The problem is Macron is so bad and unpopular it's concerning the Nazi might win in the next iteration of pick the worst between a centrist and a Nazi. If centrists are going to be the self appointed dam against far right ideology they have to at least care about elections and their own favorability.

I think at the point those people were making those tweets, Americans knew very little of Macron's policy positions and were just joyous that France had soundly rejected its Trump in the ballot box.

What's the alternative then? If your two options are vote for a centrist and vote for a Nazi, what do you do? Vote for the Nazi as a protest vote? Don't vote at all? I'd love if there was a better option available much like I'd love if there had been a better candidate than Hillary for 2016. But there wasn't, so you hold your nose and vote otherwise you get actual concentration camps and ICE raiding peoples workplaces on the orders of a corporation.

Up ta somethin'

Sure kids were being abused and the company running the "shelters" wasn't meeting oversight guidelines, but have you considered that closing them might cause job losses at the local school district which was using the kids to boost the size of their budget?!?

quote:

Southwest Key Programs in Arizona, which operates shelters for undocumented immigrant children, has had one of its shelters closed by the federal government following allegations of physical abuse by staff members. And a second shelter will close as part of a legal settlement with the state of Arizona after Southwest Key missed an oversight deadline. The closing of the shelters has unintended financial consequences for a small school district. The Maricopa County Regional School District says it will have a $1.9 million dollar budget reduction and teacher layoffs due to the loss of up to about 430 students at Southwest Key Programs.

Goddamn Marketplace is trash. Let's ignore the bullshit per-student funding method that is causing the actual budget crunch, completely leave out any discussion of what is actually best for the kids, and instead treat refugee kids as little more than money bags

It doesn't matter since Trump would win regardless, just like how Macron will probably lose. Quibling over individual votes is dumb since it's large political movements that win elections. Macron probably isn't going to be able to coast on "is not a Nazi" a second time after going to war with the workers of France.

trump had a lot more going for him than bloomberg. he's willing to insult everyone and point out that the republicans he was running against were fuckups and failures, he was already famous from the apprentice, he never backpedals or admits guilt, he's entertaining to watch during debates, and most importantly he connected with the republican base by saying what they wanted to hear (racism, anti elitism).

bloomberg....wants compromise and bipartisanship, and is rich. he wants to run as a centrist, so he's pretty much just going to be advocating for the status quo as opposed to candidates who are proposing new projects and reforms, which are currently far more popular (witness every dem running on medicare for all). his platform is to stomp the brakes. he has no base and he's not going to be able to get one during the primaries.

presuming he runs at all, of course.
