i dont know that anyone's released general estimates yet and beyond that it's extremely hard to say.

there were the 53,000 registrations that kemp's office just sat on and didn't approve, and there was a huge push to try to tell those people (and anyone else who had their registration inexplicably revoked) to go to the polls anyway and cast a provisional ballot. not all of those would have been in gwinnett and dekalb, and how many of those people actually did so, or were even allowed to, is completely up in the air.

but regardless of the numbers, Kemp's office desperately wants to cut those two counties off, especially Dekalb. it'll be a positive for Abrams.

we just dont know if it'll be enough.

the Democrats were the incumbent party in power as well so not sure what rationale there could have been to have Bush/Cheney on the top of the ballot.

don't know if it's true now or then in Florida, but some states mandate a coin flip or drawing lots, others like Wisconsin give it to whoever got the most votes the preivous time (so Obama had the most votes in 2008, so Dems were listed first in 2010, after 2010 reps were listed first in 2012, Obama won again in 2012 so Dems were listed first in 2014 etc.)

for Minnesota partisan races, you get put higher on the ballot the more unpopular your party was last time. for non-partisan races, they do.... whatever this scrambley thing is :pwn:

quote:

8220.0825 CANDIDATE ROTATION ALGORITHM.
Subpart 1. Base rotation.

The secretary of state shall determine the base rotation of candidates' names for partisan offices voted on at the state primary election. The county auditor shall determine the base rotation of candidates' names for all other offices for which rotation is required. The county auditor may delegate the authority to determine the base rotation of candidates' names for municipal and school district offices to the municipal and school district clerks, respectively. The base rotation must be determined by assigning the initial order of the candidates' names by lot.

Subp. 2. Base number of registered voters.

For purposes of the rotation algorithm, the county auditor shall determine the number of registered voters in each precinct as of 8:00 a.m. on May 1 of the election year.

Subp. 3. Algorithm.

The algorithm in items A to F must be used to determine the rotation sequence for each race for which rotation is required.

A. Determine the base rotation.

B. Determine which precincts belong to the race being rotated.

C. Arrange the precincts in order of the number of registered voters, from largest number to smallest.

D. Calculate the number of rotations needed by determining the number of candidates for the office.

E. Starting with the largest precinct, assign a precinct to each rotation. If there are more candidates than precincts, stop after the last precinct has been assigned and go on to item F. If there are more precincts than candidates, keep a running subtotal of the total registered voters assigned to each rotation. After each rotation has been assigned one precinct, assign the next largest precinct to the rotation with the lowest subtotal. Continue assigning the next largest precinct to the rotation with the lowest subtotal until all precincts for that race have been assigned.

F. Print a report by race showing rotation subtotals.

look how cleanly that's laid out, everything is neat and labeled and has headers, just fill in the rectangle with a pen. i don't see how anyone could gently caress this one up.

oregon's ballot pretty much looks like that with the added bonus of it being mailed directly to your home and you having the choice of sticking a stamp on it and mailing it back or simply dropping it at any of the hundreds of drop boxes across the state including every public library at your convenience

I just found out a few weeks ago that in some states positions like law enforcement and judges are explicitly partisan on the ballot. That broke my brain for a little bit.

Also apparently post office procedure is to deliver ballots w/o stamps, but I don't have a source on that unfortunately.

i def wouldn't just trust that it'll get where it's going but i can definitely see it being way cheaper for the post office to just take a big box of ballots over to a ballot drop once a day than try and return to sender all of the unstamped ballots that people will drop thinking no postage is necessary, since it really shouldnt be anyway

I think refusing delivery of ballots without stamps was ruled a poll tax. Maybe that was just in Washington and not Oregon though?
