To be fair, most web development is a buggy pile of crap at the best of times, and relying on what is probably shoddy Javascript running on some no-doubt obsolete version of Internet Explorer for something as important as an election is a hearty lol indeed. (They don't even seem to have aligned the crosses in the boxes properly.)

Elevator Screamer posted:I always found it weird that Americans from a background like your wife's seem to identify with conservatism, even though it clearly isn't in their best interests and likely doesn't align with their beliefs. In most countries they'd be more likely to align with the left-wing parties that grew out of the Labour movement. I guess the terror of anything that looked even vaguely socialist combined with a 2-party system designed to kerbstomp grassroots political movements killed that dream in America. The parties in the US are generally set up to be a class/economics-based capital/labor dichotomy but it continually gets messed up because people are more interested in voting based on racial tensions (or the general culture developed from those racial tensions), or other particular wedge issues like abortion and gay rights. Absolutely anything else is negotiable as long as you give people their preferred stance on race and/or wedge issues, and they will even switch parties and ideologies accordingly.

Thanks you for actually doing something productive about the problem instead of spending all day spewing hopeless brokebrains poo poo into this echo chamber.

I guess the terror of anything that looked even vaguely socialist combined with a 2-party system designed to kerbstomp grassroots political movements killed that dream in America. The united States is big. I know you keep hearing it but that is the reason people can grow up "with values" and find out their values do not line up with the rest of the world because they have no one to else to interact with with differing opinions. How far do you think the drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles is? If you said half the distance from North to South of England you would be right. Now what if I said there are even longer distances between cities and the only people living between them live in towns that are just made up of a main Street, second Street, and Lee? You grow up in that town, you assume a lot of stuff until you are forced to interact with other people either at church, work, or when you goto college (if you do go), or some other event. You'll instinctivly protect your "values" not realize you have little understanding what they actually are.
