this completely fits the narrative that constant negative press coverage is already turning Trump against Whitaker, imo this is exactly the kind of thing he's repeatedly said about people he ends up firing

I dunno if that's something that can be blocked but I believe that it's required to be reported to congress if he stops the special counsel's office from doing anything. That gives the house the chance to question him as to whether there was any illicit intent and potentially opens him to criminal liability.

A few months ago, Trump went to Congress and taunted/threatened Republicans by asking where Mark Sanford was. Trump campaigned against Mark Sanford so the Trumpist successfully primaried him, who went on to lose. So I hope the next time Trump goes to the House, a Democrat asks "where's Katie Arrington?" Very petty, but gently caress it.

Maybe someone more left or right would have done better, I don't know, maybe a full on DSA candidate would have won (was there one? I don't remember), but it's pretty silly to look at that and all the success in down-ballot races and say, well, he hosed up, what an rear end in a top hat. If he did better than the “much more centrist” candidate, why do you hedge that by suggesting someone more right could have also done better? Why not just take this as evidence that “more left” works and build from there?

Blues brothers came out 16 years after the civil rights act, People back then were absolutely that racist, if anything what has changed is that now people holding what were mainstream conservative opinions now have to self label as nazi because the opinions are now viewed as so extreme. Like again, I'm not saying conservatives "became good" or are progressive now, but society has changed a ton in the last century and mainstream republican opinions on a bunch of social issues are like, extremely bland and middle of the road if you time traveled them back 50 years or so. Progressives won a lot of social issues, conservatives lost ground on a bunch of stuff, and that being the new norm means kids born today are gonna see that as more normal than their grandparents did. Even the conservative kids.

If those results hold, then Dems will have overperformed in the House and basically hit what was expected (although on the lower end of the expected range because of Florida) in the Senate. That's much better than things were looking 24 hours ago.
