So with an insanely favorable Senate map and the doom and gloom of Tuesday night, Republicans could end up with a net of just +1 in the Senate?

AZ goes blue, Scott is freaking out because he knows a recount will turn the gov and senate seats in FL blue, the chuds get discouraged and GA and MS gov/senate runoffs both go blue, RBG is put into a 2 year long coma and comes out just in time for the Democrats to take the presidency and the senate in 2020 and for science to develop a way to upload consciousness into machine bodies, which allows RBG to become the first SCOTUS justice to live forever.

After 10 years I've also finally convinced my mother that Republicans are against her. She was a McCain/Bush Republican, I got her to switch her party preference to Independent after convincing her that Romney was a true snake, she didn't like Obama at first. But after a while she respected him. Trump and more pushing got her to go full Democrat and all she can talk about is how she misses Obama and supports most liberal positions now. I think I'm about 75% of the way on finally convincing her on marijuana legalization, shes no longer openly hostile to the idea when we talk about it.

RE: the future senate Yes the senate is fundamentally undemocratic, and yes this currently favours Republicans since they're have the support of empty land, but I don't think their advantage is so strong that you can expect the senate to be lost, short or long term. If you take the baseline from the last two presidential elections as what parties "ought" to win, Clinton won 20 states and Romney won 24, which would make it 48R-40D with 12 swing seats, which would make the "expected" senate composition 54R-46D. That's a solid R advantage, but not an insurmountable one. On the margins, of the Romney states Trump won 4 by less than 10% (TX, NC, GA, AZ). Similarly, Obama won 5 Clinton states by less than 10%(VA, CO, NH, NV, MN). All those states except maybe MN are trending Dem, though, and of the 6 swing states MI(2D), WI(1D1R), PA(1D1R) are much closer to D than R (for now at least), FL(1D?1R) is in the middle and OH(1D1R), IA(2R) are more R than D. Manchin, Tester and Jones are the only red state Dems left (plus Sinema if she gets in). Jones is lost but the others don't come up until 2024. On the flip side Collins and Gardner are the blue state Republicans and are both up in 2020. The Republican advantage is clear, but it's small enough that, when you add in the fact that the senate is not a presidential race and the elections are staggered it's definitely winnable not just in 2020 with its specific Senate map but in general, especially if Dems can win back WI and PA and the four soft republican states plus FL become more winnable.
