Why else would you bring him up in this unrelated conversation unless you were trying to make some sort of point? Johnny Aztec posted:But really, what do you want me to do about this problem. Is there a phone number I can call? One thing you can do - next time something racially insensitive comes up, don't immediately devil's advocate for it. Maybe there's a reason that this group is upset by it. And since you admitted you only know one person from that group, maybe you're not really familiar enough with their struggles to official decree a joke "not lovely".

Seriously, maybe you should take a short break. you're like mixing people up. Haven't "devil's advocated" for anything. I mean, if you want to try and fit a " Hey, here is a hosed up experience I had" anecdote into your larger narrative, then go ahead, but there is no point. There is no " hidden agenda". I feel like Johnny Aztec provided a valuable contribution in ending the derail by providing a take so bizarrely offensive that both sides united in mutual disgust.

I'll say again, because it's important, and idc if it's continuing a derail: the ad isn't bad because it jokes about smallpox. That's ridiculously missing the point. The ad is bad because it jokes about a complex relationship that is still loving Natives over today, and joking about this over stupid poo poo encourages people to not take it seriously. Like I said before, we already spend a great deal of time being joke fodder or treated like we're invisible, and things like some of the events around the Dakota Pipeline show that the government is still perfectly happy to treat us as lessers when they feel like it. Mainstream Americans are completely out of touch with our existence and punching down with jokes doesn't help at all. Some of the poo poo that gets said and implied on this site about Natives would never, ever fly if you said it about other minority groups (Johnny Aztec's comment is a good example of that) and it's frustrating to say the least.

Teriyaki Hairpiece posted:Black Friday sales are starting today, Wednesday. Is that a dumb marketing move? A dumb marketing move is the fact that about 3 or 4 years ago someone decided that Black Friday should happen in the UK, despite the fact that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. There's no other holiday or pretence for it - it's just a random day in November where retailers discount their poo poo. To date the discounts have never been enough to tempt me into buying anything in November when I could just pay an extra £20 or so and have something any time I want.

A question: Are the Black Friday sales in America just a big sale, or are they done for a reason? Coz I remember my mum working the Myer Stocktake Sale, (which was also a huge monster sale with big discounts) when I was young. And that sale, which as far as I know is still happening annually, existed for a reason, which coincidentally was in the name. It was done so the store could do a Stocktake, and clear out all the poo poo that wasn't selling to make room for new stock.

Eventually, marketers figured out how to snowball this Also, I don't have a source but I'd hazard a guess that with more and more folks just buying gifts online, brick & mortars are in a panic to get people into stores. It's definitely way more hyped up than it was when I was a kid and no one had internet shopping. For me personally, this has turned into a dumb marketing move because I won't go anywhere near a mall tomorrow. Heck, I'll even take side streets instead of the main drag, just because the traffic gets insane. Hell, I just prefer to not even leave my house.

I'd always heard Black Friday is the last payday before Christmas so the most likely time people are about to go Christmas shopping. Just lol if you're not buying mints for your family from the gas station on Christmas Eve though.

Most paydays are on the 1rst and fifteenth, or every two weeks, or on the 1rst of a month if you're monthly (maybe a few days later if payroll processing takes up time). Black Friday is between the 23rd and 29th of November, depending on the year.
