It is difficult to win an argument that a contract is unconscionable in general, and probably impossible when both sides are sophisticated parties (mega corporation and a state) and both sides were assuredly representing by numerous attorneys

He's not gonna indict anyone until his case is airtight. Remember, the goal is to make it so hopeless for the criminals that they flip.

If they don't flip, the case goes to trial, where there is a chance that they get acquitted. Which would be devastating.

Bizzarely enough, he's not even wrong about this (that it potentially benefits Trump, I mean - he's wrong about the rest). It gives Trump an excuse for not getting any of his legislative agenda through, which will probably help him a little in 2020.

gently caress Bill Mitchell; he doesn't get to play the "I was the puppetmaster all along; I meant to get my rear end kicked! Are you owned yet, libs?!" game. Assuming that Democrats do what they are promising--between the investigations and the (albeit ill-fated) progressive legislation--Democrats will keep the House in 2020 unless Hillary is the loving candidate again.

I'm so tired of the right (and to some extent the left) pretending that every piece of news will somehow benefit Donald Trump. He isn't invincible, politically or otherwise. We just proved that last week, didn't we? I get that 2016 gave us all horrendous PTSD, but we just got through a pretty good 2018 midterm cycle. Maybe it's time to come out from behind the bushes.

I mean, I get the sentiment, and he's being a petulant little brat and just playing puppet-master. That said, losing the house helps him explain "Where is the wall?" and "Where is the repeal and replace" which, while not huge, are still a useful talking point under the assumption they never would have materialized even had they held the house. I'm not giving Michell credit. I'm just wryly pointing out that I don't think he's wrong about that particular point.

Now, if Democrats somehow give him a wall or a repeal/replace, I will gladly eat crow.

Unless they think bigotry and gently caress the Dems/Libs is that much of a winning hand (which this election cycle hardly convinced me of) I'm not seeing how this argument tracks in particular. Maybe it's because there's been little elaboration but from what I can see the Republicans literally have no loving policy or goals right now to compare themselves to the Democrats on, just bullshit and scare tactics that primarily work on their established base. Meanwhile the Democratic party is coming into congress with stated agenda's that aren't blatantly self serving on their face that might actually do the public some good like attempts to reinvigorate the Voting Rights Act and Gun Control. What does the GOP run on assuming the Democratic party doesn't inexplicably rat gently caress the country which I don't see happening at all? Trying to take away people's health care again? Building bigger border walls? More tax cuts that are transparently for the top 1%?

The caravan story is bullshit and they already gave that one up so like....I mean we'll check back in 2 years but Trump is still decisively unpopular so it's all going to come down to how Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and probably Florida chose to vote in 2020 more than anything to do with party record I think.

Yeah, sure, good point. Now we just have to get Republicans to realize that, therefore, the most helpful thing for him in 2020 would be to pass the opposite of his agenda.

Plus, Mueller's pretty popular, with bipartisan appeal. Trump could ride those coattails by helping out with his investigation.

I think you're really onto something here.

Yes Bill Mitchell is a moron and his arguments make no sense obviously, he was predicting a 100% chance of Republican gains in the House the day of the election, now he's just polishing a turd.

I brought him up because people were saying "wait what's with the people who voted Republican and think it's good Democrats took the House" and my suspicion is that we're likely seeing sour grapes: true believers who have convinced themselves that Dems winning the House is good for Trump because everything that happens is good for Trump.

I guess there might also be some NeverTrump Republicans in there who voted for their NeverTrump congressman while still being glad that Democrats won overall.

Ironically, I actually do believe that the Democrats taking the House could be good for Trump. If he were to go to Pelosi for a massive $3T infrastructure bill with enough goodies to peel off rural Republican senators, his approval ratings would go through the roof. Imagine if he went to her to fix Obamacare or pass Medicare For All. Or a minimum wage increase like we saw pass in Arkansas and Missouri.

None of that will happen because he's nothing but a grifter and a con man, but jesus if he actually passed popular progressive policy while saying the racist poo poo the white voter craves he'd probably lock the Democrats out of power for 100 years.
