So simply put, it wouldn't be a good idea to just abandon any allies we have in the Great War.

That's a nice idea, and it's definitely one of the socialists' ideals, but the Khedive has been in power for way too long for him to just surrender it now. If the khedive is going to be toppled, then it can only be through war, which the socialists definitely aren't prepared for.

Nah I paid pretty good attention to how we finally have railroads more modern than the 1860's and rapidly progressed to being only about 35 years behind the rest of the world instead of 80 in terms of social and political development.

Reform-wise, the Socialists have a demonstrable record of doing more in 10 years while under active assault than the Liberals managed to do in 30 with a mostly united government. They gladly sold out any stated principles in exchange for botes and colonial loot over and over, I doubt that's suddenly going to change.
