WE ARE SMART
Those Lepin sets look really high-quality, as far as Lego knockoffs go. What I really like, though, is how their logo is clearly styled after the Lego logo to trick unsuspecting people into buying it, but the Chinese text really stands out and you'd think that'd immediately tip anyone off that they're fake.

Actually, maybe that's their strategy, a product that looks like Lego but a logo that very obviously isn't, signalling "hey, we're almost as good as Lego but we're way cheaper, your kids won't know the difference!"

I swear Lepin started up once Lego started to send their stuff to be manufactured in China.
Lepin makes a bunch of the old Star Wars Lego sets for a fraction of the cost.

A lot of folks in the Lego thread buy lepin versions of extremely rare, expensive out of production sets off alibaba and such because they are indeed very high quality and can be had for a comparative pittance to the real deal. Only problems people have are the minifigs suck. The main difference is the lego name on each stud has been filed off.

I think he can hear you, Ray.
Yeah Lepin collections are actually pretty popular for people who don't want to pay insane Lego prices. Biggest issues are some of the detail on the figures is not as well defined, and that the colour might not be quite as bold, but other than that they're pretty well-received. I think only someone who is super invested in Lego will really be able to tell the difference.

Lego has been trying to get Lepin shut down for a while now and while they've not succeeded, I believe that a new rule is that listings on Aliexpress et al can't show pictures of the items, but they can still sell them.

So long as it survives shipping since they usually ship it the standard garbage way direct from china, they're apparently pretty good at actually including all the pieces/often having more pieces than they should.

I do want to get one of the larger sets eventually and just encase it in glue once it's assembled, though. Both to keep it together forever, and also to keep it together forever(because I never want the lepin pieces getting mixed in with actual lego)

Sad Optimus is actually Hoist, an oversized and likely extra-floppy version.

And that's a surprisingly competent Strongarm knockoff, I mean it's way off from the actual packaging if you put them side by side but they stole enough components that if you didn't know better you could actually think it's a real Hasbro release.

I saw this review of this absurd knockoff a while back and bought it for 60 bucks. It's great. Also comes with an extra gigantic gun that the toy cannot hold but is full-blown Mechtech(weapons that "transform" into a bigger/long-barreled form) for a kid to hold.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKMWufxFhT8&hd=1

basically, they took the Voyager-class Megatron(7-8 inches) from the Dark of the Moon toyline, and decided, for whatever reason, instead of just making an oversized version, they scaled him up nearly THREE TIMES THE SIZE and managed to maintain the quality and joint strength(though the detail is still the same as the original, just blown up, so it can look a bit simplistic).

it towers over nearly every other transformer short of metroplex/fortress maximus/trypticon

you can have one of your very own, they're still available as of now(at a slightly increased price since original release), though as with most knockoffs production can halt at any time. Helps that it's an actually great figure they knocked off.

Here’s an old one. Short Subject aka Mickey Mouse in Vietnam was a Vietnam War protest film created by Lee Savage (father of Adam Savage) and Milton Glaser (creator of “I  NY”) in 1968. It is an unlicensed and unauthorized Mickey Mouse cartoon which Savage and Glaser would show to their friends. You know those “gritty realistic mario with a gun” type shorts that were all the rage on Newgrounds like 15 years ago? This is kinda like that, but it actually has meaning and was made back when a project like this was a huge undertaking.

Until recently the only copies of the short available were in the hands of organizations which would only rent it out for screening, so only descriptions and screenshots were available online. Then five years ago some rando managed to find a (partial, soundless) version in a box of scrap film that was set to be thrown out. Then, earlier this year, someone else managed to upload a complete version with the original soundtrack. Check it out below.
