Kid, don't threaten me. There are worse things than death, and uh, I can do all of them.
For post-mission posters I usually just click randomize once or twice to see if I get a good one. Sometimes you get a really good one

Been really impressed with WOTC so far. The improved mission variety with sitrep and new designs, and The Lost are good additions

Started a new campaign to play with some more mods, such as ABA, augmentation (alot of my guys are starting to become pretty robotic, thanks Hunter), psionic overhaul and more, including my own personal adjustment to Classic difficulty, which is mostly incorporating many of the campaign changes from Impossible (slower research, excavation, more expensive expansion, and so on) in addition to delaying many things a bit to make things a bit less hectic (I had the Chosen set to not appear until a month into the game for instance).

Anyway it's worked out pretty well, what I wanted to say was that I just did the Psionic Gateway mission and it turned into a pretty tense battle, with a Chrysalid Queen, the Gatekeeper and the Warlock all standing around the gate and having to be fought simultaneously. Things get pretty hectic when you have to deal with a constantly multiplying swarm of Chrysalids closing in on you, a Gatekeeper doing its thing and that rear end in a top hat of a Warlock actually being quite a nuissance by staying in the back by the portal and using his psionics to daze and disorient my guys (not to mention summoning even more Chrysalids since he's a Beastmaster). Things even looked like they were going completely south for a while when he mindcontrolled one of my soldiers while two others were dazed, but I got lucky and managed to live through it.

The whole squad is tired for about 10 days now, courtesy of Mr. Warlock being Brutal.

Just had the silliest thing happen on a covert ops ambush mission. I had my ranger (Bladestorm, and close combat specialist) on it with what I thought was normal loadout (Shotgun + sword, etc). But I guess the game decided I had brought an autopistol instead, even though the soldier still had the sword strapped on her back. So I couldn't use any melee skills, but bladestorm was triggering on everything at any range within sight. Packs of lost would spawn and just get instantly mowed down with autopistol, while anything that actually ran in to 4 hexes or less range got shotgunned to the face.

kill zone but omnidirectional instead of a narrow cone and it's passive instead of a 5 turn cooldown

So, Close Combat Specialist but with a pistol.

EDIT: Well, depending on what kinda range we're talking about

Faceoff but on reaction.
Return Fire but on movement.
Run and Gun but with a pistol and on reaction and not moving.
Volatile Mix but without grenades or bonus to grenades and with a pistol but like bladestorm.

Christ, I'm either rusty as hell, bad, or Firaxis made Commander difficulty a lot harder than it used to be. My first mission is a 7 turn hack the station mission with four pods, two sectoids, and a set of reinforcements. I don't remember it being this ruthless.

I uh, just rolled my templar's last special ability. The three he got were shadow step, reaper, and blade storm.

He has a lot fewer buttons than most templars, but the one button he does have is labeled 'kill'

Grimy's Loot Mod adds a Legendary mod to templar gauntlets that is Reaper, but it increases damage with every kill. If you take enough them to set them up with some easy kills, then especially if you have the arc wave ability for the AoE, you can have a single templar clear an entire map of ABA enemies.

I loving love this silly game, god drat. Doing a retaliation mission and run in to a pack of 5 Boas (the beefier melee only Viper variant from ABA or one of the other mods). 1 of them panicked at my ranger in the Serpent suit, while the others used tongue grapple 4 times in a row- Each one yanked the ranged to itself and got bladestormed before the next one did the exact same thing. I wish I had a recording of it because it's honestly the funniest thing I've seen in days of playing this.

Bought this game on sale but just now started playing it. God drat these loading times when restoring a save. I have a feeling taking 30 minutes to clear out space on the SSD will pay off in a couple of days.

Edit: Also, my base was forced down by a UFO and GOOD GOD that's a lot of Advent.

Rend The Lost alongside the Between The Eyes Faction thingy is ludicrous and overpowered but also kind of not because it's just a poo poo load of zombies.

Rend the Lost breaks the Templar. Not only do you get instant max focus, you get one free move per kill, so a high level Templar is basically a murder pinball

Owl Inspector

I did a surgical sitrep late in my first WOTC game and managed it without any wounds, but a lot of it had to do with lucky enemy spacing, double agent giving me a friend and already having all the gear in the game. I was pretty shocked that it wasn’t actually easier in any way and the game just expects you to do a mission as hard as any other but with half the people. Anytime the sitreps list “ADVENT forces have reduced presence in this area” it never seems to do anything.

I also had a “sgts or lower” guerilla op option show up when I had 3 people left on my entire roster who could even go on that.

Nothing in WOTC seems meant to be balanced. Sometimes you just get a mission no harder than any other except you can get 100 free supplies from civilians on the map, other times it gives you a mission twice as hard with no extra payout to compensate.

Anyone else playing/played with Mushashi's RPG overhaul + Grimy's loot mod? I've been doing that recently and while it's fun, there seem to be a lot of issues/bugs with items and the modifiers from Grimy's. Not sure if anyones managed to fix it by hand or not, or even run into the same issue (maybe I installed it bad?).

So I got distracted from this halfway through back at laucnh, and at some point I grabbed the expansion in a Steam Sale but never actually played it. Is Long War still sorta terrible for this? Is Vanilla the way to go, or are there any specific mods that are must haves? I don't particularly care about having a "pure" experience, persay, as long as the main storyline and poo poo doesn't get all messed up or whatever. Really enjoyed LW1 (on the sped up wuss mode because holy poo poo gently caress doing 400 missions to finish the campaign) with the exception of the ridiculous power creep with Sectopods with 40 health bars and whatnot.
