I just found out Dems need 23 seats to take the House. The PSA crew thinks 17 is really easy, but those extra 6 seats are going to be tricky. Lol. Have no hope gang. If you ever visit Stockholm you can crash at my place for a bit.

The problem with universal mail in ballots is: 1) Secret Ballot: If you live with someone who disagrees with you politically, the secrecy of your vote is less secure than in-person voting. 2) Lack of Security: It's pretty easy for mailed ballots to go "missing" if a variety of people in the chain of custody are fuckheads. It's convenient as hell, and a good way to bump up participation, but it's not without it's downsides.

Imagine me posting this:quote:“In the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can change it.” While riding public transit to my guaranteed job that has unlimited sick time and 30 days of vacation a year. Or while riding public transit to visit my wife in the hospital where she pays $10 a day for a stay. Then picture me posting this while driving down a toll road in Edmond Oklahoma.

Back from voting in Upstate NY. Voted straight Working Families as a weak-rear end protest against the Dem party. The only exception was Hawkins over Cuomo because Cuomo is a corrupt piece of poo poo. I was number 295 at my polling location, which is about 125 higher than I usual am at the same time of day most elections.

Crakkerjakk posted:The problem with universal mail in ballots is: #1 is true to some extent, but the idea that there are legions of abused people out there who can only find release through the sanctity of the secret ballot has always seemed like an extremely specious reason to stick with in-person voting, especially given the amount of external fuckery/intimidation/etc. in-person voting exposes you to #2 is pretty clearly nonsense - vote-by-mail has an inherent paper trail/physical evidence in the case of wrongdoing or error, secured drop boxes throughout the community (at convenient community centers like libraries) ensure you don't have to worry about someone swiping your ballot from your mailbox if you're paranoid, and it's demonstrably possible to successfully track ballots through the system which means its much easier to identify situations where someone might be committing lots of federal mail crimes or "losing" boxes of votes (which is in no way a unique vulnerability of vote-by-mail vs. in-person voting) LGD has issued a correction as of 22:36 on Nov 6, 2018 |
