But think about it, lovely people were getting through just fine under the current split. Tossing two or three more on the republican side doesn't change it. If anything this does everyone a favor because now we can stop getting false hope that Collins or Murkowski will be a decent human being.

Yes, so judicial appointments and cabinet appointments (you know at least a couple of them are going to be replaced in the next few months) will pretty much glide through the senate with ease. Though I'm with Vas on this, I'd much rather win the house then the senate.

Yeah, we're still waiting to see the overall results of the state races, but it's pointing toward the pendulum swinging back toward the middle in terms of how much each party controls. If Trump continues to suck (he will), Dems may once again control a majority of state legislatures in 2020.

Vasudus posted:The realistic gains are mostly: I quibble with this one because I'm not as rose-colored glasses on the 2020 map as you. Looking at the races coming up in 2020: 3 races with a possibility of a GOP -> DEM flip: AZ, CO, ME. 1 race with a likely DEM -> GOP flip: AL (Doug Jones) 1 race with a highly unlikely flip GOP -> DEM flip: NC So 2020 could very well end up as a net +2 seats for the DEMs. Yes the GOP has more seats up for grabs, but a vast majority of them are in deep red states and essentially untouchable. If 2018 ends up with a 53 / 47 split the GOP has a very good shot of holding onto the Senate at 51 / 49.

So this morning CT called the governorship for Lamont (Good) by 0.5%. Thats a huge relief, and that 0.5% is only 17,000 votes. Late last night it looked like Governor and Attorny general would go to republicans by about 3 points and overnight the final count put both ahead. In other happy news A democrat 20yr ex-navy nuke commander won in VA

Holy I didn't realize that the dem turd won CT. Good for him I guess. My college friend got absolutely crushed by DeLauro (62-38 w/ 82% reporting) but that's 100% to be expected. DeLauro is insanely popular, has a fuckton of money, and CT-03 (New Haven) is solid blue. The only way that seat isn't going to be held by DeLauro is when she retires, or dies; and then it will be held by whomever has (D) next to their name. Sorry bud.
