blamed on the Tories, but "No deal" can be blamed on the EU, so it gives this pantomime one final outing...

The reason brexit became a reality was because Cameron kept using it as the reason people's lives were getting poo poo. The polling for leaving the eu went from like 1% in 2010 to over 10 by the time the referendum started
