They just need targeting kits that you can attach to fireworks. Shoot down that drone with a semi-guided bottle-rocket.

HO HO HO! Its almost CHRISTmas time in the sleepy little town of BUDKville. Residents have procured their Xmas trees from federally protected lands in a sign of constitutional protest, cabins and bunkers have been strewn with festive 4100 lumen tactical flashlights, and everywhere the sounds of clanging katanas & the booming of homemade .410 pipe guns ring out Christian hymns & carols. All that's left is to hang up the stockings... But wait! You just realize you're all out of eggnog MRE rations! And an ice storm blew in last night and now your truck has frosted over. Well, a BUDK Man is ALWAYS prepared with a tactical ice scraper... What a harrowing experience that was, having to drive to the nearest Walmart and deal with, *shudder*, the minorities who work there. Best take a literal chill pill, my Christian God fearing friend... Ahhhhhh, sweet relief from the sweet leaf. Time to tuck yourself into bed with visions of sugarplums and self sufficiency in your head. Goodnight, sweet BUDK Man, goodnight.

Fun fact: the spread will be absolutely no different! The velocity is so high that no practical change to the barrel shape or length will actually affect the shot pattern. A sawed-off shotgun and a long-barreled hunting gun are identical in spread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2B66MQxQmE The only advantage to a blunderbuss's flared muzzle is it made it easier to reload from a moving wagon or ship. The only change you can do is make the spread tighter with a choke.

So what's the deal with making a sawed off? Just easier to carry?

Kazak posted:So what's the deal with making a sawed off? Just easier to carry? Yep. For criminals it's easier to conceal, but for legal users it's much lighter and handier. It's a good compromise for when you want to be armed while walking through the wilderness with something bigger than a handgun but smaller than a long rifle. The downsides are stronger recoil and a shorter sight radius, which makes them less accurate to shoot even if the ballistics aren't really affected. And a stockless shotgun is actually harder to use than a longer one with a stock for really no added benefit.

Sawed-offs are mostly useful because they are easier to maneuver indoors. The restrictions against them in the US date back to super racist 1930s laws meant to keep concealable weapons out of the hands of minorities and the poor that have never been taken off the books.

short barrels are cool because you get to say "I like to keep this for close encounters" every time you whip them out and you can't do it with regular shotguns.
