It looks like the ballot measure for my county that our chapter put a lot of effort into canvasing for and otherwise getting folks educated about passed. Though unfortunately hellworld decided we shouldn't regulate dialysis centers like they're medical providers, unban rent control, and that private employers should be retroactively immune to being sued for wage theft if they did it to EMT workers.
I'm proud of you folks that got good stuff done though.

Measure B in LA failed too. Pretty lame. Not surprising though. Prop 10 was entirely people like DSA volunteering and the no campaign was massive and had tons of funding everywhere.

yeah I've been arguing with the living avatar of a coastal liberal elite about prop 10 for the past few days. Dude literally had to move in the past 6 months because of rent hikes, but he read some articles by economists, so no actually rent control is bad. Sure enough when he linked me to 'the reliable source/papers' that convinced him rent control is universally bad and all economists agree, his source it was a liberation think tank. Naturally he admitted there was a good chance he'd been bamboozled by bonafides for a 'soft science'. Just kidding! He's a professor so he's got to preserve the thin tweed line or some poo poo.

the progressive majority is an illusion, we've just got all those 'socially liberal fiscally conservative,' types who really would be republicans if the party hadn't gone full death-cultist. Having a mostly lovely and non-functioning republican token opposition has also let the baddems utterly gut true progressive and left leaning opposition because they're almost never in danger of losing their control of the state.
hell we've got more than a few actual republicans who failed to win seats as republicans so switched parties, like my city's terrible mayor -who also was able to pass a ballot initiative to get himself a 3rd term

It's interesting to me that the Green Party has about 160 elected officials, about 70 of those are in California, and even there they're all just members of like the school board or a city advisory committee.

California seems like the natural habitat of libertarians who talk about property as if we can just start over without entrenched power systems already in place.

like jerry "governor moonbeam" brown seriously veto'd a law to exempt menstrual products from sales tax because it threw off his pristinely balanced budget that's the sort of lovely power structure we have when blue team has a supermajority in CA. yeah I'm still salty about that, and the fact that the anti-electoralism wing of my chapter and DSA LA kept us from endorsing his opponent/had delays in writing our new endorsement guidelines or giving us any guidance on whether we could push people to vote against him/for Estrada without an endorsement since we were already canvasing in his district for m4a (first in the primary and then in the general) until September. He won by < 8,000 votes. If we'd been out there every month following the primary I think we could've changed that.

I think electoralism is doomed to failure overall but I think this election proved that running on an actual platform gives you a huge chance of winning so our next strategy should be running a DSA member with enough free time in literally every position, one for each party, with roughly the same platform. I dont think we have the manpower to do it everywhere but maybe we could end up owning a whole city or county somewhere. Like nobody really campaigns for Sherrif on my county on anything other than 'I'm a cop, so I should be the cop boss'. Same for DA, etc.

yeah california sucks, fun fact the bay area was the only place that voted for prop 10, it's hard to run against the combined finances of global property investors who can afford to have ads during nfl games and giant billboards. that being said, i heard SF passed prop c which is a good tax for homeless services and when they got a huge donation from some tech dude who definitely Will Run they used it to hire a bunch of homeless people to do phonebanking at 20bux an hour. also the yimby candidate who was running as a supervisor got her rear end kicked but that's more a moral victory than anything

Who in the party is able to reach enough people to make this happen? If I signed up for DSA officially would I know the answer to this?
