Would be cool if the US could behave like a normal state and do things such as honoring the treaties they sign, but there we are.

Something a lot of Yemen War critics (such as myself) believed was that Obama was reluctantly dragged into a stupid and disastrous war in Yemen because he felt like he owed the Saudis one after the Iran deal (which is a dead letter now anyway, so great job even if that was the motive), but this seems to suggest that Obama was at least initially far from reluctant to see (and presumably assist) the Saudis take action there.

When there is no real hope we must
mint our own. If the coin be
counterfeit it may still be passed.

Turkey started shelling the SDF in Kobane (again). The US responded in the usual way:

quote:

US special forces started patrolling on the Kobane -Turkey border after Turkish artillery strikes
@VOAKurdish
Yep, just US special forces in Syria blatantly patrolling a Kurdish city to keep NATO member and US ally Turkey from attacking Kurdish and allied forces in said city. Once again US forces are quite literally acting as humans shields because we can't figure out any other method that actually makes Turkey stop loving shelling the SDF.

Yep, this is somehow the new normal, and it's like the 8th? 10th? time this has happened by now, and none of this will be remarked upon by US media.

Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong, maybe it's better this asinine, insane series of events has a routine, predictable outcome even if it does involve US soldiers routinely being human shields for a bunch of US-friendly socialists.

Either way, welcome to the loving 21st century.:shepicide:

All the Shah's Men by Stephen Kinzer is good, though is explicit about why the Shah was bad and Mossadeq good. So, not what you're asking about but still an interesting book on the period, its really about Operation Ajax and is quite entertaining. Basically shows you the anti-Shah version, in case you needed it.
