I've still got an ebay brand petrol 'baumr' which I bought for $80 that rips through everything and always starts on the second go, (like me).

E: holy poo poo, ryobi are charging real price petrol chainsaw money for their battery version. (I was just looking it up because I thought my old man would be interested)

I got a real man's chainsaw for real work as well :)

But why would you bother firing that up to cut up a few branches? Electric for the light work, Petrol for the work that puts hair on your chest

Or you just do what I do and cut kindling with an MS361 with a 25” bar on it.

Only real reason I run the long bar is so I can cut at ground level without bending my back cos my lower back HATES chainsaws atm

Just thinking about this thing some more - asking some stuff out of curiosity as an outsider to rally stuff. Avoiding all questions about how you made it fit, I read the rules and it seems like the driveline configuration is basically a homologated configuration with some ability to get waivers. I'm assuming you guys are mostly using something like the homologated EJ20 but in what spec, and what if anything are you updating?

Put a different way - I've seen data on what the Group N builds are like, I've seen what the Rally America builds can be like, and I've seen publicly available stuff on the WRC level builds... where're you guys at?

I did a thing.......

But basically... it’s a hololigated drivetrain, stuffed in the shell. But also allowing “group A “ modifications. By the time it’s “competitive “ it will be closer to an R5 car than a group N car...

As a team we are now in that strange land between Professional and Amateur. We don’t have the backing YET, but we are rattling the cage of the bigger teams. I think this car may just do the trick.

It’s just a total animal....

There was an issue with my new axles for the front being too long, so I stuck in some old ones I cludged up....

I then did a clutch dump.... and the slightly too short axle shattered 🤪🧐. Not a biggie to sort out at my mates workshop the car lives at.

About the only time those cats get off my bed is when I change the sheets. Which given how wet it was this weekend, doing all the boring housework. Oh and....

Bathurst weekend requires mobile viewing. Cleaning up the garage so I can begin doing actual car work

Sunroof leak. Not bad but still......

*added to the long list of poo poo I need to do*

poo poo it's been a while since I bought a Subaru. Nearly a year in fact.....

And ummmm yeah I did buy another Subaru

And no that's not a fakeout. That really is my new car.

Wow. A year already?

15,000kms, hasnt missed a beat, not a thing gone wrong, stil quite a car to drive. CVT and rear shock rates still let the side down but honestly, it's been a great time with this car. I'll probably go get it cleaned and polished for a spot of cruisig next weekend. I am kinda still disappointed how the Liberty turned out but all in all, the Levorg has been a hell of a replacement and done everything I wanted.

Okay.... so no real update on the WReckX, apart from figuring out what the hell I'm going to do with it. I test fitted a few wheels to see if they would work witht he Brembos (nope) and then tried them on the spare WRX four pots (no and yes), begun the rocess of getting the wagon to be able to go back on the ground. I need to remove the gearbox, attach the steering, front brakes off so it sits on whatever wheels I have then roll it outside so the engine can come out as I have some engine bay stuff I should do.

THEN the Forester needs to come into the garage for a weekend and I change the brakes. I had been thinking about the WRX four pots buuuuut....well I have 96 2 pots that will fit with it's present wheels. May as well, it's still an upgrade. Also I'll think about a suspension swap at the same time. What to? No idea. I *kinda* want to put in coil overs and heavier sway bars. I got several sets of WRX ones so why not? I also have to think about the eventual turbo swap.

Hmmmmm. Okay sounds like a plan then

Oh god why do I even wha.....wait it's not a car!

Yeh, despite it hurting the lack of bank account badly, it's time to step the equipment up a bit esp now I'm starting to do paid work with the cameras. Three good days lined up in the next few weeks and I am hunting for more. Just.... ugh. The price of good glass and body is the price of getting past first room after the foot in the door. I've certainly done the foot in door a few times and been published etc but this time I'm picking up work via a few sites that need photographers to hire. I need the weekend work.

You know what the strange thing is now tho? For a few years every man + dog had DSLR's so the bottom fell out of the market for freelancing. But now...... well of course DSLR and mirrorless isnt really consumer market (Plus phones and tablets got a good enough for casual pics) so people who have invested in glass and bodes arent as readily availible or trying to undercut everything. Now you have the much smaller cameras that are pretty drat good for video and more casual work AND of course video but are just not anywhere good enough for sports especially... and the agent whose hired me for those days is just not able to find too many people interested AND with the equipment that will work. And okay, all day out in the sun for 400-500 a day is boring and usually quite hot and unplesant. Still....... only need another day for this year and the camera body is paid for. Also apparently the newer smaller cameras are no where near as tough or as waterproof so those cameras that do have pretty drat good performance to kinda match the big old clunkers just dont survive like the solid metal DSLR's. One good rain squall and the smaller ones die while the xD series just shrug.

True or not I cant swear to, it's been years since I went camera buying. Why would I need to, the 7D for 9 years has been drat near bulletproof.

ANNNND of course the new gear is tested on a cat first. Duh.

Dialling the ISO right up to test low light.

Backyard 100mm focal

Same spot, but 400mm focal

Another 100mm test

Same spot, 400mm

BLACK KITTY

TBH - pretty good for low light and a cat thats hard to focus on.

Ramp the ISO WAAAAAAY up ...... that wouldnt have worked on the older camera body.

I rather like that photo to be honest I has an interesting artisitic look.

(Body - Canon 7D MkII. Really not a massive imrpovement but there all these subtle touches that make for a noticably better workhorse. Lens - EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM. I've heard this lens got a huge lot improvements and yes. Yes it has. I cant say 100% given I havent set up the camera in any way for my preferences OR done anything beyond a couple of tests like above but might well be a match for the older well used workhorse F2.8 70-200 L IS USM. THAT is still a great lens to say the least ...... the 100-400 II might really replace it as the goto. If you want to use a lens for hand to hand combat the 70-200 tho is ridiculously tough, I doubt the 100-400 will cop the abuse the 70-200 has.

I also has a 24-104 L F4)

*sigh* okay well it's cool and all but loving hell ouch for the wallet. But I guess if I want the work I have to have the cameras and lenses to deliver.

Just for you a repost from the c(h)at thread -

(handheld, 1/15 shutter, ISO 2000, darkish room)

And some others -

- same, bit of processing and shrunk. 1.3sec, ISO 800, F8

No real editing, one step sharpened in post, greyscale applied to a few pics.

(Full airport gallery tomorrow)

Being a bit critical of myself here but I think in some shots like for the birds I should have shifted to a more narrow AF point. For the bigger subjects, using a 9 point cross with centre double cross style AF points really works but for smaller ones going centre point would have worked better so the camera tried to really get the focus tight. Also need to work on my depth of field when birding to really get the sharpness perfect.

I'm not a particulary artsy photographer but some of the grey tabby cat (Ed) despite the blur came out quite well. Just goes to show youdont need razor sharp to take a great photo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UG68P1RkMI - first try at video with the new camera. Yeaaaaaah handheld might not be great with a 100-400 lens and HD video.

So, finally I have some of the less exciting stuff thats not covered by Commercial in confidence.

Yes, You too will be able to have an AWD BRZ, well, the bits at least!

A Rollcage that Needs some final welding and enough Taco gussets to pay for that wall between NSW and Victoria. So many tubes. I will also admit the rear window can come out so you can get into the back of the car. You cant otherwise!

Suprisingly hard to get into a BRZ full of cage, I need a detachable steering wheel.

Quite convinient I have a full set of spare fire extingusher systems, all bolted in to see where it all goes.

I like the whole dash full-O-fuses look, Note the cage that needs more gussets. So much cage........

Access to a Toolmaker and workshop allows for some serious stupidity.

And the Car mascot, with MORE cage....

Sorry Elon, this one is getting HACKED

My mate is currently heavily involved with EV conversions, and as im currently a "Professional Race Driver" (I.E. unemployed), Ive been assigned the task of getting the stupid open source garbage working for the controllers (bleah), reconfiguring the controler files, and occasionally cool stuff like trying to get a Tesla thats been "dead" for months to come to life.

As much as I bag out Teslas as only being an application of existing tech, the stuff like pressure cast strut tops, Bonding panel edges AND being able to still spot weld them and the way they stop thin alloy panels from drumming is pretty cool. Not bad for an RC10 on steroids. The BRZ may or may not appear with some Tesla parts as well. I thin Ive collared the rear brakes off one.

And they are also as tough as an old boot. The think tanks in Detroit may say they are an overengenered chassis, but you are more lilely to walk out of a big prang in one than something made by GM or Ford. A crashed Tesla has an impressive lack of damage! (there have been a few though my mates workshop).

And Finally... So many rollcage pipes....... I actually removed some as it was getting silly.
