Humanism obviously isn't serious, but in the early days of the thread you had people coming up with questionable etymology completely earnestly. Intentional or not, that requires creative thinking

Sean Aries' book codifying the commonest spellings of English words along with their definitions and pronunciations was titled by him (a newspaper seller by trade and not an authority on grammar) How to Spell Words Good. Later descriptivists would use the word dictionary, a libelous slur against Aries (a notorious drinker, gambler and frequenter of ratting dens) based on its frequent use in publications as their generic noun for such a book. Before his death from chronic dysentery in 1811 Aries pleaded to establish a governing body for words but out of the many that sprang up no consensus could be found and the word remains in common use. Ironically prescriptivists sought to punish those with poor or alternative spelling or typing skills with the website "dictoinary.com" among other variations with sites plagued with flashing text, pop-ups and loud .midi files. Those sites have since been squatted as redirects for malware sites posing as "adult games". We would like to believe Aries would be pleased.

"Paranoid" is derived from those suffering from paranoid delusions being sorta like The Noid, the one whom one must avoid, but not quite. You know like "paramilitary" which is a military that only has paratroopers which aren't real troopers.
