She did say she would do anything and wants to be his strength...

In all seriousness, the likely explanation is simply bad timing. The next circle hadn't produced a Labyrinth yet, so Feene decided to take the chance and head back home to shore up defenses or visit family or whatever she's doing. While she's away the Labyrinth springs up and they can't wait for Feene to get back. Despite my farting around with bond events and writing LP Wake as being in charge of when the group rolls out, the story acts like the group heads out immediately after getting authorization. Usually that means 10am the following morning. I guess it would take a few days for Feene to get back from the continent. The game doesn't do a good job of establishing times. It's hard to tell how long it takes to travel to places in this world.

Well, remember the cutscene for going to the Lust dungeon:

That looks distinctly like it's doing at least a suborbital hop, which would tend to indicate they could go anywhere on the planet in hours. So if they needed Feene they could send that thing to pick her up and bring her back overnight then deploy in the morning. But they've got the other six heroines already and they're only taking one into the Dusk Circle, so I think it very likely that Ruby or Alec or someone decided that Feene really does need a vacation so let's not call her right now because you know she would insist on coming.

Psycho Knight posted:

All the sin stuff assumes that the game actually does something with it, which it doesn't. Which is unfortunate because they have a good set up with the heroines. Serina could be envy, do to her wanting to look 'like an S-Rank should', for example. It doesn't quite map out, but it could.

There are a bunch of characters in this game that click with the 7 Deadly Sins motif really really well, but then some of the sins don't really match with anyone. I can't really think of anyone that would match Sloth for example, but Pride and Envy match with quite a few.

It seems like they wanted this to be a plot thing, but dropped it due to time constraints. Or it is a remnant of a previous script that they didn't bother to change. Who knows.

Well, like I'd said previously, if the dungeons are the Sins, then the Heroines should presumably be the Virtues. That's a little closer but so far I've got nothing for Serina, Fuuko, and Torri.

As for Alec not coming, I figure that he'd probably be left unable to use any significant quantity of Star Energy and be stuck with just his sword, and while that would likely be useful (even if they can't be killed without Star Energy clearly the swords can damage their bodies and let the heroine finish them off at her leisure) it wouldn't be nearly as useful as he is when he's on the wall, and he'd be left fairly vulnerable. So it'd be risking their second-best male Disciple for questionable benefit.

In any other setting this makes sense. However we've already seen that Ruby was happy to put the Gods Gift and an S rank disciple in danger for literally no benefit in the first dungeon. With that in mind, it's a miracle that all the S ranks weren't sent on suicide missions into the labryinths to gather data or some such nonsense.

Actually interested in what happens next, hope next update comes soon! I know I'll never play this game so this is how I'll know.

Let's throw a Medicham into a volcano and make it give the T2 thumbs up!
~Update 8.5 (Bonding with Torri): She's so cold and human; It's something humans do~

Essays and projects all due the same day, spent Saturday and Sunday at work in the wind and rain, Daylight Saving Time ends, power outage from noon to midnight yesterday (really appreciated the pitch black with all that school work to do), and now the nap I took during the outage combined with DST has my sleep schedule hosed seven different ways. November is off to such an amazing start. Sure can't wait for the rest of the month! :shepicide:

Welcome back everyone. I apologize for the longer than usual gap in updates. It's now time for a regularly scheduled story break. We've got a new party member on board and she needs a little attention.

Before that, however, everyone should welcome our new Team A(wful).

Blacksmith got the most votes, and user Sword of Dusk once again provided the name. Adrienne the Blacksmith will be the new leader of Team A(wful). Her mother is Chloe. Chloe was the only one that could give me Blacksmith, but that's fine with me since she was left out of the mommy fun in Team A(wful) 1.0.

Backing her up, we have Caine the Ether Sniper. No name suggestions here, so I named him after Caine the Longshot from Trigun (Anime). Caine's mom is Narika, since she was the only one able to give me Ether Sniper.

I also gave Caine an Attack Boost Matryoshka, just to show off that they each have different little designs along the bottom.

Rounding out the group is Aria the Hunter. This was a random generator name. I couldn't think of any notable female Video Game/Anime hunters at the time. Then while writing this post I realized I should have gone with 'Aloy', from Horizon: Zero Dawn. drat it. Serina is the mom because her stat spread is the only one even remotely close to a match for Hunters.

New Team A(wful) is a hell of a lot more unbalanced than their predecessors. They'll hit like a truck, whenever they manage to get a turn anyway. Skill wise I think they will make up for the lack in speed though. Hunter and Blacksmith classes are a bit more on the technical side.

The new team will be replacing Felicia, Luna, and Seth. Those three have served us well, and they will continue to serve us well because I'm shifting them to the Team C slot semi-permanently.

See, I'm kind of just loving with the game at this point, so I'm planning on keeping our first thread team around as an experiment. I'm interested to see exactly how far into the game I can bring them. How long will it take before they simply can't survive in battle against the monsters?

So they aren't going anywhere, they'll just be taking a back seat until they hit a point where the only thing they can really do is heal and stay alive.

After that, I do some shifting around. I give independence to all of the Star Children above level 1, put a Minstrel in Team B, add in a Mercenary, then make a Lancer the leader of Team Manly Man. Some of the Star Children give gifts when they gain independence as well. In this round of inventory clearing, they gave me a bunch of Stat Fruits. Thanks guys! The increased city level opens a few more items and gifts, but we'll talk about those another time.

Anyway, let's talk about Torri. I'm going to be straight with you. Torri is our Rei Ayanami for the game, sort of. I can't really get into a big spiel about who Rei Ayanami is and why she is the poster girl for her archetype, for.... reasons. My guess is that if you're reading this thread, then you probably have at least a basic knowledge of her.

All you really need to know is that Torri is that, except she's not quite as emotionless as this type of character usually is. Nevertheless, that's largely what you're in for with her. Just a heads up.

Torri, there you are.

Oh, it's Wake. Hello. Do you need me?

Need is a strong word. I just wanted to introduce myself, since we're going to be Classmating and all that noise.

What a proper greeting! Good!

I'll be proper, too. Let's both you and me play our parts! I'm looking forward to Classmating. Anytime is OK!

Glad to see you've got the enthusiasm.

Is that all you needed? Is it OK if I go back to my seat now?

I'm going to look out the window now, at the sky. The clouds are calling me.

...I guess? I've never really given it any thought.

OK. Well, I love the fluff. OK then, goodbye.

*Torri walks like, two feet away and just stands there*

Riiight. Goodbye, then.

(She's a weird one, alright.)

This next part is just one of the random filler events, but I'm including it because a lot of Torri's bonding stuff in this update is very to the point.

-Hallway-

Oh, hey Torri. Waiting for something?

Go for it.

What kind of person is Alec?

Eh, we had some problems recently, but I think we've sorted everything out. We're cool with each other now, so I think he's a pretty cool guy.

My classmates were saying Alec's scary. That he's an amazing Disciple, but he's too scary to talk to.

They also said he didn't blink when he found out what the monster was...

Your classmates are idiots, Torri. I was there when it happened, and Alec was definitely as shocked as the rest of us when we all figured it out. He's not a bad guy, even if he is a bit of a jerk sometimes.

Mmhm, I think so too. I haven't really talked to Alec much, but I wasn't scared of him when I did. I'm glad you think the same way.

I also included it because it has to do with Alec, and he's our bud now.

Time to get Torri acquainted with Classmating.

-Ritual Hall-

Ready to try out Classmating, Torri?

OK.

That was surprisingly straightforward... Are you sure?

Yes. I'm ready. Are you?

I'm good. I'm used to it all at this point.

Don't worry about it. There isn't much you have to do. I think I have to deal with the worst of it.

OK. I'll follow your lead. Just show me the steps.

Alright, show me if you know the first step.

OK. If I remember, I'm supposed to reach out to you first. I touch you like this, and then say, "Hmmmm," while thinking deeply.

Right. That's... technically what happens, I guess. Not quite sure you're really understanding it though.

Whatever, it's probably fine.

Torri didn't have the stats needed to open any new classes at first, even after I got her to level 10 (she starts at 6). This changed later on, in a big way (which we'll get to see in this update), and she then had the stats to create Ranger.

Ranger is kind of a mixed class. They have the same weird stat distribution as Torri, but they get a small mix of skills. They get Heal right off the bat for example, which is pretty handy if you don't want to run a Cleric.

Ranger wasn't included in the Team A(wful) voting this time. There were already a bunch of new classes to pick from, and I want to save some new ones for the next Chapter.

You did fine, Torri. Look, the Star Child turned out fine.

That's a good thank-you. I'll give you one in return.

I didn't know Classmating was so amazing. It took me by surprise! I want to see the Star Children more. So take me to the Labyrinth next time.

Oh, don't worry. You'll get your time in the Labyrinth.

That's true? You'll really take me with you?

Everyone gets training time in the Labyrinth. I need to know what you're capable of.

Good! OK, is this all you needed?

Yep, that's it for now. I'll get in touch with you when it's time for practice.

Ok, goodbye.

That was pretty cut and dry. At least Torri is easy to deal with. Barely any of that "Oh my god! Is the Star Child hideously deformed!?" stuff that the others were getting on with.

While we're here, let's talk about some of the new Matryoshka's that were picked up during dungeon runs.

Matryoshka WN - Gives the Star Child the Wind Element.
Matryoshka WT - Gives them the Water Element.
Matryoshka ET - Gives them Earth Element.
Matryoshka FR - Gives them Fire Element.
Matryoshka MDF - Gives them extra Magic Defense.
Matryoshka MAT - Gives them extra Magic Attack.
Matryoshka DF - Extra Defense.
Matryoshka AT - Extra Attack.
Matryoshka LC - Extra Luck.

It's all simple stuff. You just choose a Matryoshka based on what kind of stat bump you want to give them, or if you want them to have a certain element.

That being said, there isn't much use in bumping the MAT Stat if the Star Child you plan to make is a physical attacker.

Sure, doing that would still boost the Team's MAT stat overall, so it would contribute to a Mage on the team and make their magic more effective. However, if you make a team that's heavily focused on ATK and one of the physical heavy Star Children has a MAT boost, then it's kind of being wasted.

Of course, DEF and MDF boosts are useful on anyone. Every Star Child can benefit from stronger defenses.

Anyway, none of these are particularly hard to find. There's RNG involved with the treasure chests, but you should be able to snag a few during grinding or quest stuff.

[Male Disciple B]: They either get sent abroad or end up in the hospitals with injuries.

:argh: That's because your drat supply lines are lacking and you apparently don't have medical evacuation teams! Maybe if you morons had voted for any plan other than Sasami's!

Sorry. That sub-plot is still really bugging the poo poo out of me.

[Male Disciple A]: The same could happen to us tomorrow... I gotta say, I'm worried.

[Male Disciple B]: It'll be fine! I'm sure the S Ranks will do something about it.

(These loving assholes. One day we're horrifying murderers, and the next we're their personal security team. I hate this place. If it wasn't for that lady running the AngelMarker Quest Board, and the S-Ranks... and Chlotz I guess... then I'd let this place burn.)

Hello. Did you come to see me?

Oh, Torri. Yes. I wanted to learn a bit more about you.

Really? Do you want to see the results of my physical exam?

Weight, height, and so on... Lots of things about me are written here!

No, Torri, that's not--

Really, Official Wake? The only two real responses here are "gently caress yeah!" and "I have no interest at all"? Screw that. Take the middle ground.

I mean, it can be pretty fun to think about sometimes.

Huh... Men fantasize about very interesting things!

That's not what I meant when I said I wanted to know more about you, Torri. I'm not Chlotz for Star God's sake. I actually have self control, and tact... okay, well I have self control.

It wasn't? Strange! I thought actual numbers would be easier for you to understand. Did I make a mistake? I'm sorry.

No, Torri. You didn't... *sigh* I just wanted to chat, okay?

Oh, that makes sense! OK then.

Alright, conversation is back on track then.

You seem to really like that spot. I see you sitting there staring out the window a lot.

Uh-uh. I don't like this place right now.

"Right now"? What do you mean?

But it is closed right now, which means this is scenario A.

Riiight.

It's not complicated. It's very simple.

Yes, Torri. It's very simple.

Wake... Are you just agreeing with whatever I say?

No, Torri. I understand the concept of scenarios.

Even my classmates often say that I'm strange. Which seems strange to me.

My cleaning chores are complete, so my work for today is all finished. The Magecraft Club does not meet today, so all that's left is to go home and sleep.

Yes, Torri. I understand how growth works.

I can't wait to get bigger faster.

Don't get ahead of yourself. I don't want another Serina on my hands.

It's too early to sleep, anyway. Why don't you come with me and we get something to eat? Take that whole "getting bigger" thing one step at a time.

OK.

That reminds me. I was hungry!

Did you know that when you're hungry, your mind and body slow down?

Then let's go eat.

*yawn* I'm starting to get sleepy...

*sigh* Come on, march. I'm not letting you sleep here in the middle of the classroom.

OK. Let's go.

-Downtown-

Ooh... There's a bunch of things here.

Look! There's tons of stores over here, too! Just wow!

Torri! Stop darting around like that!

(God, it's like trying to corral the Star Children. Maybe Enzea was on to something with that toddler leash idea.)

Hello there!

Takoyaki? Is this takoyaki? I've never seen it before, but it looks good!

I'll take two, please. Quick.

Thanks, and enjoy!

A little on the intense side it appears, but at least he seems like a really courteous dude. Rock on, takoyaki guy.

I'm really good at monster slaying, what can I say? And no, I'm not eating them both. Here.

Huh? Wow. Are you giving one of them to me?

If it keeps you still for five minutes, then yes.

I don't have any allowance left this month, so I thought I'd go hungry. I was going to just watch you while nibbling on my finger.

The hell, Torri? I thought Ruby was supposed to be looking after you? Does she not feed you or something?

Then again, I guess I shouldn't be shocked about that possibility.

That's so good! I really have to give you a proper thank-you. "Thank you very much for the takoyaki."

Don't ask me why Torri puts certain sentences in quotation marks. I don't recall an explanation for that. It may just be part of her 'quirkiness'.

It's fine, Torri. It's yours. Eat it whenever you want to,

OK! Then here goes me eating it! Ooh, it's hot. Very hot! *much* *munch* Mm, sho good! Ish sho good!

...Oh no! It was so good that I ate it all. I'm sorry I didn't wait for you.

'Ate' is a bit of an understatement. You basically inhaled that thing.

Do you think I'll get bigger now?

Keep eating like that and you'll definitely get bigger, at least in one sense of the word.

OK. Thanks. You're a good person. This was a good day. Mm-hm. My stomach's full now, so it's time I go home to sleep a bit.

*Torri leaves*

(In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have said that. She seems to have a habit of taking things literally.)

She's certainly going to be a handful.

-Redux-

Go ahead and show me what you've got, Torri.

I was told by the others that you require a phrase to be recited. What phrase must I recite?

I need to see you transform before I can figure that out. Don't worry, you'll get one in due time. Now come on, let's see it.

Very well.

:siren:Typical NSFW warning goes here, although Torri's is actually not bad at all. It's similar to Serina's in the sense that there aren't any creepy closeups.
Torri Transformation

Torri gets a 'ring of light' style transformation. The kind where a glowy ring scans over her body and the costume just materializes.

The costume change portion is a lot like Serina's. It's incredibly brief and thankfully doesn't linger on any parts of her body.

Torri's design is a shout-out to Monokuma, from Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa series. She has the same black/white divide, along with red eyes. I assume that's what they were going for anyway. Maybe it was just a massive coincidence.

And of course because she's the small weird/quirky/supernatural/otherworldly girl, she has to have the largest Dusk Breaker. In this case a big gently caress-off Gatling gun that looks like it weighs twice as much as she does and is roughly the same height.

This is a trope I don't really like. It's kind of cool on rare occasions (I think it worked fairly well with Gretel in Black Lagoon), or funny in a juxtaposition kind of way, but I usually just end up rolling my eyes whenever it does crop up. It's one of those things where it looks like they are trying too hard to make this little girl 'cool' or 'intimidating'.

It makes no loving sense here, either. Despite the fact that Torri is wielding a gun you'd typically see mounted on a Missile Destroyer, she is actually the fastest of the heroines. Not only that, ATK is somehow her worst stat. I think the only heroine with a lower ATK than Torri is Serina. Chloe is about even, and Ellie (the girl using a magical girl staff and whom also has ATK as her lowest stat) still hits harder than Torri.

Torri's stats are all over the drat place. Her TEC and LUC are average. Her ATK is tied for worst in the game. Her MAT is almost just as bad as her ATK. Yet she's fast as poo poo and can take a beating both physically and magically.

What do you even call that build? She's not a fragile speedster, because she has crazy defenses. She isn't a mighty glacier, because she has the highest speed. Is there a word that isn't coming to my mind right now which describes a very fast, very durable character that hits like a newborn kitten?

Is that acceptable?

How... exactly are you carrying that thing?

Are you referring to my Dusk Breaker? It's very light, so it's easy to carry.

...Right.

(Black and white color motif, huge-rear end Gatling gun, blank expression... what in the hell am I going to do with her!? There's no theme! I need more research, or another generic catch-phrase...)

Is something the matter?

Hm? Oh, no. I tend to get lost in thought during these sessions. I ju--

Torri?

Yes?

Why are you missing a shoe?

Oh, I seem to have forgotten it. That is very strange.

How do you forget a piece of your costume? You can make it materialize on you.

*sigh* Never mind. Forget it. You do you. Let's break for now. I'll meet up with you later.

Very well.

(Just when I manage to get Ellie settled, Torri comes right along and replaces her. This is a total disaster.)

-1st-Year Classroom-

Hey, Torri. Magecraft Club not meeting today?

The Magecraft Club is off until tomorrow.

The Magecraft Club is something Torri joined at some point. It's basically Robotics Club. They make golems and equipment which run on Star Energy. The database says that it has been in operation since the Academy was founded.

If that's the case, then why don't we go back together?

Go back together? Back to where?

I mean back home.

But that would be strange...

Me asking you that is strange?

No, not that. I'm glad that you asked me. I usually go home alone. I'd watch my other friends go home together and always thought it was nice.

I'd love to go home with someone some day.

Okay. So then why is me asking you to do just that considered strange?

So, if you're going home with me, does that mean I'll be living with you now? No one told me anything about that. That's why I thought it was strange.

That's not what that expression means, Torri. It means I'm asking you to walk back part of the way together, then split off to go to our own homes.

Ohh, so that's what you meant.

I literally thought you would be living with me in my home, so I was surprised. And I don't have any pajamas or underwear for men, so I didn't know what to do.

I was worried that my allowance wouldn't be enough to buy new clothes.

What was Enzea thinking, leaving you in Ruby's care? It's like you need constant supervision.

...I'm sorry I made a mistake.

Don't worry about it. It's your so called 'guardians' that I'm ticked off with.

OK. You really are a good person.

Well then, are we going home together part of the way? That sounds good. I have to take the class journal to the teacher's office. Can you wait here?

*And so Torri wanders off to god knows where. Wake waits*

She sure is taking her time. She better not have gotten distracted by a vending machine or something.

*Torri rushes in*

*pant* *pant* Whew... I'm sorry. Were you waiting long?

No, it's fine. Don't sweat it.

Then, shall we go home together? That would be so good!

-Downtown-

Sorry we're not taking the usual route. I needed to swing by a few shops.

That's good too! I usually don't come this way. It's a nice change of pace.

Looks like some of the places are closed up because of damage. Must have been a monster roaming around here recently.

(Note to self: Investigate Sasami as possible culprit behind increased monster activity.)

You want to get some more of it?

No, that's OK. Ooh, over there! A jewelry shop! These glittering accessories are so cute... and so pretty...

Slow your roll there, food is one thing but jewelry is out of the question. If you want earrings or something then I can dig some out of the gift pile back in my dorm room.

Ooh, there's more shops over here!

*Torri loving books it*

(drat money grubbing little-)

Wait! Torri!? Where the hell did she go!? You have got to be kidding me...

drat it, I have to track her down.

-Forest-

.....

*pant* *pant* There you are. How did you manage to get all the way out here in such a short amount of time? The hell are you made of?

Oh... What's the matter? There's spiderwebs all over your hair.

You're one to talk. You've got your share of them too. Here, let me get them out. Hold still.

It's OK. It doesn't bother me. Never mind that, just look.

Yeah, that's a bird's nest all right. There's some baby chicks peeking out of it, too. Pretty sharp eye you've got there.

Mmhmm. I'm proud of my good eyesight. It helps me see the birdies better.

The birdies are so cute.

Got a thing for birds, huh?

Mm-hm. They're cute. And I like them for other reasons, too.

And those other reasons would be...?

...Oh, it's nothing.

It wouldn't be good if the birdies saw us and got scared. So I'm going home.

Works for me. I need to take a shower and gets these drat webs out of my hair.

And that wraps Torri's formal introduction. As mentioned previously, Torri will be part of the big vote at the end of Chapter 4. We still need to get Feene on board before we start thinking about maybe benching Chloe, Narika, or Ellie.

Before we go, there's a matter we have to discuss. It's about Difficulty Curve.

Two new sub-Labyrinths are open, and one of them contains a very special quest.

If you've been following the LP from the start, you know that I didn't so much as break the Difficulty Curve's spine, as it stumbled backward and fell onto my knee. It's kind of sad. Its just been kind of laying there in a crumpled heap, every now and again making a futile swipe.

The choice is, do you take pity on poor Difficulty Curve? Maybe stay at its side, wait for it to heal up, maybe see if it can recover enough to be able to take a genuine swing at you. Who knows? Maybe it can bounce back from the first two dungeons and really surprise you?

Or do you strap on your steel toed boots and gently caress its poo poo up?

If you're playing the Steam version that has all the DLC included, then you have a choice to make. Vita/3DS players don't get this choice since the DLC has apparently been taken offline.

drat right it will, Felicia.

This was carried out before the Team A(wful) replacement by the way. This is how Torri came to get the stats necessary to create Rangers.

Anyway, Torri is rocking with us this time. Chloe has dibs on Chapter 3's story dungeon, Narika and Ellie had their turns, Fuuko got most of the Prologue section, and screw Serina.

Drowning Sea is where you can get access to the first of the EXP Grinding DLC quests. You pick them up from the AngelMarker Lab board.

The dungeon is nothing special outside of that. You can get Mercenary Manual drops here as well, but the enemy line-up is largely the same as every other dungeon. Some notable things did happen during this trip though.

For one thing, I ran into a dungeon trap. Dungeon traps are little circular spots on the floor that are currently invisible until you hit them. Certain Star Children classes can get skills that make them visible later on.

This particular trap hid the strength of enemies on this floor, which causes them to show up as grey versions.

You can also see that a little caution ring shows up to tell you where the trap you ran into is, so that you don't run into it over and over again like a dumb rear end.

The other notable thing is that a purple trap chest finally hit me with a drat trap! I only had to open like 150 of the things before it happened.

This is one of the more annoying variety of chest traps. Not because it might be dangerous if your HP is low or something. It's mainly because it's annoying to have to kill every single thing in the room just to leave.

Every enemy in this dungeon is small fry compared to Sagitta. I avoided them whenever I could, so this trap was really irritating.

Finally, something popped up that I must have skipped over this entire time, likely due to me constantly speeding through battle as fast as possible.

Every now and then, one of the heroines you didn't take with you will send you a message that you can answer. Answering it uses Wake's turn, but it provides BP if you do it. This time it was Ellie, here is what she has to say:

Unfortunately, I was not asked to enter the Labyrinth today. Are you worried about taking me with you because I'm so tiny? I know I might not look powerful, but I'm still an S Rank. Please, don't worry about taking me with you. I may even surprise you in battle. The Star Children are small, and they're very strong too. I've never believed that strength and size are always related. Speaking of the Star Children... Um... I'm also up for Classmating whenever, too. Anyway, please don't be modest. You can ask me to do a lot of things with you. I'll follow you into the Labyrinth or into Hell itself. I'll go wherever you go. Well, I hope to see you at the Academy. --Ellie.

Hot drat, that was a lot of redundant words. All the heroines are capable of sending a message. Some of them just write words of support or tell you that they are worried about you, others (such as Ellie) try and guilt trip you into taking them along in the Labyrinth next time.

That's not important. This is the guy we're on the hunt for. They show up on Floor 5, so getting to them the first time takes a fair amount of time, but from now on you can just start on this Floor whenever you go back in.

These adorable little gift store plushies are called Sagitta. They are pretty fast, which impedes your ability to Chain them, but managing to do that is only extra icing on top of the cake.

Other than speed, these guys don't have much going for them. They aren't meant to be a threat. They are meant for one thing and one thing only...

Sweet, sweet EXP. Look at that bullshit. Beelzebub, the drat boss of chapter 2, forked out 400 exp. The monsters in this dungeon only give out about 90 to 110. This 30-second battle paid out as much experience as me fighting 54 battles with standard enemies.

Wake gained 1 level, while Torri shot up by 5. I tested this afterward with our level 1 Star Children that were voted the new Team A(wful), and they all gained 16 levels from this one battle.

That's insane. I will be making limited use of this quest, mainly to save time and give new Star Children a running start. If you wanted to abuse this though, then the Difficulty Curve we chewed up and spit out can be then turned into a smooth paste.

This isn't the only EXP grinding mission, either. There are more of these things with higher level variants that drop more EXP. These quests are also repeatable, and you can fight 10 groups of them before needing to go turn in and re-accept the quest.

Next time, we do a quick update on our three focus heroines. That way I won't need to dump it all at once at the end of the chapter.

Torri must remain in her Normal outfit. Anything else just looks weird.

And that takoyaki guy's face. . .Jesus.

Torri should stay Normal.

Or, uh, in her usual outfit. Normal's a bit of a stretch word for her, apparently.

Normal outfit.

She doesn't get pink hair in her alt outfit to match with her clothes, so what's the point :colbert:?

KP? Come on SC, what the hell? It's two freaking letters! K isn't even next to B on the keyboard!

Normal.

Yeah this is basically what I was expecting out of Torri, though Angel Marker really should grab some random employee and assign them to just follow her around all the time and make sure she eats and suchlike.

Also I think when her dialogue is in quotation marks it's meant to imply she sounds like she's quoting someone. Specifically like her previous minder had an exchange like so:

"Torri, when someone gives you food you need to thank them."
"Thank?"
"Say 'thank you for the takiyoki', Torri."
"Thank you for the takiyoki, Torri."
"No, I mean..."

Yeah, Liz was an adult with weird ideas about how the world works. Torri comes off as developmentally damaged, which makes the whole 'classmating' thing a whole lot worse. The veil of metaphor doesn't make it less hosed up.

Dammit, I was going to say something, but I really should hold it back for the character round up at the end of the LP. I have so much I want to say on characters. So many terribly biased and opinionated things.

I had the same thought process, but we haven't really been told anything about how Torri was raised. I can't even remember if we do get told anything. Reciting teachings from memory seems like the most obvious answer for the quotation marks though, like she is just sourcing quotes in real time.

Either way, it's not a big thing. I think it's just largely there to make her more strange or quirky, like the way she always uses 'OK' in place of 'Okay'.

It's such a wasted opportunity. If you're going to go with that kind of stark colour difference, then go whole hog and change the hair colour too. Even if it's just for the 3D model. drat it, why couldn't this game have more open file access? So many changes that could be made for the better.

Also, can someone tie her hair together? It's hard to see unless she turns around, but her hair fans out into two big strands that leaves a huge gap in the middle. It's like she has invisible separators keeping them apart, or is using an insane amount of hair gel. Bothers me so much.

Yeah Normal outfit for Torri.

I've only played up to the next story dungeon of the game, but not much really endeared me to Torri. She's okay, but just doesn't stand out character wise despite her goofy as heck appearance.

Like she's not terrible or anything. She just isn't that interesting, at least initially.

~Bonding Focus: Chapter 3 (Part 1): Ellie, Narika, Chloe~

We've caught up with Torri, but that's as far as we're going with her route for now. You'll get the chance to decide on her as Focus Heroine at the end of the next chapter, after Feene has completed the group.

In the mean time, we should stay on top of the three routes we are currently focusing on. These are a bit lighter than the others, so I should be able to fit them all into one post. Then we can get back to the story for a little bit.

-Ritual Hall-

To start with, we need to trigger another Classmating Scene.

I'll always be happy to perform the ritual with you.

Oh... I guess saying things like that is a bit uncouth. The ritual is sacred business. I should be more respectful.

Well, at least you're having fun with it.

There's no way I could hate this! I'm going to think about how you saved me in the past while we do the ritual today... I'd like it if that helped, too...

If you think it will help. Not really sure how things work from your guys perspective.

W-Well, then, let's do this!

*Then classmating happens. No new classes to show off yet*

*gasp* *gasp*

Um... Did we create a strong Star Child?

It's fine Ellie, don't be so worried.

I'm glad to hear that. It's probably because you remembered who I am...

That is how all of this works.

Wake... Thank you so much for remembering me... I'll continue to do my best during the rituals.

The Classmating Scenes aren't as involved this time around. Not much I can really add to them. Also, anything Ellie related is just really hard to write for.

So let's do more!

-School Gate-

I have to hurry home and fix the leak in the roof!

Hey, Ellie. On your way home?

Oh, yes. I have to fix a leak in my roof before it starts raining.

*sigh* I wonder why that apartment's so shabby...

Wait, you live in an apartment?

That's right. Gracia is renting it to make it easier for me to do my work for the Church.

About that... aren't you supposed to be keeping that a secret?

Message received. I won't press you on it.

(I've got Zorro doing that for me...)

Anyway, do you need help fixing that leak?

Oh no, I can't trouble you!

It's fine. Just let me help out. If both of us work on it then we can get it done before it starts raining. Come on.

Ah... You're going the wrong way! It's this way!

Oh, right. Sorry.

Hey, I've got a lot going on in my life, okay?

Hm... All right. I'll accept your help.

-Apartment-

So this is where you live, huh?

I-I'm sorry it's such a dump...

This place doesn't stand out? Ellie, it's got huge decorative archways and a grand staircase lined in red carpet. This place is cool.

Y-You think?

Yeah. Now let's get to the leak so we can keep it that way. Where is it?

Aheheh... Everywhere, actually.

Excuse me?

But for now, it'll be okay if we fix the one in the bedroom. I'm the only one who lives here, after all.

You're the only one here? In this place?

(What a waste. I have to scope this place out while I have the chance. Come back once this whole Dusk Circle thing dies down, fix it up a little maybe, and flip the poo poo out of it.)

Um, I've already bought a tarp, so all we need to do is go put it in the attic. Let's set up the tarp there.

Can do. Where is your room?

Oh... R-Right... You'll need to go into my room.

Something wrong?

N-Not really, no...

Hmmmmm... If I refuse now, he'll suspect that I'm hiding something there... I guess it would be better to show him how it is than for him to think that...

You want to stop muttering to yourself? If there's no problem, then let's get a move on. Rain isn't going to wait.

Waaah! P-Please, wait a second! A-At least give me some time! I need to mentally prepare myself!

-Ellie's Room-

Huh, so this is where you hang out.

I-I'll go make some tea.

Nah, that can wait. We need to take care of the leak first.

R-Right... You can get up into the attic from above the bed.

Alright, I should be able to get up there. You want to grab the tarp for me?

U-Um... I'm sorry my room's like this! This is nothing like a girl's room should be...

You'd want a girl more like that... right?

I think it fits you pretty well as is, actually.

I see... So this is what you'd always thought my room would be like... I get it...

Well, yeah. You're a member of the Church. Isn't there like, a vow of perpetual poverty or something? I help out collecting money for orphans with Narika. No offence, but I'd be pretty pissed if I walked in here and found out that money was being blown so you could live in luxury.

But hey, if it bothers you that much, then why don't we go shopping sometime?

Huh? With you...?

I lived in a room like this the entire time I was at Gracia... I've never really been around things that are cute.

Good thing you didn't go with me into the Drowning Sea Labyrinth then.

Hm? Why not?

Uhh... no reason. Anyway, I'd be happy to let you experience it if that's what you want.

It'd make me happy if you helped me choose some.

Sure, although I think you might end up regretting that once I start picking stuff out.

First things first, though. Tarp time.

Yes! Thank you! Let's patch this up quickly, before it starts raining.

*Tim Allen grunt*

-Ellie's Apartment-

Thank you for helping me today. The leak in my room's been dealt with now.

We just did a quick patch job. I'll swing by another day and fix it properly.

Oh, no, I can't cause you any more trouble. I'll fix everything myself when I have the time. I'll be okay.

...Ah, that reminds me. I tried making candied Num-Num Nuts... Would you like to try one?

Oh yeah, you said you were going to try that. Sure, I could go for a snack.

I did make you a promise, after all. Wait right here. I'll go get them.

*Ellie runs off, then returns shortly after with treats*

Whew. Sorry about the wait.

Um... I don't know if these are any good, since I can't taste them. Still, I really want you to eat it, so... Um...

Hey, I said I'd try one. Let me have it.

Open your mouth, then. Your hands are all dirty from working in the attic...

Uh... Sure, I guess. Like this?

Y-Yes...

Here you go.

H-How does it taste?

It's incredibly sweet.

I'm sorry! I must've used too much sugar... I'll try making it less sweet next time!

Nah, it's fine like this. I like it. Thanks, Ellie.

Aww... I'll keep doing my best!

Everything from searching the Labyrinths to making Star Children... I want you to be able to depend on me!

That goes for you too, you know. Seriously, if you need help fixing the other leaks, let me know.

Any time is okay with me, so let's go whenever you want...

Sure thing. See you later.

Mmhmmm! Good-bye. Oh... Do you have an umbrella? It's already raining outside.

No, I didn't bring one. It'll be fine. A little rain won't hurt.

Heehee, you shouldn't worry so much about other people's leaks. My umbrella's by the door, so please take it with you. You can give it back to me whenever.

Alright, that takes care of Ellie. Wake got to play the handyman, and we got to check out the minimalist Church life that Ellie lives. Makes me wonder why they don't just have her in the Dorms though. The church is specifically stated to give out specialty assignments to Disciples from time to time. Sure, she may not be able to talk about her work, but surely Mattero would be aware of it and she would have special permission to come and go from the Dorms as she pleases.

Then again, I'm not quite sure where the Dorms and Ellie's apartment are located in relation to each other. Maybe they want the Disciples they have on assignment to stay somewhere closer to transit hubs or something. Those dorms do look a bit secluded from the city.

-Ritual Hall-

Time to start the cycle of bonding anew, this time with Narika.

So? Feeling a little more comfortable with this now?

I think so. At least a little bit.

Good to hear. I was starting to think I was being really intimidating or something.

N-Not at all. It's all in my head...

The Classmating ritual comes from the joining of two people's emotions... We need to be closer to get better at the ritual.

I'll... try not to be as nervous. I promise I'll try harder...

That's the spirit. Trying your best is all I'm asking for from you guys.

*Classmating happens. Still not showing any new classes*

*pant* Whew...

So how did it go this time?

I still tense up.

There's no need to rush it. Not sure if you've noticed, but the Star Children have been handling the Labyrinths pretty well so far.

Yes, of course.

And that's it. Let's move on to the good stuff, and by that I mean a Narika event that does not contain Sasami.

-2nd-Year Classroom

Wake...?

Hm? Oh, hey Narika. Something on your mind?

Would it be all right if you came with me around the city today?

Well, I don't mind. What brought this on?

Remember how I asked everyone in class for ideas for the Strategy Conference?

Unfortunately. One guy suggested a beauty pageant at the Field Hospital to raise morale. I'm sure a bunch of busted up and bed ridden Disciples would have loved that. Don't get me started on the one that suggested hiring professional chefs to improve the food. Not exactly a prime selection of ideas.

It seems that the classes present new plans for each Conference. I really thought it sounded like there were three rounds of debate on one plan, which would eventually be chosen to represent the school in the big Conference with the Government and everything. Oh well.

No, they weren't. I'm trying to think of a good idea myself, but...

I haven't been having any luck. So I thought a change of pace might help.

Sounds like a plan. Sometimes all you need is a change in environment.

I knew you'd agree.

What do you have in mind? Curaoke, maybe?

I didn't really want to address this whole 'Curaoke' thing, but I might have to. Characters mention it more than I thought they would. Although it's a popular activity, so I guess that would be obvious.

I'll see if I can fit it in at the end of this update. Some of the NPC's describe it.

I'm actually not very good at Curaoke.

Not exactly my forte, either, if I'm being honest.

What I was thinking of instead was taking a walk through the city. Maybe I'll find some inspiration that would spark an idea.

Works for me. I wouldn't mind taking a stroll. Let's go.

-Downtown-

There aren't many people here, either. It feels lonely...

Looks like some monster damage to the buildings.

So yeah, remember that really weird Disciple-turned-monster attack? The game is now going to pretend like monster attacks happen all the drat time, despite the fact that Ruby explicitly told us at the start of the game that Monster Nests rarely reach this island from the continent. Monsters just routinely appear in the downtown now, apparently, and AngelMarker/Government/Church is kind of lax on actually preventing it.

There's three ways to take this at the present moment. Either the game is trying to desperately justify Sasami's Peace Patrol plan, Sasami has loving precognition, or her plan really did suck rear end and isn't working at all. I mean, it sure sounded like they planned on implementing her idea, but if they did then shouldn't the monster attacks be under better control? I refuse to believe that this has been on ongoing thing that we just didn't find out about until now. If this was already happening, then why hasn't any one of the three loving authority groups on the island done anything about it? This is Fort City. There HAS to be some kind of security considering it's immense importance.

Sasami still sucks is what I'm saying, regardless of what the game tries to do to cover its rear end.

That stand looks like it's still open. Why don't we try asking him?

Hey there! What'll it be?

I actually wondered if I could ask you a couple of questions...

You one of the Academy's Disciples? Sure! Ask me anything!

We're working on a plan for anti-monster measures. Do you have any suggestions?

Suggestions? Well... only the obvious one, really. Just look around you. Whenever monsters show up, everything goes to hell.

(Why does Fort City not have guards?)

Most of the others have left already. This place is getting to be a ghost town...

I'm sorry...

What're you apologizing for?

We're not strong enough. And that's making life difficult for all of you.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Don't think it's your fault, little lady. You Disciples fight monsters for us!

(...I can't believe what I'm hearing right now.)

Thank you...

But if I could ask one favor, it would be to keep the monsters off us, even a little. I mean, if they keep hitting us like this, we'll fold before too long.

I understand. I'll try asking the others in this city for their opinions, too.

We'd really owe you.

Dude, if you keep this up, I will personally come down here and bodyguard your shop. You are awesome.

Remember to eat takoyaki!

Riiight. I'll keep that in mind.

Please god, please let this string of actually nice NPC's continue. This has been like getting a cool breeze on a hot day. You rule, takoyaki guy.

-Park-

After talking to all those people, I think I have an idea of what to do.

So for the next time, I want to put forward a plan focused on protecting the people.

Sounds like you found a little inspiration. That should help you get started on coming up with a solid plan. Feel like heading back?

Um, not just yet. Never seen that store before... It looks like it sells cute accessories. Is it all right if I browse a while?

Huh... I don't recall there being a store here before either. It stands out, so I definitely would have remembered it.

Maybe they just opened?

I guess... Seems like a weird choice to set up all the way out here though.

Well, whatever. You go ahead and take your time. I'll hang out here. I already have more accessories than I know what to do with.

Don't worry, I won't be gone long.

*Narika leaves to go window shopping*

(Competition is in town, huh? Man, my Star Child running the Gift Shop is gonna be piiissed.)

*Some time later*

*huff* *puff* Sorry to keep you waiting. That took longer than I thought.

Don't worry about it. I've always got stuff on my mind to think about while I wait. Looks like you decided to get something. What is it?

A necklace.

Glad you found something you liked. Maybe it'll help you feel a bit more confident. You know, dress for success and all that.

Yes. I think coming out to the city turned out to be an excellent idea.

Happy to hear it. Well, it's starting to get late. Let's head back.

By all means...

Once again, Narika seems to be handling her personal poo poo just fine. Wake has just been kind of tagging along and giving the occasional thumbs up. Well, other than stepping in during the first Strategy Conference anyway.

We'll find out in Part 2 whether or not that train wreck is destined to repeat itself, but for now it seems like Narika is pulling herself together just fine.

That leaves us with Chloe. Chloe most certainly will require Wake's help, considering she's doubling her base of rabid fans with every passing week.

-Ritual Hall-

I'm ready to get started Chloe.

Something wrong? You still nervous?

No, not that. Um...

Then why do you look...so....serious....

...Oh crap. This isn't...

Mattero!? Mattero! They can't get actually pregnant from this ritual, can they!? I mean, for real pregnant!

*Distant* Not that we are aware of! Granted, we do not fully understand all of the inner workings of the Holy Rite!

Would you please knock that off! It's nothing like that!

Honestly...

Oh, sorry. That's a relief though. So then what is this about?

I would like to lead this time. I feel like I should have been leading from the start...

Oh. Well, I mean I don't have any problem with that. Not really sure that it will make any sort of difference to be honest, but sure, go for it.

Alright, touch my hand.

Now, gently hold it.

Okay.

*Classmating happens again. No! Not showing new classes!*

*phew* We managed to finish it.

You doing alright? You seem a little short of breath.

I'm fine. How did I do?

I think it went fine. She's looking pretty sturdy.

I'm so happy to hear that! I'm looking forward to next time!

Things are going much more smoothly it seems. Good to know. Moving on.

-Faculty Office-

*There's a rumbling happening with the screen from the horde of Disciples looking for a piece of Chloe*

[Female Disciple A]: Hey! I was in line first, no cutting!

[Male Disciple A]: You're the one who cut in! I skipped lunch just to wait in line!

[Female Disciple B]: Don't push me! And whose hand is that!?

What the hell is going on in here?

They're all in a frenzy and they won't listen to reason!

Yeah, that figures. *sigh*

Everyone shut the hell up!

[Male Disciple A]: Huh!?

One at a time. Why are each of you here to talk to her?

[Male Disciple A]: I'm gonna get Ms. Chloe's autograph, and I'm gonna wear it as a good-luck charm!

That's creepy. Next!

[Female Disciple A]: I may die tomorrow. I want to at least have a picture together with Ms. Chloe!

Rethink your priorities in life. Next!

[Female Disciple B]: I told you not to push me! This is so uncool!

Enough of this, you impertinent brats! This woman is your teacher!

Shoot! And now he's going to tell me off. What should I do?

He's distracted. Make a run for it. Come on!

*Wake and Chloe loving book it*

[Male Disciple A]: Ms. Chloe is running away with God's Gift!

[Female Disciple A]: Chloe, wait! Everyone, we have to catch her!

I never understood this trope. If you're fighting people to try and get a chance to meet some famous person, and you see them slip away while everyone is distracted, why the gently caress would you tip off the crowd to that? You're completely blowing your opportunity to beat the mob.

-Hallway-

Oh, I'm sorry. Why don't we go back to the Faculty Office and you can lecture me?

What was even going on back there, anyway?

This all started when they asked me to DJ. Since then, everyone wants a piece of me. It's happened to me every day now. I keep asking them not to, but they won't listen. This has gotten so out of hand, I just don't know what to do. I really don't see what's so special about getting my autograph.

I don't really see eye to eye on it, but I do understand that an autograph can be very special to people.

R-Really? But... my handwriting is terrible.

I feel you, Chloe. University/College will do that. I've been reduced to a child-like scrawl at best.

It's not about that. You've got a way of putting people at ease. Having an autograph helps some people carry that feeling into stressful situations.

Wow... With everything so uncertain, I guess any small peace of mind means a lot. I never really thought about it that way. Thank you.

I have my moments.

Hey, can I ask for your help on something?

Of course. Ask away, teach.

I'm happy that everyone appreciates me so much, but this can't go on.

Yeah, you can't exactly have chaos like that going on every day. Watts' patience is going to break eventually.

:argh: Why tell people that!? You could have just rushed over to her by yourself!

[Male Disciple A]: Ms. Chloe, if an autograph is too much to ask for, then at least shake my hand!

Oh dear, they found us...

That's it. I'm putting an end to this.

That's enough!

[Male Disciple A]: Wh-What do you want?

From this point on, if anyone wants to see her, they have to go through me first.

[Female Disciple A]: What's that supposed to mean? Are you some sort of bodyguard now?

It means I'm her personal manager, now.

Wha? HUH!?

[Male Disciple A]: Th-That's a load of crap!

You going to do something about it tough guy? I can fight Alec to a draw. I also kill things four times your size, and half as ugly, every day. So? Are you going to get up in the face of God's Gift? Or are you going to schedule a drat appointment?

That's what I thought.

[Female Disciple A]: *sigh* I waited so long to get my picture taken with Ms. Chloe...

Oh, thank goodness! They left without a fuss.

I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for your quick thinking.

Well, I know that it got me a job as a Talent Manager. Super excited about that.

Come on, let me make you a hot drink. How's that sound?

That sounds good, actually. I could use a drink.

No, the game isn't suddenly going to turn into IdolMaster or something. Don't get your hopes (or fears) up.

-Guidance Room-

Whew... We're finally alone.

What was that?

I meant that we finally escaped from that crowd.

Oh, never mind. Sit tight while I go make some coffee.

There's something I've been meaning to tell you: you are a wonderful Disciple. I think I might start relying on you a little more now.

Always glad to hear someone thinks of me that way.

And, just for you, here's Chloe's special blend.

Smells, good. Thanks.

Do you remember when I told you to come to me with any problems you may have? It looks like I'm coming to you now...

Don't worry about it. We're sort of in this together, now.

That wraps up Part 1 of our Bonding Focus. We'll go over the second half in a different update. I think the next Story Dungeon gets interrupted part way through, just like the last one, but I'm not positive. If I am able to blitz the entire dungeon in one run, then I'll finish up the Bonding Focus in the next update, then do the story.

But if there's a break halfway through the next dungeon, then maybe I'll do that part next instead, just to give us a little break. We'll see.

Before we go, there are a few small things I want to add in.

First of all, it's been a while since we checked in with the random NPC's at the Academy. Let's see if they have any gems.

[Elite Disciple]: I saw Ellie earlier, walking in the city by herself. She was looking around. I thought she was trying to find something. I asked if she needed help... But she said "Oh, don't worry about me." Then she ran away. *sigh* Did I say something wrong to her?

Don't beat yourself up over it. That just sounds like a standard Ellie thing to me.

[Male Disciple]: A Standard Disciple in the city turned into a monster... I still can't believe it. What if that had happened during class? It gives me chills just thinking about it. Well, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed against the worst.

If it happened during class then there would have been a room full of Disciples to stop it. What, do you guys just not train to fight monsters at all?

[Female Disciple]: The Curative Orchestra System... Or Curaoke, for short. It's very popular with Disciples. See, Curaoke releases Star Energy through songs to heal people! Doesn't that sound like a perfect pastime for Disciples? ...Um, G.G...

Oh...well, um... I mean I'm not a great singer, but if you're asking...

[Female Disciple]: Uh... Th-That was a joke, haha. Forget I asked!

Hey! Wait!

You could have at least waited to let me finish. I wasn't going to say no or anything...

Good job, Wake. Way to utterly blow it. I'm seemingly some kind of savant when it comes to dealing with the S Ranked girls, so why did I bite it just now?

(Good thing I didn't make that whole 'God's Gift to Women' crack I was thinking of saying to Chlotz earlier. He would have never let me live that down if he found out about this.

Missed your chance, Wake. Anyway, that's what Curaoke is. I debated it, but the characters, both main and side, mention it multiple times throughout the story (especially in the generic events). So I felt I really should explain what the hell it is.

[Elite Female Disciple]: Boy, I really stank it up at the Rank Exam... I have to try harder next time to make it to a higher Rank. A higher Rank means a brighter future, right? Lucky you, G.G... Your future is guaranteed from the start. It's decided, then! I'll work hard to make my dream reality!

Oh yeah, I'm so lucky. I've got such a bright future ahead of me! You know, assuming I manage to live through all the death Labyrinths and insanely dangerous risks that my support team puts me through. Fighting my way through monster infested mazes with no hope for backup if things go wrong, sealing away unkillable eldritch abominations, and other little stuff like that. No big deal.

It's okay, Wake. At least we're finding out that there are people in this drat City that truly appreciate what you do and think highly of your duty as God's Gift.

That brings this update to an end. I leave you now with a few accessory pictures of the Heroines. I gave out some gifts just to show a few of them off.

Ellie is showcasing some Thin Glasses.

Narika is showcasing some Silver Earrings. I actually gave Ellie a pair of these as well, but her hair style makes them impossible to see.

Chloe has a Military Beret which.... honestly, I was expecting more. Kind of just looks like seaweed in her hair.

So I gave her Elegant Earrings instead.

I won't hold an official vote, but if you guys want to suggest any accessory for any of the heroines, even the ones that aren't focused on, then let me know. They'll only show up on 3D models though, so the non-focus heroines might not get much screen time with them.

Yeah, I noticed that immediately. No clue how that happened. Torri and Ellie are nowhere near each other in my Portrait Code document. Then again, I have been super hosed up this week in terms of sleep. Either way, thanks for keeping an eye out.

I don't think I have access to it yet. I do have some more SC's to give independence to though, so I'll boost the city level and see if it pops up. It is a very cool accessory.

There's definitely some secret about Ellie the church wants to hide. Not that she's
also likely involved in dirty work for the church but I am starting to wonder if the theory about her being a star energy lich is right.

She's pretty great personality wise in either case and I hope she stays on in our final three.

So after playing through to the start of Chapter 4, I think I will have to do Part 2 of the Focus Bonding next. The next story dungeon has a small break, but nothing really happens that would help fill out an update. So we'll wrap up the second half of Ellie, Narika, and Chloe's bond event, then move on with the story. I'd say from this point on, this is probably what you can expect the update cycle to be. Story usually hits at the start of the Chapter, then hits again after the dungeon is clear.

Also, in preparation for the second major Heroine vote, I need a little input from the thread.

I'm having trouble deciding on how I should handle the next vote. The major sticking point is that the thread will be voting on the seven heroines, but only Ellie, Chloe, and Narika have gotten much in the way of screen time. For Fuuko and Serina this is largely okay, since they both had equal screen time with Narika/Ellie/Chloe before during the first vote. Feene and Torri on the other hand are joining late, so people will be voting for them just based on their first bonding events while Ellie, Chloe, and Narika have a lead by being up to their fourth events (by the time the vote will happen). It seems a little bit unfair.

So here are the three possible options I have in mind for this:

1. People have to base any possible votes for Torri, Feene, Serina, or Fuuko, purely on their first events. Might seem a little unfair, but on the other hand if you don't like a character as is, then their route probably isn't going to change your mind (i.e. Serina).

2. I summarize Torri/Feene/Serina/Fuuko events up to their fourth so that they are roughly on equal footing with Ellie/Narika/Chloe.

3. The thread first votes on Chloe, Narika, and Ellie, deciding on one or two of them to drop. The thread then votes for one or two of Torri/Serina/Fuuko/Feene as a replacement(s). Alternatively, the thread just votes to not drop anyone.

What does everyone think? I'm open to suggestions as well. Catching up with all four heroines just isn't an option though, or at least it's an option that I don't think the thread will enjoy. Each heroine would need an entire update devoted solely to them in order to catch up (possibly even more than one update). Given the pace I have been getting updates done, as well as the winding down of the school year, we'd have to take a roughly two week break from anything story related for that to be an option. This isn't a formal vote, I just want to see what the thread thinks.

I think that a summary of the other heroines would be the way to go. Hopefully wouldn't take too long/much effort for you to do and would give them a better shot at being picked.

Yeah I a summary feels like the best way to handle it, with maybe a post of the full events for any who get swapped in after. Or at least the highlights.

BlazeEmblem

Uh oh. Do I use Ariadne thread or Goho-M?

i agree with the summary. The first event generally isn't enough to show off how a character's story will go, and just voting out the characters we originally voted in makes the first vote meaningless.

Yeah, there is a little bit of unfairness no matter which way it's done.

I'll go with that then, at least for now. It's still another chapter away anyway.

I just want people to have a chance at swapping out a heroine if her story feels like it isn't going anywhere or getting interesting. At the same time, it would suck to drop one of them only to be replaced by someone who ends up being less interesting. Oh well, I wanted the thread to make choices, so I have to do it someway.

Before that though, I have to get started on the second half of our current heroines. The end of Chapter 3 gives us several sneak peaks at various developments coming up, both in terms of story and game mechanics. Not to mention we get to see the group of seven finally complete.

~Bonding Focus: Chapter 3 (Part 2): Ellie, Narika, Chloe + The other heroines (Summary)~

Turns out the next story dungeon does have a small break, but it doesn't last nearly long enough to fill out an update. So we're going to go ahead and finish up the bonding events for our three focus heroines.

A lot happens after this update. Chapter 3 to Chapter 4 has some developments and characters to introduce, on top of finally giving us access to our final party member, Feene. So here's something to chew on while I get to work on that mess.

We start with Chloe this time, for no particular reason. Just trying to mix it up.

-Hallway-

Coming through.

It's "Good morning, Ms. Chloe." You gotta get this stuff straight, Mr. Manager guy.

Chlotz, what the hell are you doing here?

I heard you became Sis' manager. Admit it. Admit it or I won't let you into the Faculty Room.

That's cute. We both know there isn't a drat thing you can do to stop me.

Okay, well technically no, but-- Hey!

-Faculty Office-

Get a move on that reserves list! And get me the results from the recent Rank Exams.

You seem awfully busy. Sounds like boot camp in here.

Oh, sorry. I don't have time right now. I should be finished soon, if you'll be patient.

You got it. Need a hand with anything?

Thank you, but I'm fine. Now to finish up these documents... And sign here...

Ta-daah! I'm done.

Phew, that was exhausting. I think I just earned a pat on the back!

And why exactly would I do that?

Duh, because you're her manager!

Ugh, dammit. I guess I technically did get myself into that mess. Alright, hold on. I'll be back in a minute.

And while you're at it, get me a drink too!

Sure thing! What kind do you want shoved up your rear end? I'm thinking a soda can would probably be big enough, but maybe you'd prefer a full bottle rammed in there instead?

Uh, never mind. I'm not thirsty.

That's what I thought.

*Wake gets some tea, like a drat sophisticated gentleman*

Here you go, Chloe.

Thank you.

You seem a little busier than usual today. What's going on?

There's so much to do, from writing tests to making arrangements for supplies...

You're handling all of that alone? What are the other teachers doing?

THIS PLACE IS DEVOTED TO QUELLING THE MONSTER THREAT! HUMANITY DEPENDS ON IT! Why in the gently caress is it understaffed!? What are we going to hear about next!? Budget cuts!?

Those of us who can spare the time have to do what we can.

Make up your mind, game. Is this place gravely important to training disciples to fight against monsters and finding ways to defeat them? Or is it some boonies school that the government/Church doesn't really give a poo poo about? You can't have it both ways.

Okay, but you're going to burn yourself out at this rate you know.

Sis, don't push yourself too hard. You look like you haven't gotten much sleep.

No, I'm fine... But thanks, Chlotz.

Hey, I'm counting on you as her manager. Make sure she doesn't collapse one day.

She's a grown woman, Chlotz. I'm not her nanny.

Thank you. I wonder who it's from... Hmmmmm...

What's going on?

It's from the lead vocalist of the Choir Club, the one I filled in for. She wants me to throw a concert for the injured and wounded at the Field Hospital. They must have heard about my performance at the concert.

That's awesome. You have to do it, Sis.

But... what do you think?

You can't make any rash decisions. You need to think about this.

Last I checked, you weren't the manager or the talent, so of course it sounds fine to you. You don't do anything.

If you'll excuse the interruption, Ms. Chloe, may I tear you from these trifles?

Aw crap, Watts is gonna be a buzzkill.

I trust you've managed to complete the assignment I gave you?

Who is this guy? Why is a teacher giving another teacher assignments? Mattero is the Headmaster, and Watts is never referred to as a Vice Principal or anything of that nature. I know there's a bunch of seniority stuff in Japan, but this seems weird. Watts is still a coworker.

Everyone in this game just loves to go on insane power trips. And why not? Nobody ever calls them out on their bullshit.

Yes, here are the documents you requested.

Hmph! You mean to tell me that you're already finished? I pray you understand that speed is not a virtue when lives hang in the balance. Hmmmm... These numbers appear to be correct.

Man... He's still a dick.

Don't be so quick to judge him. He's actually an incredibly busy person.

Could have fooled me.

Anyway, forget about that.

So the concert is definitely happening. I'll go talk to the Choir Club.

Chlotz! You're not the-- drat it. Already gone.

This is getting way bigger than I imagined. I wonder if I should be the one singing.

Well, people want to hear you sing. There's no arguing with that.

You're right. And I'll do my best not to let them down.

Well, I did make a commitment.

And that's Chloe out of the way. Her bond route goes back on pause until Chapter 4.

I gotta say, Chlotz has been getting weird in this route. It wasn't that long ago he was threatening to knock Wake's teeth out. What's your game, Chlotz?

-Shooting Range-

It's Ellie time. If you remember from the last update, Wake had promised her to go shopping for cute stuff she could put in her room.

That's weird, Ellie is usually here this time of day. Did she not come to school?

*Ellie rushes in*

Ellie? Are you doing okay? You look pretty pale.

H-Huh!? Um... It's nothing. I was late again, so I ran all the way here.

I'll be okay once I rest a little... Whew.

Looks like the Church is running you ragged.

No, that's all settled for the time being.

Anyway, did you need something from me?

I promised I'd go shopping with you. I figured I would see if you had the time. Maybe we should wait until you're more rested though.

N-No, I'll be okay!

Alright. I'll wait by the main gate then. Don't push yourself, okay?

Of course. I won't cause you any trouble. ...Then again, I am causing you trouble by making you go shopping with me. Aheheh...

-Downtown-

Hm, what would be suitable for the room... I thought flowers might be nice, but taking care of them would be difficult...

I guess a stuffed animal is better after all? I know! What if I buy a really BIG stuffed animal... Would you name it for me?

Sure, I can probably come up with something.

Aheheh, that would be most helpful. While I'm here at the Academy... I'm going to try to make enough memories for an entire lifetime.

...Ooh, look! A stuffed animal kiosk!

Hm? You mean that? That's not a store, Ellie.

It isn't? It's full of cute plushies, though... Look at that big stuffed bear! He's so cute!

Do you put the money in here? Is this... some kind of vending machine?

No, it's far more exploitative than that. It's a claw game. You put the money in, move the claw around, and try to grab something. Then you have to get it to the hole in the corner in order to get the prize.

Oh... But since that's how it works, I guess getting it that way means more.

That's... highly debatable.

I'm going to try my best to get that stuffed bear.

Well, if that's what you want. Let's see what you're capable of.

I'll try hard to live up to your hopes. Well then, time for the challenge!

There... Hmm... A little further... There! Ha! The claw's picked it up! Now to drop it in the hole...

5...4...3...2...1...

Wait... Ah! No! It fell!

Yeah, that'll happen with these things. Looks like it's wedged in there pretty good, too.

N-Nooooo!

Don't look at me like that. It's--

...

(So this is my life now, huh? Son of a bitch.)

Let me see what I can do.

I'm counting on you. Oh... I don't mind if you can't do it, so please don't look so glum.

Too late for that. Come on, trade places with me. Let's get this game started.

I'll cheer you on with everything I have!

*Apparently a LOT of fruitless attempts later. Seriously, it's evening now!*

Hmmm... This is small.

Sorry, best I could manage.

Oh, no, it's okay. Now that I look at it, this one is more charming.

I like this one a lot more!

Okay, slightly unsettling, but as long as you're happy.

Um, thank you so much for coming out with me today.

Thanks to you, I've gotten a really cute stuffed animal!

We'll try for a bigger one some other time.

Oh no, this is more than enough for me.

This one is stuffed full of memories, after all. I'll make sure to take good care of it forever.

Well, I don't really want to go, but I have to run.

Hey, slow down a sec. I thought you said you wanted me to give it a name?

Huh?

Remember? You asked me if I would give it a name for you?

Oh, there's no need. I've already come up with a name for it.

Oh, well that works for me. What did you decide to call it?

What's wrong? How come you're staring at me like that?

I-I'm not staring! Not at all! A-Anyway, I'm okay on its name. P-Please excuse me!

*Ellie loving books it*

Why did I just have a shiver run up my spine?

Ellie's gonna Ellie. What can you do? Being secretive and slightly stalker-ish towards Wake is kind of her thing.

Last on the docket is Narika. Last time she seemed to get some ideas for a new presentation for the next conference, Takoyaki Guy was nice to her and showed that he was a really swell guy, then Narika went accessory shopping and picked out a cute necklace at some weird pop-up shop in the park.

-2nd-Year Classroom-

Also Wake was there, I guess. He did... stuff.

I'll be needing your help again today, Wake.

Time for the next conference, huh? You came up with the proposal this time. Are you confident in it?

Yes... I'm ready. All thanks to you, Wake. You'll be watching over the conference as a scribe, right?

Of course. You can count on me.

Oh, you mean when I stepped in to deliver the presentation?

Yes. This time, I want to try to do this on my own.

Well, I'll be sure to stay quiet and just have faith in you. It's your show.

Thanks for believing in me...

I can respect that. I'll be rooting for you internally, then.

Thank you. Now, shall we head over to the conference?

(Not bad. She seems a lot more confident than last time. She's got a much more determined look in her eye. I guess that practice is paying off.)

(I hope it is, anyway.)

-Auditorium-

Still no sign of the 2nd-Year Class President by the way. Despite the performance last time, apparently Wake and Narika's class is just going to keep throwing her at this wall.

[Council President]: We will now commence the Second Strategy Conference. For the first phase, each representative will present their class' plan. After that, the representatives will debate their plans amongst each other. All Disciples will vote on a plan after hearing the presentations and debate. Our first presentation comes to us from the first-years' representative, Sasami.

Thank you. Allow me to explain our plan. What we propose is...

*Sasami presents her plan*

...And that concludes my presentation.

We don't even get to hear a general idea of what her plan is this time. The game just completely skips it. Likely because it would be equally as stupid as the first one.

No, I will not be letting that go. Not until Sasami eats dirt. I don't care what bullshit the game tries to throw out to try and make her look sensible.

[Council President]: Next, we'll hear from the second-years' representative, Narika.

Thank you.

We looked at how to minimize casualties and property damage caused by monsters...

(Wow, she's off to a way better start.)

Statistics show that damage and casualties are on the rise in many places. This takes a great toll on the populace mentally and economically, and...

[Male Disciple B]: She seems way more confident this time.

[Female Disciple A]: Yeah, it's like she's a completely different person.

*We don't get to hear the details on this one either. I think the game just gives up trying to come up with possible plans at this point*

(I've never seen her this composed. Although, this is the easy part. The debate is going to be rocky.)

[Council President]: We'll now move on to the second phase: a debate over the three proposals. I hope to hear good points raised between the three of you.

I have a question for the second-year representative.

Yes...?

I agree that trying to reduce civilian casualties is a very noble cause. But I must point out that your plan is severely lacking in detail. You didn't outline squad composition to be dispatched, let alone the cost...

Well, that's not quite true. Um... For that, I thought...

*The screen flashes white for a second*

You doing okay, Narika?

I-I'm fine... Um... to answer that question, we must first examine the possibilities...

You do realize that having no answer here jeopardizes your proposal's integrity...

Ummm... I... err...

[Male Disciple B]: What happened? She had it, and then...

[Female Disciple A]: Hang in there, Narika...

I'm still awaiting an answer...

...Uhhh...

(She's falling apart again. I...)

(No. I said I would have faith in her. If I keep bailing her out then she'll never get better, and she knows that. Come on, Narika.)

[Council President]: Please, Ms. Shina, answer the question.

(Good, she's bringing it back around.)

Not that that will matter of course. We've established that this whole thing is essentially a popularity contest, and the Disciples voting are drooling idiots.

[Council President]: The votes are in, and the winner is the first-years' proposal.

Thank you. I'm honored to receive your support once again.

[Male Disciple A]: Looks like we lose once again... *sigh* Makes me ashamed to be a third-year.

[Council President]: Thank you for your time, everyone. This conference is now adjourned.

[Male Disciple B]: drat that Sasami...

[Female Disciple A]: Narika didn't do too bad to start, but she fell apart during the debate.

You doing okay? Sorry it didn't work out, but hey, you did a lot better than last time. You made huge improvements.

Thanks...

Narika Shina!

Sasami...?

I must say, my opinion of you has definitely changed. And I know you can do even better still. Just try to be a bit more aggressive. I felt I had to come tell you that. Goodbye...

She sure has a lot of nerve coming over and saying all that patronizing crap after the way she acted last time.

I need to try harder, don't I?

Well, despite how much I hate her, I can't really argue with that point. You've got your footing, now you just need to learn how to swing.

Aggressive...

Riiight...

And that's Narika. She's a hell of a lot better than last time. Wake did basically nothing for that entire event. Hell, even Sasami has stopped being a complete tool and is starting to act like a halfway decent 'rival' should. Things are looking good on this front.

That brings us to the other 'fronts'. Specifically, the heroines that we left to warm the benches.

There's a problem approaching this LP that I was a little unsure of how to deal with. I asked for some input from the thread, and the people that replied seemed to agree on what choice I should make.

The issue is that our current Focus Heroines have been getting a lot of screentime to develop and win over users.

Meanwhile, the benchwarmers have only gotten the introductory part of their routes, which doesn't tell us a lot about them, or give many hints as to where their routes will go.

Torri and Feene also had the misfortune of joining relatively late (Chapter 4 is almost halfway through the game and is where Feene finally gets her time in the spotlight).

Basically, Chloe/Narika/Ellie have a huge advantage over the others, while Torri and Feene kind of have a bigger disadvantage than even Fuuko and Serina. It generally takes up to the second or third bond level to get an idea of the direction of the route.

-Route Summary-

To help remedy that, I'm going to do route summaries for all of the heroines up to the level that the Focus Heroines currently are (3rd Bond Bar I believe).

These will be short summaries of the major parts of Fuuko/Serina/Torri's routes. Feene's will be held off on until she joins officially. Chloe/Narika/Ellie will still get a slight advantage by having their fourth level bond events, but they did win the first vote.

What happened last?: When we last saw Fuuko, Wake pushed her to join the Aquatics Team instead of the Marksmanship Club. She clearly has a love for swimming, so Wake convinced her to follow her passion. Fuuko predictably got really down on herself, so Wake had to physically drag her to the pool in order to finally jumpstart her interest.

What happened next?: Ghostbusters. I'm only half kidding. Wake goes to check on Fuuko after swim practice one day, and Fuuko talks about how she was the slowest again, so she is cleaning the pool, but that's okay because she really likes being in the water. Either way, she seems to be having fun with it. Wake offers to help clean up while Fuuko heads off to change out of her swimwear. She kind of disappears for a while, long enough for Wake to finish the job himself. While waiting for her in the halls, he hears her scream.

No, Wake does not run in on her naked, despite the obvious set up. They meet up with each other in the halls and he asks her what happened. Fuuko is freaked out, but after calming down, she claims to have seen a ghost girl floating over the pool and it turned and smiled at her. Wake heads off to check for himself, while Fuuko sticks to him like glue because she's terrified of ghosts. They find nothing out of sorts.

Later, Fuuko still gets the inkling that something is up at the pool, so her and Wake go to investigate again during the night. The moon is out this time, and Fuuko and Wake end up meeting the ghost girl.

Turns out she's pretty chill though, and apparently Wake can only see her if he's touching Fuuko. Fuuko can apparently see her any time the moonlight is shining. The ghost girl is haunting the pool or water or something and trying to figure out how she can move on to the next life. Fuuko also mentions something about an event that happened in her past, but doesn't elaborate.

Fuuko reads up and figures out that the ghost girl must have some kind of regret that is keeping her bound to the mortal world. After consultation, Fuuko tells Wake that apparently the ghost girl believes that dating is the thing that will allow her to move on. It seems that was something she never got to do and is a major regret. Fuuko allows Ms. Ghost to possess her body, at which point she starts flirting with Wake, hard. Ms. Ghost says that Fuuko's consciousness is seeing all of this, and she's apparently freaking the gently caress out inside as this spectral entity tries to seduce her friend with her own body.

Fuuko starts growing some jealousy towards Ms. Ghost because of how well she seems to get along with Wake, but of course she just mumbles this stuff under her breath instead of admitting she might have a crush on him too.

Ms. Ghost says that she's just having some fun of course, and she proceeds to go for a swim with Wake, as their date. This doesn't really seem to do the trick, so Wake and Fuuko are left still trying to find out what is keeping her here.

Also, Wake gets this gem as one of his choices:

Sweet. I like it when Japanese localization teams have some light fun with the translation.

What happened last?: We find out that Serina chugs milk as if her family was running a dairy farm. She believes that it will trigger a growth spurt and she'll grow 9 feet tall or something. This is supposedly what she considers to be the optimal vision of what a disciple should be. She also still hates Wake because of that stupid accident.

What happened next?: Freaky Friday, or Big (the movie I mean). I'm only half kidding. Wake helps Serina out one day to acquire milk, because apparently the students in the cafeteria turn into a goddamn horde during lunchtime for cow juice. Serina shows a small amount of gratitude towards Wake for helping her, and gives him a coupon to a cafe or something.

Wake is wandering around one day and ends up at the cafe that he has the coupon for. It turns out that the cafe is run by Serina's family, namely her older sister, Nazuna. We immediately see that Serina's obsession with getting bigger is because she has an inferiority complex regarding her sister. Nazuna was the S-Rank Valedictorian when she graduated, was a powerful fighter (and is implied to still be one), is tall and beautiful, and she is mentioned to be crazy stacked. We only see her from the collarbone area and up, but Serina and Nazuna both mention it at different points, and one of Wake's dialogue choices is, honest to god:

So yeah, Official Wake's interest in women can be all over the place depending on your dialogue choices. Anyway, Serina wants to one-up her sister, because of course she does. Nazuna doesn't come off as being snobbish or anything, Serina just envies her because she isn't her. Nazuna proceeds to do what older sister characters/mother figures in anime always do, immediately start teasing Wake and Serina by suggesting they are dating. Serina says "He's not my boyfriend!" a lot, Nazuna thinks it's cute, you get the idea.

Later on, Serina is found on the rooftop actually trying to perform the 'Make your bust bigger with Star Energy' thing from that trashy book in the library. It doesn't work, because of course it doesn't. However, Wake and Serina get knocked into each other at one point, which causes Serina to actually transform into her 'perfect vision'.

Just a quick point here: There are 'Touch' events in the game, because obviously. I think they were way more common and involved in the Vita/3DS version, but maybe I'm just remembering wrong. Just think of it like the Fire Emblem: Fates debacle, where 'Vita/3DS Conception II = Japanese Fates release', while 'Steam Conception II = English Fates localization'.

Moving on, Serina treats this in the exact way you would expect. She immediately starts acting like the typical anime popular girl, being supremely confident in her new looks and wanting to rub it in people's faces. She ends up turning back to her original self at some point, which leads to her finding out a few things regarding the transformation:

A) She needs Wake's massive amount of Ether to activate it.
B) Wake needs to kiss her in order for it to work (she has him kiss her hand).
C) It only lasts an hour, or until she rejects the Ether and turns back of her own accord.
D) She can't use Star Energy while in this form, meaning it's worthless for combat.

Despite these minor setbacks, Serina proceeds to flaunt this for all it's worth and drags Wake around to act as her personal transformation item. All the while this is going on, Serina keeps talking about how guys would only want this version of her, while Wake keeps trying to tell her that he likes her as she normally is. Serina, of course, blows this off and continues enjoying her new body.

During a shopping trip out, where Wake offers to help carry shopping bags like a gentleman (Nazuna basically flatters him into doing it), Serina stops at some store to pick up "intimates" for Nazuna (Nazuna apparently gets her younger sister to do this for her). Wake wisely proceeds to wait outside, and Serina wonders why he didn't jump at the opportunity since she figured every guy was into her sister.

Serina goes in, then runs back out huffy and teary eyed because some little girl in the store had bigger boobs than her and the sales lady said that that size was 'normal for kids these days'. Despite no antagonizing whatsoever, Serina demands to transform, struts into the store and buys the largest bra available, then meets up with Wake in the park and declaring victory while musing about maybe even being bigger than Nazuna.

Serina then gets her comeuppance when the Single Person Fusion Dance hits the time limit, and transforms back to normal, causing the bra to drop off of her underneath her uniform. She's then forced to have to give the bra to Nazuna or face the secondary humiliation of having to go back to the store and return it. No, Serina has still not learned any lesson by this point.

What happened last?: ...A.I.? ...Stella from Gundam Seed Destiny? Actually, god no. Forget I said that last one. That series ceased to exist after Seed. Or maybe Astray. Stargazer? Anyway, there is no such thing as Stella. Moving on.

I don't have an appropriate analogue to Torri's route. Last time we saw her she was being eccentric, talking about birds, staring out windows, and sort of being a vagrant despite Enzea leaving her in Ruby's care. There hasn't been much else to her beyond that.

What happened next?: Mostly those same things. Wake continues feeding her because she keeps spending all her allowance every month somehow.

Which culminates in this:

Wake feeds her Sara Potatoes and she acts like a loving baby bird, flapping her hands and everything. She doesn't go so far as to tweet or anything, thank Christ.

Anyway, Wake mentions that he used to love the soup that his mother would make, you know, before she got killed and everything. The only problem is that it uses an herb called Siglett which is hard to come by. He mentions it in passing and doesn't really dwell on it or anything, it's just something he used to like.

Wake is talking to Torri in a different event when she darts off somewhere, saying she has something to do. He goes looking for her, Takoyaki Guy makes another appearance and is still cool (he has a baby girl :3:), then Chlotz eventually tells him that he saw Torri running off to the Cliffs of Moher or some poo poo. Wake takes off looking for her, since she wouldn't survive ten seconds without adult supervision.

He finds her dangling from the cliffs with an acompanying CG that I had to cut in half in order to display in the thread. I won't link the original CG, because it is an insane amount of upskirt and there is no way to not be creepy about it. So Torri nearly gets herself killed trying to get this herb that Wake briefly mentioned, Wake lightly scolds her for being a reckless idiot, and no lesson is learned because Torri only sees 'Wake + Mother's Soup = Wake Happy'.

After that little escapade, Torri picks up some type of whittling hobby and crafts some sort of wooden bird with wing-flapping action. She takes it outside and Wake watches as she makes it fly using her Star Energy. She then trips on a rock and the wooden bird nosedives into the ground. She says that she'll get to fixing it and making it better.

Wake returns in the next event to find that she has constructed an entire plane. Suck on that Wright Brothers. The plane is powered by her Star Energy, so she hops aboard and tries to fly it.

She gets some speed and a few feet of air...

...but then her Star Energy runs out and the thing nearly plows into a group of Disciples that are watching, then almost into the school itself, before she manages to veer it off its destructive course and crash land it without collateral damage. The plane gets wrecked, Torri vows to make a bunch of improvements to it, then Chloe comes in and orders them to the teacher's lounge to lecture them both, even though Wake had little to no involvement.

Now you're all caught up on the others. This should let everyone get a general idea of where the heroine routes are going. All of them have established a relative theme by this point, which is to say that I don't believe any of them pull a hard right into a completely different direction.

Chloe, Narika, and Ellie will still get their fourth level bond events in Chapter 4 (as they did win the original vote), and I'll do an intro and summary for Feene when she joins. Then sometime around end of Chapter 4, start of Chapter 5, we'll do another vote to see if the thread wants to swap anyone in/out.

Chapter 7 is the last chance for bonding, and whomever the three focus heroines are at that point will be the ending candidates.

But that's still a little ways off. For now, we look ahead to the end of Chapter 3, which is coming in the next update.

It's the best way I could describe the new attitude. She starts laughing/chuckling to herself like 'Mwehehehehe', too. She also flat out asks Wake what he thinks her (normal sized form's) bra size is during that store trantrum thing, as if Wake has any way of answering that kind of trap question. Doesn't help that his only three options are two douchebag responses and a dodge either (he says 'S Rank. Doesn't matter what size you are, you're an S Rank.')

Edit: I just noticed that the Serena screenshot is off. I need to fix that when I get back. There's supposed to be a text box of her talking about how gorgeous she is.

It would be awesome if we could dance!
Could we just date the older sister?

Hell, why is the older sister not a soldier anymore? Do they just stop soldiering after finishing high school? My guess would be yes because this is anime land and of course they do.

I think it was already mentioned but most lose their ability to manipulate star energy in the early to mid 20s.

I wish, Nazuna seems like a pretty nice person to hang out with. At least, based on what little interaction we have with her.

Also, as Mokinokaro mentioned, the Star Brand disappears around 18 or 19 years old. Now, if Nazuna really was a fighter on say, Feene's level, then she probably could have done something combat related afterward. Maybe a combat instructor or a guard or something, but fighting monsters would have been too dangerous for her at that point. At least on a regular basis.

Besides, Ruby mentions that Elites/S-Ranks have a ton of options after graduation. So with all those possibilities open to her, it's pretty understandable for Nazuna to get away from combat stuff. People in the real world do it all the time. Join the military or serve their mandatory military training to get an education, then leave as soon as they can and go pursue their desires.

Yea but in the real world military comes after high school.

Hell, if your soldiers are only good till 20 why not start them off earlier than high school? Take them out from school at 12, train them for 2-3 years, get at least 4 years of military service out of them. And when they're done and survive, put them through school.

Still playing through this alongside the thread. Just wanna add that as bad as the summary is, it's worse in practice. Serina is just awful. Worse I'm pretty sure this route gives the player more options to make Wake a creep than all the other routes combined (this wasn't the last apperance of those touch events).

When the time for voting comes, can we give Serinas route negative votes?

Like most things in this game, it's not properly expanded on so we have no way of knowing. My guess is that they do have some kind of training for kids before the Brand (might) appear on them. Wake, Alec, Triche, and Feene wouldn't get to their current skill level in a year or two of club practice. They must have started training at a young age.

Either way, it doesn't change the fact that Nazuna probably wasn't interested in staying a soldier. As far as we can see, she really wanted to run the family cafe, so after graduation, she did.

Man, now that I think about it, you're right. Serina's route has a LOT of options for Wake to be a creep or total jerk. You can make him act incredibly out of character or unevenly.

To give an example to the rest of the thread, that 'what's my size?' question that Serina asks Wake? Here are his other dialogue options:

Do you get it in the kids' section?
You can wear a bra?

Not even LP Wake is that much of a dick.

Narika's cool. She has her issues, but she does mean well.

I am saddened that Torri's crazy design seems to be wasted on a fairly dull character, though.

Wow, I kind of hoped that Serina would eventually get better, but that route's just bad. However, I am enjoying just how quickly Torri's route seems to escalate, despite the character herself being a bit lame.
