That's an impressively smooth finish for a 3D printed object. I also like how the creator synced the print program to the stop motion delay so the print head would always be at zero when the picture was taken.

I know its a slight tangent, but octolapse has a setting for that. Also, it looks like a >20 hour print for something roughly the size of his hand, so the layer height is probably ridiculously fine

I tried to take a timelapse video of my last print but my goddamn cat kept attacking the printer and moved the camera around so it looks pretty lovely . I think i need to build an enclosure...

Maybe they've gotten smart enough to include code for "pause for a selfie"

Wouldn't it be easier to program the camera to take a picture when the head returned to 0, the hardware must have hooks available to draw an input of some sort from to drive the camera. That would seem easier as each layer takes a different length of time to print.

The print head doesn't return to 0 every layer normally, but octolapse plugin for octoprint adds G code to move the print head out of the way to take a picture every layer (or layers, it's configurable). Previous time lapse plugins would just take a picture every layer and you'd see the hotend whizzing around. It doesn't add a huge amount of delay but I don't really use it.

Watching this I like to think that's a mountain range to the top right and the little thing moving near the bottom is a horse.
